Fishy! I see you online there. Can't type in guild chat. I think I broke something.

Worked fine earlier today. I tried standing down and re-representing (err...), but no luck.

I chase butterflies in this game so much more than skyrim.

I think it's because of how easy gathering and selling is. And cooking! Oh god, cooking.

IKR? I'm not sure why I agonized over which class for so long, given it doesn't really matter, since I spend most of my time beside the cauldron and everything else I do in this game is to support my cooking habit. I'm not even getting zone completions because I'm too busy hopping around to get the hearts that sell ingredients in bulk. Also I won't be able to afford my highest training manual when I hit 60, because I spend all my money on cooking too. Chili peppers, why must you be so cruel?

It's going to get tough at about level 55, though, because I won't be able to spend all my money on cooking anymore when I have to save for the level 60 racial armor which features argyle tights.

The actual fighting in this game is like the fourth or fifth thing down the list of things that matter.

I love crafting, but it's really, really not worth it. I used to buy loads of salvaging kits and got on a SALVAGE ERRTHANG!! spree once in a while to fund my crafting, but then I realized I could sell the stuff at the nearest vendor instead and just buy the items off the Trading Post. Crafting cost me money (because sometimes you need 40 tiny scales and you only have 11 and can't be ***** farming a million drakes for the last 29) while I'm now turning a profit just vendoring crap.

Should probably sell stuff at the Post, but I'm not sure how it works and I'm seeing 1000+ available for most items, so I don't know if it's even worth it.

Yeah, crafting is largely pretty fail. Its best function seems to be making yourself rares/exotics and hoping the mystic forge blesses you with a precursor or other pricey item, but that's just playing the lotto you could do buying cheapish **** from the AH, anyway. And really, crafting's state wouldn't bother me so much if you actually could farm specific materials more reliably, but we can thank RMT/botters for ruining that for normal people.

The only crafting I'm doing anymore is cooking, which is actually fun. I tried some of the others and hated them. I suppose at 80 I'll want to pursue them again to get useful items, but that's a problem for when I have the time and gold to care.

I also sell all the non-food mats and I love how with the ordering system you can sell things immediately and walk away with your money rather than post stuff and wait for people to buy it.

I tried WvW for the first time yesterday though and I have to say it turned me off enough for GW2 to lose some of it shine for me, since that's one of the few big things there is to do at 80. Endless running around a gigantic map that's way too big for the extremely low number of people playing (and this was a weekend!). They put icons on your map to show where the fights are but that's not much use when the running around takes so frustratingly long that the fight is over by the time you get there. Then on the very infrequent occasion I would get to a fight, I'd get two-shot by a warrior before I could even hit any of my buttons. I'd seriously rather do Warsong Gulch than this nonsense. Maybe it gets more fun... some day, somehow? I imagine they designed this big empty place with gigantic battles in mind, over-assuming how many people would be playing their game. But it still might improve if I knew what I was doing more.

Edit: It also appears that the "scaling" to level 80 in WvW applies to your character's base stats only, not to your armor or weapons. Can anyone confirm? If that's the case, combined with my traits at level 45, the two shotting makes a lot of sense and I don't feel as bad. :)

I think the vast emptiness of WvW was inspired by the old Alterac Valley. The difference being that even old school AV wasn't this big and old school AV had groups of people fighting from home to mid to enemy base. My experience with WvW so far has been running to one corner of the gigantic map where people are fighting, only to realize they've long since died and respawned elsewhere. Rinse, repeat.

Not that it matters, because large scale battles are still unplayable. Was running around Kessex Hills last week(end?) when that chain letter event was happening and everything started lagging out. People were running from zone to zone to complete the event, apparently, but there were so many of them that they completely broke every zone they entered.

Warhammer Online suffered from the same issue: A game designed around large scale PvP, but without the hardware and optimization to handle it. I loved that game, but the moment you got into a big PvP battle, the game was reduced to a slideshow.

The only problem I have in WvW is player culling. I never really go run around solo. Groups of 5 or so can be very effective, assaulting supply camps and pack doylaks. The travel time is obviously intentional, to make buildings closer to your spawn point easier to hold and those far away more difficult to get reinforcements to. It can be pretty fun when there's a large group of players in there.

It seems that a not insignificant portion of the WvW community has left CD. Now, there's typically one or two full zones during peak times during the week, and the other two or three will be fairly low. I'll usually just queue for one of the full zones if I feel like playing, though getting together a group of 5-10 to go raid the more empty maps would likely be easy and fun.

Actually being level 80 rather than just having your level raised does give you a fairly big advantage*. If your level is raised, only your base sets are improved, but if you're level 80, you'll typically already have gear and of course, more trait points.

I believe there are lv80 armor/weapon vendors that sell fairly cheap gear if you want to make sure you have at least that much.

When I was participating in WvW, I found using some type of ranged weapon and traveling in groups increased survivability tenfold.

*The advantage is huge if it's 1v1, but since the content is made for groups, this factor is somewhat minimized, though still noticeable.

So here's my thoughts on the event and new content, since feedback's more useful than *********

The good:
--Everything in the Ancient Karka event that didn't involve fighting a bajillion karka. I particularly liked using the flame vents to push forward while dealing with reasonable spawns of karka, it actually had progress. The Crocomire death scene was cute as well.
--Fractals in general. Clever dungeons, good variety.
--Extra note, cat golems. :3
--The donation was nifty, and it would be nice to have that in some form later. I could walk out with a bag full of junk and turn it into a yellow weapon. Admittedly it was better to vendor the junk and buy 60c armor to donate, but the idea still stands. That would be an argument against making something massively powerful easy to get should a similar method be implemented later, though. Since using those 60c items for tokens gave 1g keys, 17s rares and 4.5g epics which was on par with other methods, I'm guessing ANet thought about this.

The bad:
--Lag in the first event. Today's had issues but that seemed to be cleared up.
--Rendering players before enemies. The bomb-setting was particularly bad because there was no room to dodge the doom-rolling, and people would push too far into a bajillion more invisible karka. Then we retreat and hit respawned champion at the entrance.
--Kill-counters that went past "long" and "unending" into "cook a meal while you gain an inch." Ancient Karka's were infamous, and Bomb-laying often had 4-5 veteran karka rolling over us. Scale health or scale numbers, but scaling both is very annoying.
--Kill credit. Not sure how it was being calculated but I probably got credit for less than half the karka I killed. Better visibility/rendering priority for lootable corpses would also be good.
--Getting people into the same fractal. Can't have any party members on a different overflow server. Can't being anyone new in if somebody leaves. If it dies it dies.
--Fractal difficulty levels. This may or may not turn out to be a big deal, but the guys being ******** about it are the most visible part. I'm not sure how to fix this one, but for those of us with altitis it means that when deciding who we bring we also need to remember every alt's fractal level. When guildies come back to check the dungeon out it would be nice to start on level 3-4 rather than everyone else needing to ratchet down to 1. Maybe allow access to fractals based on the party average?

Ranger Ding!

Bought him his last skill book and now I can start (maybe) figuring out some ranger builds. I was really liking the damage from 20/20 in pow/prec lines, and the traits were nice for how I play him. Of course I forgot what traits I was using but I'll figure that out heh.

I just realized I haven't played any video game in a month. At least not any real ones. CivCity Rome doesn't count. I still think GW2 is a good game, but I need more story than it provides. I was fairly well entertained with my mesmer when personal story quests occurred every 2 levels. Now that it's every 5+... it's a lot harder to keep myself entertained. I suppose it'd be easy enough to try another character, but I feel kinda meh about that. The hearts are a neat system, but they don't have enough of a story for me.

I got Kingdoms of Amalur last night, and I'm going to see how that works out. I think I'm broken when it comes to MMO's.

The Order of Whispers actually revived my love of the personal story. I didn't think much of the chapter before that where I had to save the queen before Logan peed his pants and cried. I agree the hearts don't have enough of a story feel to them and I think the zones suffer for it. I keep waiting for something like WoW's Duskwood or EPL, where there's a cohesive thematic feel to the entire area and multiple compelling stories around, but from what I've heard from people who've gone farther an I have, that kind of thing doesn't exist here. It makes me sad because I really love the world, art style, etc. and would welcome an opportunity to get more immersed in-game.

Especially since my cooking is nearly maxed. Don't know what I'll transfer my obsession to after that. Smiley: lol

Yes, some of the personal stories seem too erratic. When I was leveling my necro (and the same with the ranger), it's like your stories are just all flavor, with no real story arch other then getting to know a few side characters. I do like that it's optional, and you can just do them later at your leisure really since they have no impact (other then maybe running Arah at 80 to get your 80 backslot item).
But later in levels, around 50 or 60, I saw the stories actually having more of a steady connection to each other.

I don't know if you are interested in getting a legendary anyday, but if that interests you, you may want to see what crafters you need for the other gift... if that's not something you want then I really like Artificing as my 2nd favorite craft. Potions stack with food buffs, so the xp buff is nice.

Thanks, I have been curious about artificing since I always like making potions. I'll probably look into some of the other professions once my cash flow is better - I spend so much on cooking I doubt I'll even be able to afford my level 60 training manual when the time comes. Smiley: lol

Luckily I'm in a phase where I'm playing solo - my guild is mainly occupied with another game at the moment - so I can play around, spend all my money on cooking and pretty clothes, and generally be as stupid as I want, and it won't hurt anyone but myself. Smiley: wink Solo PVE in most games seems to be very forgiving and this game doesn't seem to be an exception. I barely even run into events anymore since the world seems to be a bit sparsely populated, so I'm rarely doing any group activities at all, and I've never run a dungeon.

So last night I got one of those "Please authorize this new login" emails because someone was trying to access my account from China. That email authentication thing is great, but the whole thing is curious because it means someone had my GW2 password even though:

1. Neither Norton 360 (yes, I know you hate Norton) nor Malwarebytes found anything questionable on my PC.
2. I check that little Save Password box, so a keylogger, which I understand is the most common way of getting people's passwords locally, wouldn't do any good anyway.
3. My password was not GW2PASSWORDLOLZ.
4. It was a password that I tend to use for all MMO's, but GW2 is the only one I've had active for quite some time.
5. I do not use that password anyplace else, including internet forums, email accounts, etc.
6. I am not going to finally reveal 18 posts down-thread that, well yeah, I did go to that one site and buy gold and give them my account information, but I'm sure it wasn't them because they seemed really nice, you guys.
7. I am not going to finally reveal 18 posts down-thread that, well yeah, I did give my password to my cousin's girlfriend but I'm sure it wasn't her because she seems really sweet, you guys.
8. Nobody has my password. Not even my husband. Because what good would it do him? He knows all my characters in every MMO are always broke.

So the million dollar question is, how did they get my password?

Meanwhile I feel so violated. And I'm kind of worried that Norton and Malwarebytes are both wrong and someone is about to get into my bank account. Smiley: glare
