Man, altitis. Got an 80 ranger, a 55 elementalist, a 55 engineer, a 16-ish fighter, a lv.3 rogue, and now I feel like I wanna get some character slots to make a guardian and mesmer.

I wish there was an "allow hair and helm" option. I've made Carmen Sandiego but she can't have the hat and the hair at the same time.

Me too! Only my characters are much lower leveled lol. I'm really liking my Mesmer though! I'm getting a bit tired of all the snow in the Norn areas, but I love the play style of the Mesmer. I start out with staff to lure the mobs in and summon a clone and warlock phantasm, then I switch to double swords and cut the **** out of them bastards! I kill stuff so fast! And I'm a lot more durable having gone into the Chaos tree first, which gives you perks to toughness. Once I get 10 points in I think I'm going to switch to the one that gives you perks to power.

Oh, and are you guys cool with unlocking the guild weaponsmith next? Once we get the third tier of whichever thing we need to get that...

Yeah, when I read your post, I figured I'd get it started since it was like a 72 hour build time.

I'm buying WvW upgrades, but only after buying drinks to cover the influence cost.

Wanted to not buy the game, but then I learned three things:

1. The Norn are giant viking-like people and the area has the Skyrim thing going for it.
2. As a Norn, your backstory can contain the tale of you passing out drunk at a moot.
3. The Norn dance like Carlton from Fresh Prince.

Sold!

lolTimezones, but it should be fun.

Maz, it should be noted that at some point, they are supposed to introduce guesting, in which you could be a guest on another server to quest or do other activities (basically everything except WvW). So you could join a server with a strong community during your playtimes, and just pop on the Zam guild during offtimes or whatever. You don't have to be on the same server to be in the same guild (though guild perks are server-specific).

What happened after you passed out at the moot is pretty funny too... I'm doing that story line on my Norn Ranger.

But, most people play these games to take a break from reality . . .

Crystal Desert is surprisingly active during American snooze time. I've played sessions from noon to midnight and I haven't noticed a significant change in player density. Not that empty servers are a problem for me, to be honest. I'm the lone ranger... wolf... whatever type player. I don't mind when my areas aren't completely crowded. Like I said, though, that isn't really the case. Some of the Norn areas might seem dead, but the minute I engage in a boss fight, people seem to pop out of nowhere to help me. And if I travel to the Human areas then there are people everywhere.

Also, as far as I can tell, there's no latency, which is totally kick-***. At least nothing noticeable. That was honestly my main concern about playing on an American server. Well, that and in-game time matching server time like in WoW, which would mean I'd have to play in the dark all day, but luckily the in-game day cycle is faster, so it's no problem.

I haven't been on much either. Not because I don't find the game fun, I do. But I think I'm just really burned out on the MMO genre. I could enjoy TOR because 80% of the reason I was playing it was for the great story, and the general form of quests with the conversations was really very immersive (allowing me to completely ignore the fact that I was spending a lot of time killing X Sith because I'm a completionist).

Not saying GW2's story is bad, at all. I've liked what I've seen so far. But it's definitely weaker in this game than in TOR, and it doesn't do much to keep you from feeling like you are playing an MMO. TOR was like a single player game with some MMO features. GW2 is an MMO with single player features.

Seriously not saying that's bad. I've had a lot of fun playing MMOs over the years. I'm just burned out on them right now. Though I haven't really played much of anything since I beat ME3, to be fair.

I've been playing a couple hours a night (or day) at least long enough to finish the daily achievement and finish up some zone exploring.

My brother is on constantly though.

The good thing about this MMO is that I don't feel guilty for not playing - I'm not paying a monthly for it.

Yeah, that really is awesome. I don't feel guilty for not playing, nor do I feel pressured to play. It's a lot more casual...

Who knows, maybe the F2P genre is worth looking into... I'll have more data come November when TOR goes free.

Sadly building as F2P and converting to F2P are two different things. DDO and LotRO are the only two games I've seen make the shift to F2P and not botch it. SOE is stupidly using the F2P model to try and push people back onto subscription. We'll see if SWTOR can pull it off without ******** it up.

Yup not in a hurry to get to some "end game" first. Just enjoying the ride super casual and loving it so far.

Yeah same here. I have friends teasing me for being so low level, but i'm not too worried about it. I'll get there eventually.

I dunno if I completely agree with you there Digg. I do agree that GW is more of an MMO than a single player game. But I think it's still done things a lot different than most other MMO's have in the past. I only ended up playing TOR for about a month and a half before I burned out on it - it was just too much like WoW. Now granted, we've only had GW out for a month so far, but I just don't see myself getting burned out on it so quickly. While TOR does have a great story to it, it wasn't enough. At least not for a game that i had to pay a monthly subscription for. I might try it again once it goes F2P.

The only thing I'd really call different compared to other MMOs I've played is the more action-y feel of combat rather than just simple math functions going off automatically or with a button press. Some might argue Tera did it first, but I think GW2 took it a step higher. Meanwhile, Rift did meta-events to basically comparable quality and ingenuity. Honestly, they're just randomly triggered quests. So I can't quite say they're innovative there, and Rift is also looking to up the bar on their events come their November expansion release. The rest of the game mechanics are pretty standard fare, maybe even a bit too much on the mundane side. The prevalence of bugs also isn't help Anet's credibility, F2P or no.

I won't speak on PvP much because it generally disinterests me. I can also point out three glaring reasons why. First, queues. **** that. Second, the general futility of being an individual player. Some may revel in the power and concept of collective zerging, but you're just not going to be organizing random people well enough to adopt actual strategies. Third, off-hours capping. Did you work hard to capture and upgrade that keep? Too bad, some people in a different time zone are gonna undo your work while you and everyone else sleeps.

Two and Three are points I've had contention with when playing Aion back in the day, though with a slightly different spin on the third point. Zerging prevailed there, too. Didn't help when you had a bunch of PvP twinks headbutting with a bunch of PvE casuals, either. But the real issue I'd disliked about their fort system was restricted windows of access. This is sort of the inverse of GW2's problem, where you could've had all the people in the world ready and willing, but you simply couldn't conquer a fort because the game wouldn't let you.

I'm honestly not sure what Anet could do about it other than making it easier for smaller groups of people to invade whenever, but some might argue it'd make it even easier for night crews. On the other hand, keeping a fort when you can defend it usually isn't too tough. So the only defense is to have your own night crew at present. Either way, blah at it all, and add a fourth gripe in WvW repair costs on death.
