I suppose... if you like that 70's look. As for the ponytails, pigtails and little side ponytails with bangs are for fourth graders. It's bad enough I'm running around (at first) in a frilly skirt that shows my panties when I run. Combine that with the baby faces and the little girl hair and it's just not somebody I see kicking *** and lighting the world on fire. Mind you, I'm not making any kind of statement on gender politics. I just find it annoying that there seem to be so many options for that particular aesthetic and no freaking ponytail.

Norn hairstyles may be fewer but they are better by far! My word is law! Smiley: grin

Honestly, the male humans have the same problem--you will look young, like late teens early twenties young. I imagine this is the case for each race, as all the stories depend on the characters being relatively new to the world. That's why the human males have 8 different douchebag beard options.

The hair options are pretty much straight rips from Aion, maybe even other NCSoft games. Some are better than others, but I guess character creators just aren't at the point I'd like them at yet. Though, I'm glad this didn't take Aion's approach in allowing people to make 2 foot tall Humans or 8 feet tall Asura. That **** was just dumb.

Anyway, I just finished doing all the starter zones this morning, getting all the POIs, Vistas, etc.. If I had to make one critique, it would be the human side actually seems the weakest in event scripting and follow-up. I can't speak too much on how other race/option PSs go, but I'll sum up mine as a street rat orphan so far.

It starts off with you meeting up with your buddy Quinn, who's apparently got caught up with a nasty thief and his gang. On a promise to get him out of hot water, you agree to help them out initially. You go on to find out they have some big attack planned poisoning the city's water supply, but at this point, they'd also taken your buddy leaving you the choice to either focus on stopping the act or saving him. I chose to save him, which put me in a scenario similar to what an earlier poster noted with a kick butt mob and subsequent waves. This is one of those instances where ranged superiority stands out, especially in being forcefully leveled down, because I basically kited him around plinking him to death. Anyway, after that you find the poison got into the water and killed a few people, but otherwise the city guard handled it thanks to your warning. Your next objective is to take out the bandit boss with the guard captain helping out.

Once you clean up that mess, you receive a letter with half a pendant from someone claiming to know your parents. You go to meet up with them, only to be ambushed by some faction called the White Mantle, which apparently has a long history with the kingdom as a sort of bogey man organization making trouble. You get a few more characters introduced from the queen's guard, who helped survive the ambush. Since we know the WM is involved now, they all decide to attack one of their hideouts to try and find out why your character was targeted. In doing this, they basically find a hit list marking you the child of two of the prior king's spies with the earlier pendant piece being proof of that. So, while trying to find out more and do something about the list, the earlier guard captain volunteers to let himself get ambushed to draw out the WM, but you and the others would be on standby to save him. This was probably the funnest fight of the line so far, as it's basically two small armies going at each other. After this, you're told they did some digging on your parents and found an old listing for a house they'd lived at. In visiting that, you find it in ruins with two tombstones back in a cave mentioning your character specifically as their child.

I haven't progressed past this point yet, but my next stop is the throne room to see the queen. Personally, I feel the tombstones are a red herring and your folks are still alive. They try to suggest whoever brought you to the city must've buried them, but it's such a weird location that it strikes me more as them trying to leave a clue to keep looking.

Anyway, I'm level 33 now and had been working on the 2nd human area. I really wish the AH would get up since it's slowed down my crafting skilling significantly. I've been trying to farm small claws so I can upgrade my armor, but I'm also feeling like ANet has an anti-farming measure installed since I stopped getting drops when farming a specific mob type for like 30+ kills, but after killing some others, suddenly drops came again. But yeah, I have so much green **** I wanna sell that I have literally made new characters just to hold things for now.

Aw, don't be like that. There is a ponytail hairstyle, but it's off to the side a little. There's also a decent pigtails style.

The Norn females have a few takes on the ponytail as well--a high, ornate one (very Asian), another one that's kind of like a headdress, and then some simple pigtails set more towards the back, with long hair.

Sorry, I made up my mind and spent my discretionary on PnP RP stuff before you posted. If I have spare money next payday, I'll re-examine this as an option.

Human side quests were definitely weaker (I can only comment on the quests up to level 8 or so), but I enjoyed the main quest quite a bit. I think they probably decided to make Humans, as the traditional race, the more traditional MMO experience.

If anyone hasn't been there yet, Rata Sum is a really cool city. Annoying to navigate before you get the waypoints, but it's pretty awesome design from a purely RP perspective.

2. FFFUUUUUU- I was just finishing up my Sylvari after spending hours getting him to where I wanted him and the client finally decided it had been long enough and kicked me out. D:

I see your soulless cuteness and counter with my emo trench coat pistol ninja!

Screenshot

In other thief news I have decided that sword + pistol makes thief way way more survivable solo. As much as I love the dual daggers for burst they lack the mitigation and control that sword and pistol gives.

1 shadowstep stab while setting up your reverse portal that you can shadowstep back to instantly with the same button.
2 Pistol whip for huge damage and a stun
3 Black Pistol Shot for blind and more mitigation
4 Shadowstep stab back to portal to avoid mobs big attack and clear status affects (dots)
5 Shadowstep stab back and pistol whip or blind/stealth(slot skill) or heal/stealth(slot skill)
6 dead mob and still virtually full health

I can take out vets and mobs 2-3 level above me (I'm 18 now) with that combo. I love it to death.

I still go Dual pistols during chaotic group events because its easier to get shots in on rapidly dying targets when their is group chaos but solo sword and pistol is just amazing. I also took some toughness traits and they seem to make a huge difference. Going toughness and crit line currently. I might put some into power line soon as well but I'm not sure how much I want to spread vs getting big perks early.

S/P is indeed awesome for thief. P/D is pretty fun too, you can kite endlessly and kill everything before it can touch you. Trickery line is nice for initiative gains.

I've been having fun as Guardian.

I can't decide what weapons I like best. I've been using mostly sword & shield in one slot, and going back and forth between greatsword and hammer in the other. Greatsword has some decent AoE and a gap closer, but you can swap weapon sets mid-fight so I could always use hammer and swap to sword & board for the closer after my knockback. Torch offhand has some cool moves, but I've found that most of the time when I join a group event (I'm like 17 or so right now), a large majority of players seem to be going full-on damage, so I do like being able to boost some allies' defenses. Plus, I've always liked S&B classes in games.

And I'm on whatever server Cattattack told me to join.

I've been really enjoying the Asuran engineer. Been playing with dual pistols, turrets, flamethrowers, grenades and other entertaining explosives and combustible materials. Although I enjoyed Mesmer and Guardian during beta, this little guy has me grinning every time I log on.

I hit this exact same problem at the same level with my Ele. The fire and staff combo is actually too good. It's by far more efficient than swapping to air or earth in non-dungeon PVE, and there's never any reason to use anything else, except for the occasional swap to water during a group event to cast geyser and healing rain, then back to fire. I enjoy changing up weapons during combat and found it too samey when I had no reason to do anything but cast the same 3 spells the vast majority of the time. In PVP it would be different of course, but I'm not dabbling in that yet.

Something weird happened to me just now.

Got an email from ArenaNet last night saying someone was trying to reset my password for my Guild Wars (1) account. The mail told me to ignore it if I wasn't the one trying to retrieve it. Then just now I got an email from ArenaNet saying someone had accessed my Guild Wars 2 account from a different country than I normally log in from.

I find this odd, primarily because I don't recall ever creating a Guild Wars 2 account. I checked and double-checked the links and sender. Seems legit.

Quote:
Dear Guild Wars 2 Player,

We have observed a suspicious login to your Guild Wars 2 account from a different country than you normally play from. We believe your account has been accessed by hackers who have harvested lists of account names and passwords from other games and web sites and are systematically typing them into Guild Wars 2 looking for matches.

If you can still access your account, take steps immediately to prevent further intrusion. We recommend that you create a new email address to use solely for your Guild Wars 2 account. And it's vitally important that you use a strong, unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you've never used anywhere else. Make sure your Guild Wars 2 account name and password are unique!

If you can't access your account, contact our customer support team and we'll help you restore access.

See our blog post on this topic for more tips on securing your account.

Thank you,

The Guild Wars 2 Team

Does anyone know if ArenaNet created GW2 accounts for those of us who have GW accounts? That would explain why someone was trying to gain access to my GW account and ArenaNet logging it as a breach on my GW2 account (which I don't have). The other alternative is that someone created an account using my email address, somehow managed to verify the account without me ever seeing the verification email, then proceeded to play GW2 from one country before playing it from another, triggering the "wait a minute..." email from ArenaNet.

Just to summarize, I have a Guild Wars account, but I have never set up a Guild Wars 2 account. I have never played Guild Wars 2. I don't even have the client on my computer.

What gives? My Guild Wars account has been inactive for five or six years, so I don't care if someone gained access to it (I've changed my passwords five times over since then). I'm just curious how someone could gain access to an account that doesn't exist and why ArenaNet believes it to be mine. Does it mean I've got a GW2 account running somewhere? That'd be nice.

Edit: Breaking the links so people don't click them, just in case there's dirt at the other end (they seem to lead to the official website, though).

ArenaNet never set up GW2 accounts for current GW1 users. You had to set up the GW2 account yourself and link it if you wanted credit for any of the GW1 prizes you could get in GW2.

But I have heard that there've been lots of hacking attempts lately, and ANet says this about it:

Quote:
We're seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the "reset password" feature, and we're working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don't use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

Your email says basically the same thing, so it could be legit. You say the GW1 account password isn't in use anymore so maybe there's no security concern for you, but OTOH someone could be playing as Mazra right now in a guild called I HATE BEER [IHB] and ruining your reputation accordingly.

Don't click on any links in emails you get claiming someone tried to reset your password. It's definitely phishing, etc.

Anyway, loving my Guardian. Level 35 and getting ready to try the Ascalonian Catacombs tonight. Gonna run with Mace/Shield and Hammer and do my best to control enemies and protect my allies

Did some WvW with my guild two days ago and it was awesome. Using Staff and Scepter/Shield is great in that environment as you can control what's going on really easy. Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary are insanely good in WvW to protect your team. Those abilities in combined with Shield of Absorption can turn the tide of battle.

For general PvE and Dynamic Events I'm liking Greatsword and Sword/Focus. GS is great AoE while Sword/Focus is good for smaller groups or solo. Focus gives a good balance of offense and defense.

Last thing I've gotta say: Combos are so much fun and add some good depth to the combat. As a Guardian I can put up Light Fields pretty easy, as well as Fire Fields sometimes. Makes for some great synergy when grouping with others.

One of my friends who played GW1 had the same thing happen to him Maz. And I've gotten 3 of those emails in the last 36 hours or so. I've just ignored them, because I know I'm not trying to reset my password, and there's nothing I can do about it if someone else is trying to do it.

Yeah, I just ignored the password retrieval confirmation email, but the "You've been playing Guild Wars 2 from two different countries" thing is slightly disturbing. Forwarded it all to ArenaNet, so I guess they'll be able to tell me when I can restore access to this mysterious GW2 account that I don't have. Smiley: dubious

What's with all you people not playing with TINFS?

And it's not surprising that there'd be hacking attempts, especially since they'll be introducing tradable currency eventually. I'm surprised there aren't authenticators available.
