Was hoping to play some (meaning, play with the character creator) before work today, but looks like that won't be happening. I logged in before bed last night, just to check things out. Crystal Desert was full, but I remembered that you were free to switch home worlds at launch so I just jumped on another for the moment.

I'm definitely happy with the number of customization options I've seen. GW2 had, easily, one of the best systems for picking body type I've seen in an MMO.

Just need to decide between Sylvari and Asura for my Mesmer. I'll be out until 9 or so tonight, so maybe I'll try logging on again then.

[EDIT]

Just a quick edit to note that world transfers are free for 7 days, if anyone else ended up elsewhere.

The Asura thingies look like the little guys from FFXI (never played it).

Also... Asura? Really?

Take gnomes and make them ridiculously conceited and you've just about got it.

Yeah, I thought they looked a lot like taru tarus as well, but their personalities are very different.

They're clearly the same sort of archetype as the tarutaru, being the tiny but super intelligent, magical race to compensate. But the Tarus were peaceful nature lovers and more interested in magic than science. Aura are cave dwellers invested in science who want to bend the natural world to their will.

If you blend WoW's gnomes with the Taru and add a dark side you've just about got it.

Ze Crystal Desert, alas she is full. I rolled on a different server just to see things for now. Hopefully I can play with you all once the initial population stabilizes.

I got a bunch of stuff in the mail that I don't know if I should use it now or sit on it. I did try the pet guy with the fiery sword though. :)

So far the game looks nice and my thief is stabbin like he means it.

That is awesome and I had forgot about that (can't recall where I first read it). I got a RL friend of mine to play and he's on Crystal so I will try my best to get there quickly.

I just rechecked, literally 5 minute after posting that and bam...was able to get on to Crystal! (joined Tinfs earlier today). So lets roll!

I have my Asura Elementalist up to 8 or 9, I am always a level or two behind my class quest Smiley: frown

Even though I have done all the little quests around the world, though I obviously don't know where to go to pick up the little quests that randomly trigger.

When you find a "new event nearby!" after doing it, stay there a few minutes. Usually they expand into a larger quest chain. Unless you just find it for the final part Smiley: tongue

If you haven't been already, get the harvesting tools and just gather everything as you see them. The little EXP adds up. As for events, well, some areas seem to have more frequent happenings than others, and at the barest level, I'd say they somehow relate to player activity in the area for some of them. If you really want to chase 'em down, you'll have to frequently check your map for the orange circles/skulls/whatever and WP closest to them.

Checking my achievements before logging, I've done 58 events, myself. There's probably 10 of those I've done 2-3 times in the process and I've only done the starting areas for Human and Norn so far. I'm like 5 levels over my current PS quest (16, with me 21), but I'll get downleveled to that, anyway. And I think the next one is level 20. But yeah, just keep at it.

If I had one major gameplay gripe it'd be the sheer advantage ranged attacking has. I've killed a lot of veteran type mobs or even kited bosses around by plinking them with my gun. While greatsword is my melee weapon of choice for my warrior, being in range is too often an easy dirt nap even if you do dodge attacks decently. And some mobs don't seem to telegraph stuff, so sometimes you're just instantly hit by ****, too. A few of the event bosses can be notorious for this, like the little ice dragon between the towers in the Norn north region when capturing those. With the general absence of tanks, this can get old fast.

Is it just me, or is the level 8 personal story quest ridiculously hard? I had issues with it on my Mesmer during one of the stress tests, and I'm having issues with it on my Elementalist now, as well. I think I'm definitely going to need to borrow someone to get it done, because this very last mob seems practically invincible. Even with Zojja and Mr. Sparkles helping me, I couldn't kill it, and eventually they were dead, and then all my gear was broken and I just gave up.

I like that this game is harder than WoW, but I think it might just be a little too hard, at least when it comes to the personal story quests lol.

If you do all the events in an area, you should probably be overleveled. At least, my elementalist seems to be consistently 1-3 levels above the area. But he's only 7 now. I imagine getting gold on the events makes a meaningful difference. I only got silver/bronze on a few, and I didn't compare the exp levels, so I don't know for sure.

As for you Pigtails, Elementalist seems to have a massive diversity in skills due to all the weapon/stance options, but they definitely aren't balanced. I'm finding Scepter/Dagger to be pretty great for fire, but the scepter's air skills are atrociously weak. Maybe try switching your weapons up and go at it again?

Some of the events have been a ton of fun. I'm really happy with them so far. It's a nice way to switch up questing, and it's great to see all the players in the area converge.

Multiple guilds is a pretty awesome feature. Nice way to let us all play together without having to sacrifice other interests, like PVP/Endgame stuff. They just really need to add a way to guild chat with whatever guild you aren't currently representing. Or maybe that already exists and I just don't know it.

I'm still trying to unlock all the skills for my scepter/focus. I have a dagger waiting for me to finish. That's the thing that's annoying about the Elementalist. Most classes only have one set of 2-3-5 abilities to unlock per weapon. Elementalists have 4 times that amount, so it takes way longer.

I've got all the fire and water spells unlocked, and I'm about halfway through air. Maybe I need to spend some time working on unlocking stuff first, but that'll feel grindy. =/

I had been grinding them out, then I realized that I wasn't necessarily gaining anything by doing so. You'll have plenty of chances to try new weapons so just go with whatever your best weapon is. You aren't going to use them anyway until then. Scepter/dagger fire is strong. Whatever gives you the wall of fire skill is decent. Ice is less powerful than fire across the board it seems, and air with a scepter.needs a serious buff.

Yeah, I feel like scepter/focus ice needs a serious buff to the healing. Those skills barely do anything. Their damage is weak, and the heals are weak. It makes me sad. I guess part of it is I need to get more used to switching between the different schools. It feels weird going back and forth so much.

I'm not sure you do, really. Not now at least, with balance the way it is.

At the moment, at least for the weapons I've tried, fire does far more single target and AoE damage than Ice or Air. Ice does some healing, but not really enough--you'd be better off killing your targets much faster with the fire spells. Air is just far too weak--it's supposed to be the single target set, iirc, but it does worse than Fire's aoe skills there.

For example, Fire for scepter gives you 101, 756, and 571 (aoe) damage. For Air, it's 91, 403, and a blind attack (cause your opponent to miss the next attack. Dagger offhand for fire gives you a big Aoe that causes a burning effect (and gives you might when you use phoenix) and causes 403 damage, and the second skill is 941 in a cone in front of you, with a bonus to burning foes. Dagger for air gives you an AoE that does 336 to your main target, then hits nearby targets (dunno if it's the same or less), and a knockback+swiftness skill.

Really no reason whatsoever to use Air in PvE right now. Just stick with fire until everything is balanced. Water is fine if you're grouped, but don't rely on it when solo. I have no clue when Earth becomes available...

So yeah.

I wandered around and got into some dynamic events, it really helped out. Ended the weekend at lvl 12.

Enjoying the elementalist, especially as I start to get my utility spells. I do agree that fire seems to be the way to go so far for PvE, at least early on. The Asura personal story seems pretty comic relief but there have been some challenging fights which is great. I am not giving up swtor but I do see myself going to the end with this game.

Can European players play on NA servers, or are they doing it Blizzard style?

Do I need to purchase the game from my own region?
To play from North America, you must purchase a North American copy of the game. To play from Europe, you must purchase a European copy of the game. Note that this restriction impacts where you can play from, not which game worlds you can choose to play on.
By purchasing the correct copy of the game, you're supporting the game in your country, and you'll be connecting to your local data center, using your local customer support team, and downloading the correct language support for your country.

From here so ya... Blizzard style it would seem.
