Ah, I didn't have the DLC loaded. I'll have to see how that goes.

This doesn't change my opinion of the stock FO3 ending. It was really poorly done.

That's one of several reasons why I think New Vegas is a better all around fallout than FO3. When I played it shortly after it came out, the ending really pissed me off.

Along with the continuing after the ending, the DLC also add several perks, additional levels, and they also have your companions scaling with you so they don't become worthless after level 15. If you already own the DLC (I'm presuming you bought the GOTY edition on sale sometime) I'm curious as to why you would play without it. It doesn't remove any content, and just adds some useful things.

I was unaware of having to activate it all under the "Data" from the launch menu before loading the game (and it didn't come pre-checked). I'm used to "Complete" editions having the DLC automagically bundled into them from the start (like in DA:O) or receiving keys with a very obvious "Activate DLC" option from the game menu (like in DA2). I hadn't looked into what the DLC specifically did so just assumed whatever content it offered was rolled into the existing game.

I'm not even criticizing the game for the DLC mix-up. I'll just chalk it to my own lack of noticing.

That's odd. I'm pretty certain that when I bought the DLC it all came prechecked. I never bothered to open the Data options until I started adding mods. Although after doing a quick search, it does appear that some people have had issues with the dlc becoming unchecked on its own.
