It always bothers me seeing people say they NPC Blues and such. It just feels like a red flag that natural gold acquisition isn't as it should be when some are so willing to forsake breaking them down into craft materials at no actual charge. In the end, it screams crafting sucks and people would not bother wanting to sell excess because the NPC return is faster, and even competitive to AH costs. I guess I'd put a bit of the 10 sale limit with no means to cancel an auction along with this, too.

It tells me that crafting mats before Inferno are less off the AH than what blues/rares vendor for. Which speaks to the foolishness of the people selling the mats, but for servers this big it's a hard market to shift. Every few days I go on and buy up everything that's less than what the MATS vendor for, then sell them, but it shifts back down a few gold. With the bulk of them I manage a few thousand profit.

The blacksmith feels a lot like the stereotypical WoW profession. You can't make anything useful for yourself while leveling, and it's basically a gold sink for much of the game. The jeweler I'm liking though. Upgrades pay off with immediate stat increases, and adding old jewels to items you throw up on the AH seems to help them get noticed. Since, you know, if someone is searching for a piece with at least 70 dex, that +30 dex gem is a nice boost, plus a "free gem" takes some of the sting out of buying it.

The blacksmith materials though, yeah, what a waste. The long blackout on selling crafting materials on the AH was enough to get me in the habit of sending everything to the vendor, and I haven't really felt the need to change back. Although, it did seem that the costs of some of the crafted items were a bit lower after this last patch? I'm assuming it was in the notes somewhere? Either that or I'm just dreaming... I've made a handful of items that I've used while leveling, but since the stats you get are completely random (and usually useless), it seems easier and cheaper to just buy it off the AH.

That sounds familiar. I've made 1 item with the blacksmith I've used while leveling, a yellow helm when I was like in the 20s or something. Okay, actually I made 5 before I got one with the stats I wanted, another 1 went on the AH for half of what it cost to make it, and the remaining 3 were vendor trash. Like 10,000g down the drain. Smiley: rolleyes

But ya, so much easier to set filters for something like rare, belt, intellect > 50, under 1000g, and get upgrades every level for a fraction of the cost of making an item.

One of the bigger problems with the Blacksmith is there's no real rhyme or reason to item level requirements. This can mean gaps in slots you'd like to upgrade while leveling, but could see something like a level 12 synth, and then a level 35 synth. And if you're lucky, maybe that synth would be a rare one, thus capable of more mods, too.

Basically, if every slot could have a synth every 7 levels or so, actually using it while leveling could be feasible. Yeah, I've tried to snag cheap pieces off the AH, too, but nowadays most seem to just do open-ended auctions, thus I'd have to wait for a sale to close, no guarantee I'd even win if I did log off, decide to play, or whatever. I try to plan ahead sometimes, but it's still not perfect. But if I really want to play, it usually means just toughing it out and hoping something drops.

So, aside from increasing item options, I'd like see blue synths get a random chance to roll yellow. Hell, I'd like yellow synths to get a rare chance to roll orange. I think someone correlated synthing to D2's gambling, and that's pretty spot on. And there you could randomly get sets or uniques. And once the legendary revamp comes through, if ever, people might be inclined to keep trying a specific synth hoping to get lucky. Boom, more money gone from the economy as well as upping the value of craft materials.

And, well, I still wanna see more available recipe drops.

I haven't leveled a SC character in a while, but I use the Smithy while leveling on HC for sure, but usually for gloves, bracers, shoulders, and belts only. Boots, I need movement speed. Legs, body, helm and weapons I need sockets, and it's just easier to get those on the AH than trying to craft and get them. Maybe if there's nothing on the AH I'll craft them, but at least helm and weapons have to have sockets for me. High level gems while leveling are just too awesome to pass up. Red gem for huge EXP boost in the helm, and either red or purple gems in weapons for huge damage boost or LoH. Throw a Star Amethyst in a level 15 weapon and you can basically tank through anything. Of course, a Star Ruby will let you one-shot just about everything.

What they really should have used the BS for is as a mechanic to remove items from the economy, and I don't mean through salvaging crappy drops. Make the BS have the ability to enhance an item at a decent gold cost and at the expense of making the item bound (to the character would be preferable than to the account). Have it let you pick an affix category and have a minimum value that isn't completely garbage. Or, if the minimum value is crappy, have it let you repeatedly overwrite the bonus affix until you get something you want. The most important part to me is allowing the player to choose the affix they want to add. Of course, if Blizzard were to implement this, you wouldn't be able to pick it, but I'd still take that over nothing. Similarly, let Shen enhance rings and amulets.

So there you go.

They nerfed gold drops across the board in a lot of popular hell farming places. I've become pretty sick of how they're handling this game. Everything is just a knee-jerk reaction with zero consideration for the consequences. The dev team is pathetic.

I'll dabble into hardcore a little bit, but for the most part I'm done with this game. If this game gets any worse I'll have to tie it with ffxiv. I'll come back when d3 2.0 comes out I guess, lol.

Blizzard meet Deadgye. Deadgye, this is Blizzard.

I'm sure they have really good reasons based on internal data that only they can see which suggests they're taking a logical course of action, or something. Smiley: rolleyes

Despite my obvious enthusiasm for reducing the repair bills, the game needs to do something about gold. Inflation seems out of hand. Also, has anyone tried out the real-money AH yet? Made any sales?

I haven't made any huge sales in the initial volatility, but I've sold enough small things (and one $25) that I can pay for one of the new tires my car needs with it.

I knew how they handled everything with the precision of a sledgehammer from death knights in WoW. I was just hopeful that they wouldn't go full ****** and treat D3 like an MMO, and treat it horribly at that.

I'm sorry you do realize Diablo 3 isnt a subscription model right? Blizz already got the bulk share of the 6.2+ million copies of the game sold's money. The RMAH is icing on the cake / paying for the 1.2 million copies they gave away to annual pass subscribers. If you buy the game off the shelves and would burn it, Bliz wouldn't care, they already got a bulk of the money they expected from the game.

As for ActiBlizz being up for sale, it because Vivendi ,their parent company, probobly wants out of the Videogame business, and I don't blame them. In the past it was more of a effort =reward system versus the risk=reward system the industry is moving into, and right now ActiBlizz is at the top with both the best selling console and pc games. Being at the top leaves only a 2 options, stagnant/small growth, or decline.

This has nothing to do with Diablo 3, and everything with economics, its about buying low and selling high and future projection. Honestly ActiBlizz could buy their own stocks back and not be under a parent company anymore, they would only have to worry about their own profits and not those of its stock holders/parent company.

Source for D3 being the cause? The sites I can pull up suggests that shareholders in Vivendi have been pushing for changes in the company for a while, and just ousted the CEO because he was resisting it. A shift away from console/PC game companies and towards social media ones, that kind of thing.

I feel like I read about this sale a couple weeks back, but don't feel like digging for where I saw it. Either way, while odd to think they wanna sell off a cash cow like Blizz and its relationship to WoW, I think it speaks more of Vivendi's ******* up with other ventures if that seems like the only real way out of hot water.

I'm in Inferno Act 3 now on my DH. The challenge and variety of builds got me hooked pretty solid.

I've done some co-op with KTurner on his barb and that was fun as well. Act 2 inferno in general was a wake up call, but I dug in and found a way to get it done. Belial took me multiple hours over the course of a couple days. I found a build (Tanky) to knock him out and it was completely my own and not just a cookie cutter from youtube. Though lord knows I tried those first lol.

Now I am working on farming up some more "godly" stuff. I have not touched the RMAH yet, I just won't feel like I earn it if I just buy power. No judgement call there it's just me and my old school style. Most of my stuff I bargain hunted for less than 300k on the GAH.

I did find a couple pieces of near godly gear this weekend for others classes and priced it for 5-10m, Not sure if it will really sell but lots of other items with the same stats as these were priced that high. I have not sold anything for over 500k yet but I did have some luck on the stats for these two items (i63).

More or less. Spend 60 bucks on a game that was just a huge let down. I am over it now, I plugged Skyrim back in. =D, get my feel back for the release of Dawngaurd or w/e.
