So I picked this up last week on sale and got around to playing it a bit last night. So far I am not sure if I am about to indulge in a micro managers wet dream, or if my brain is going to start leaking out of my ears from overload. Got to love a game that practically requires a week long training course to play the campaign.

That being said I knew what I was getting into. Last RTS I played was King Arthur and that had a similar feel, but man am I rusty at RTS.

I read some of the guide I found here:

http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?137395-Frogbeastegg-s-Guide-to-Total-War-Shogun-II

Then started the tutorial campaign after doing the tutorial battles. I've already got a Ninja, so that seems good. Also the naval battle tutorial was pretty neat. I screwed up and lost one of my medium ships by trying to solo another medium ship while my heavy and archers were on another ship.

Anyway, I figured I would start a thread for anyone who has played this one or the new one that just came out for any really important tips or tricks that could save me some facepalming. Smiley: smile

I picked this up back in January but haven't played it yet. But I still remember Frogbeastegg's excellent M:tW unit guide so I'll be sure to check your link out once I get started. Thanks!

I've been putting quite a bit of playtime into this sucker, and have found out quite a bit of the interesting mechanics invloved. (like, did you know where you are on the campaign map decides what battlefield you play on?) I've also started a few coop campaigns, and they seen quite a bit easier than single player, so be prepared to ramp up the difficulty a bit to compensate.

There are also some excellent mods out there, notably Darthmod, which is a compilation of a couple good ones.

If you guys want to play some multiplayer, hit me up.

I need to get the mechanics down a bit better first but after I do some more single player campaign I might. :)

Multiplayer battles are a wholly different beast, one which I haven't really sunk my teeth into yet.

I think I am on my way to failing my first campaign on normal difficulty. It's really fun either way and with what I have learned I will be Shogun next time.

I started out as Chokusube (Archers on Southern Island). I conquered my island and quelled several rice shortage rebellions. This gave me about 8 provinces. I settled in then some to work on my Navy and build the structures I need for more advanced troops. During this time the Shoni who had consolidated the eastern island decided they hate me so they started pirating my trade routes and blockading my ports.

So I got pulled into a naval campaign and subsequently decimated their navy. During this time I screwed up and had too many troops garrisoned in my provinces and the support cost for them plus the navy was cutting way down on my internal construction.

All the while two strong clans where gobbling up the main land. The strongest directly north of me Hekkade has 19 provinces of the 25 needed to become Shogun. So I decided the only way I was going to live was broker for peace with the Shoni and form a military alliance. The Shoni Warlord saw the Hekkade about to swallow us both and quickly agreed to set aside our differences as honorable warriors.

So now It's my former enemy and me vs the Hekkade on two fronts. Can we stop their rapid advance or we will be swallowed by the inevitable tide? We strike tonight.

(This game is so much fun for $7.50)

Now I want to pick this up. Been getting bored with Medieval 2 anyway, even with the mods.
