True enough. I really loved the part where Shepard woke up, climbed inside Harbinger via gaps in its armor and shot its core with a point blank Cain while Garrus opened up the citadel and the crucible destroyed all the other reapers. Warning: Made up ending spoilers with minor actual spoilers.

Exactly that part.

Clearly BioWare intentionally created such a vague ending so that they would be able to rewrite it in the form of the most popular interpretation by the players.

Also, I wish someone would have told me "Shepard is slowly being indoctrinated" at the very beginning of ME3. I would have gotten a lot more out of the game's story just as one sees all kinds of hints by watching a movie the second time knowing the twist ending.

If I add in a part to what I wrote earlier where Shepard pries open Harbinger's "skin" with an omni-tool to make an entrance, add in an epic one liner specific to whether Shep is Renegade or Paragon and end it with Shep walking away from the burning wreckage of Harbinger while a reprise of the main theme from ME1 plays, think I could get you to nominate me for pope?

Kick. ***.

Kotaku also had an article on the ending DLC. They aren't adding new endings, but they are adding more variance to them to better represent your different choices along the way. This will be done both through cutscene changes and epilogue additions. It will also be available for any save file you have before the ending. So if you completed the game, and want to see the new version of the ending, you can just load up the save you (hopefully) made right before initiating the end.

Their goal is, apparently, to add "clarity and context" to the existing endings.

I think Justicars might be one of my favorite plot elements of Mass Effect. Samara's quest lines are, in my opinion, some of the coolest in ME2+3. I just wish 2's lasted longer.

But seriously, I adored that part in ME3. Well, everything except suddenly having 3 banshees attacking me in one room...

When Samara announced that an Ardat-Yakshi could not live outside a monastery, my jaw litterally dropped. It didn't even enter my mind that Samara would break the code, which made the next part even more powerful.

I have to say, despite possible ending shenanigans (that I still haven't gotten to yet), this game has some remarkable writing.

In other news, I started Tali's mission last night. I was going pure paragon, but I couldn't help but call out Admiral whatshisname for his course of action while I was on board the dreadnought.

I also adore the fact that my choices regarding Tali and Legion actually had a meaningful impact on her character in this game. :3

If you like Samara, then in the Lair of the Shadowbroker DLC in 2, you can read through the data the Shadowbroker has on everyone.

Samara's is particularly powerful. It contains two things: A transcript of her last conversation with her daughters before she became a Justicar, and a list of possessions she gave up upon becoming a Justicar.

The conversation:
Quote:
Transmission log, 1755 CE

Samara: I have called you together to ask something of you. It is not a small thing, but it is for the best. Rila, Falere, are you receiving this?

Falere: Quite Well

Rila: [Indistinct]-s Mother.

F: We’re in a common room, her communicator’s too near the door. [Door shuts.] Try now Mother.

S: This news would be best delivered in person, but I am not allowed to travel before tomorrow. I have something I must do. It is hazardous, and thus I must do it alone.

F: What do you mean, hazardous?

S: Tomorrow I take the Oath of Solitude. It is to prepare me for the other oaths, but it means--

F: You what?

S: It is an oath required of all who--

F: I know what it means Mother! I’m forty-two years old. I have heard of justicars.

S: Then… do you understand why I must do it?

F: No.

S: The life of a justicar is dangerous. I will make enemies and they would seek to use you-

F: That I understand. What is not clear is why you do this in the first place. Is it not enough that we live a hundred light-years away from you in a dark fortress? That we have no communicator of our own but must use this communal one? Do you know what it means to us to hear your voice?

S: I am sorry, Falere.

F: And now you take that away.

S: That is wounding, but it is the truth. I wish there were some other path.

F: And you called us instead of coming to see us.

S: If I came to see you, I would never leave. You know what that would mean.

F: Is she that terrible, Mother? Is she so much of a menace that you would deny us ever seeing you, ever hearing your voice again?

S: My dear… I cannot lose her on the world and pretend I owe her victims nothing. Her crimes are my crimes. In time you may see as I do.

F: Time is a weak salve for a fresh wound.

S: Please… do not let anger ruin this. We will have our lives to contemplate the pain and loss. Can we not see from on another’s eyes, just for a moment?

F: (silence)

S: Falere?

F: I don’t want to lose you mother. Not over someone as small as Mirala, or whatever she calls herself now.

S: And Rila? You have been silent. Are you in accord?

R: I can only say I will yearn for you too.

S: Surely you have more than that.

R: Is this the only way you will have any righteousness Mother?

S: It will let me live a just life.

R: Then the Goddess forbid I take it from you.

(Rila terminates call)

F: She loves you mother. She did not want to say it, but she does.

S: And you? Can you understand why I must do this?

F: Catch her. Just catch her.

(Falere terminates call.)

The list:Possessions bequeathed by Justicar Samara

Large Goods:

-Four-bedroom home on Thessia
-Furniture and household appliances
-Elkoss Sapphire family skycar

Clothing and Jewelry:

-Casual clothing (approx. 20 outfits)
-Intimate negligees (3)
-Dancing dresses (4)
-Bond ceremony gown
-Bond ceremony bracelet
-Holo-locket (images of bondmate, children - reprogrammable)
-Baby and children clothing (various)

Miscellaneous:

-Lifetime Serrice Fitness membership pass
-First-place trophy (amateur skyball league)
-Vid and novel library (various)
-Photo albums (various)
-Sculpture of Samara and bondmate
-Personalized “Happy Birthday Mom” travel mug with photo of Samara and children (handle cracked and repaired, some glue marks visible)
-Memorial sphere (bondmate)
-Birthing creche

The list especially gave me a new view on Samara, as before becoming a Justicar, she was a soccer mom.

Edit because I fail at formatting.

If that is indeed the ending they're going for then I wish they'd have given some more hints along the way. Wasn't until the last game that the thought crossed my mind and only after reading about it.

I hate open and ambiguous endings (I'm looking at you, Inception!). I'm guessing they went with this cliffhanger ending because of future DLC. It would be sorta hard to do some DLC stories (and make more money) if the main story was truly over. If so, I seriously hope they'll allow me to choose a "happy ending" outcome where I don't feel like throwing myself out of the nearest window as the credits roll across the screen. If I wanted to feel like ****, I'd go watch Melancholia, or Knowing, or that scene from Armageddon where Bruce tells Liv that he's not coming home. I want to feel like I just saved the galaxy and got the girl. Video games are supposed to make you happy, not depressed.

In my opinion.

Who here has actually beaten the single player? I have a question about the war rating and readiness.

Does the war assets and readiness determine which ending you do get, or can get? Like say you have x points, you get x ending. y points you can get x and y ending. z points and you can get x, y, and z endings, or is it very specific x gets x, y gets y, and z gets z?

It's pretty much x = x depending on what you did with the reaper base at the end of 2.

ie: less than 1750 and Earth is destroyed no matter which choice you choose at the end. But with 5000+ Shepard pretty much "lives" if you will in all but one of the endings (Synergy)

This chart should shed some light on it all. Spoilers, obviously.

I downloaded it yesterday, but haven't played it. I saw a post saying that the new characters wouldn't be released until later due to an internal server error. Don't know if that's been fixed already.

New Operation this weekend.

Quote:
Anyone who has the Resurgence Pack multiplayer DLC operational during this weekend will be granted a Reserves Pack. A Reserves Pack unlocks one of the new random alien classes guaranteed.

...

This Operation is currently available to Xbox 360 and PC users only, and will run from Friday, April 13th at 5PM PST to Monday, April 16th 5AM PST. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our Multiplayer Challenge weekends on PlayStation 3. Sony has not yet approved the promotion. We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but until then, Sony will not allow us to run the same Multiplayer Challenges on the PlayStation 3 that we run on Xbox 360 and PC.
