I run pure Finesse, skipping poisons/traps for bow points. I main Daggers, stealthing for kills when possible. Bows are nice, especially once you get the AoE charge ability, and have a bow with good status effects. I prefer frost damage bows for the snares. If I can't sneak in and assassinate everyone one by one, I open with the AoE and fire more shots in before rolling in to snickt them all.

Nice! I was a bit bored with my main guy since I "accidently" crafted him some way OP armor and weapons just to see how the system works. So I loaded up my finesse guy and respeced him a bit so he would have ice traps full 6 point bow with rain of arrows from block and the aoe shadow damage cone spell. Main handing daggers, secondary bow.

I'm in spider town atm so not much use for stealth becuase spiders just kind of pop out of the ground all the time. But I will say it feels totally viable. Rain of arrows from block is awesome. So is setting down ice traps and luring mobs into them while I shoot them up with the bow. My gear is ***** on this guy atm like green bow and daggers. But he is still totally rockin and it's a fun change of play style from my might/sorc guy.

Finished the House of Ballads quest line.

First of all, the Twist of Fate reward for choosing to side with the house is quite nice for anyone using a health steal weapon, makes use of mana, or uses faeblades. I do all 3. :3

Secondly, I really like the storyline, because of the fae lore. They are essentially stuck in the thought problem Nietzsce described, forced to relive the same life over and over. But, even worse than his version, they know they are reliving it--they remember the last time they lived it, but cannot stop themselves from repeating the same actions again and again. So I can definitely pity the Maid of Windemere, who was desperate to change her fate so that she didn't endlessly cycle through the same story over and over--stuck in a ruined castle, pining for love that she could never have.

I sided against her, because her actions were wrong. But I like to think that activating the fate mode to kill her was actually an act of mercy on my part. She had been corrupted by the prismere, and was doing wrong. I gave her what she wanted--the ability to escape her fate. Granted, she won't be experiencing that in the actual world, but the Well of Souls suggests that there is some sort of afterlife, so...

Also, I just unlocked epic gems and HOLY HELL these things are ungodly OP. I haven't actually made/used any yet, but some examples of what they can do:

75% chance to burn a target on strike.
60% chance to stun a target on strike.
+1 skill points per unlocked skill in the first 4 tiers of finesse, might, and sorcery trees.

Yeah. OMG.

Don't want to rain on your parade but at level 40 with 80 hours played and the main storyline + all factions completed, I've seen only 1 piece of gear with an epic socket on it. You can however use them when crafting your own gear which makes some of the blacksmithing gear really OP once you get the top-tier components.

Oh, I see. Didn't realize they had their own socket reqs. Still though, will be nice when I finally get one...

Also, pretty sure that next respec will mean I drop back down to pristine only quality, lol.

That was a good summary Digg. I pretty much felt the same way. I had empathy for her but in the end she was crazed on prismere, and even though crazy Fae chicks are hot in the sack it would have been more trouble than it's worth. ;)

Craft chestpieces, use those gems while crafting them. It's completely worth it, unless you're trying not to overpower yourself.

Craft all your other gear. End up with just shy of 1500 health at about level 24. And around 1500 armor(mostly Sylvanite, a couple pieces of Prismere). And multiple other ridiculously awesome effects. Without many lorestone buffs. Laugh at enemies' pitiful attempts to hurt you.

I would, but I'm too attached to Detect Hidden and Persuasion to sacrifice all the points in them. I can start bringing up Blacksmithing now, though.

I also love set bonuses, which makes it problematic. Just need 1 more piece of Captain's gear before I switch to that.

I can never find matching set pieces... I wore the house of ballads armor for a while just because it looked cool and matched.

I'm using the 2-piece of Perfidious because it gives 2 skill levels to all my finesse skills, which is a better reward than any combined upgrades I've found. The Captain's 4-piece set has the same, and is better. I'm currently at 3 pieces and will switch to it once I find a 4th.

Ok so I just did The House of Ballads quest line again on my pure Finesse guy. I decided to let her live to see what would happen. She is my sugar momma now and seems free of prismere. So I guess their is an alternate telling when you are fateless you can decide you own destiny. I wonder if she will aid me in the final war now. That might be cool. I also wonder how my rogue past life sweety will take the news lol.

Also yes bows are sick when you fully spec the line. I have a good bow now and am using shine and shadow for daggers. I think I like finesse better than battlemage. So nice to have the speed of daggers and the cross cut combo is disgusting with full poison and honed blades.

Plus my Dokkulfar rogue has white samurai hair and wolverine side burns. How cool is that? Smiley: nod

It sucks that bow is not really an option outside a finesse build. In order to get all the related skills you need to invest 56 points in finesse.

I'm working on a full might build and wanted to use a bow for secondary weapon but that's way too many points just to make the longsword/bow combo viable. I'll have to rethink my options for secondary weapon. I guess I could only get the first 2 tiers but not sure how efficient that would be.

56 is definitely still in hybrid territory. Shadowcaster, the final Finesse/Sorcery build is 55 in each. Dunno if you can get more points than 110, but you can definitely get +to finesse Twists of Fate that would keep you topped up. You'd gain mana back from crits and a poison teleport that helps keep you out of range, and poisons everything chasing you down.

Blademaster is 55 Might/Finesse. Pretty high damage buffs, among other things. No particularly new utility, but it ups your shield's defensive power. Snipe everything you can from afar and then whip out a hammer or something?

Jack of All Trades' Universalist destiny unlocks all weapon mastery abilities, so you don't NEED to put points in bow skills at all.

Yeah, to get your best bow skills and the best hybrid destiny, you need to be max level. But I don't see why that would be an issue, to tell you the truth. Obviously that would be the case.

[EDIT]

Oh, you meant for a full might build. I don't really see the issue, to tell you the truth. Might is built around being the most solid melee range spec. You get the strongest defenses and area of attack weapons. Giving them ranged options too would be way too OP, imo.

I mean, realistically, it would be a huge dampener on the fidelity of Finesse. Might is the melee build that gets shield skills, huge area weapons, strong single-opponent weapons, and higher defenses. Add in bows and they get increased range options.

What would that leave Finesse? Really, just fast attacks. Even without weapon skills, assassinations are available (and will, realistically, be about as powerful realistically speaking--you should 1-shot just about everything Finesse does). And a Might character can stealth just as good (or better... or worse) than a Finesse one.

That really just leaves fast attacks and poisons. And neither are significant enough advantages to counter how powerful might would be if they also got to fight at any range. They need SOME cons. :P

I have to say, though, there's something that's seriously lacking in the gaming industry regarding faction development. And it's starting to really irk me.

Say you want to play a stealthy character, or an archer, or a lightly armored fighter (all legitimate builds of pure Finesse). What are your options for factions? It's pretty much always the Thieves guild, or the Assassins, or both.

And that's getting really irritating. Really, really, really irritating.

Why can't I be covert ops? Why can't there be a hunting group?

Why do I always have to be a thief or a killer?

It's so annoying. I'm playing a strongly "good" Finesse character. I don't want to join the Travelers, because I don't want to be a Thief. I like the idea of being a covert agent in the war, specializing in infiltration and intelligence gathering. Fine, assassination would be part of that job. But it's a hell of a lot different than taking contracts.

This isn't limited to Stealth characters, but I find it the most egregious oversight. Because it's every frickin' game. Oblivion at least had the kindness to make the Thieves guild a Robin Hood-esque organization, with the Dark Brotherhood being the more "evil" stealth group.

It's 2012, and we are too far along for this still be an issue, imo.

Much less egregious issues are the lack of options for 1. Warriors and 2. Mages. Generally speaking, games either make the Mage Guild a strongly good order, or a true neutral one. But why don't the former also include an opposing faction you can join that's populated by Necromancers and Warlocks or something?

Warriors almost always seem to be mercenaries with honor. Why can't they balance that against a darker group, like an extortion ring or something? This is, admittedly, the least problematic for me, since "mercenary with honor" isn't a strongly pro-good position to begin with. You aren't vigilantes, for instance.

Just really annoys me. Kinda considering switching my destiny, just because of it. It's the same reason all my thief characters ended up abandoned in Skyrim. In Oblivion, I did Dark Brotherhood last, just to experience it. But otherwise my stealth characters did Thieves guild quests. In Skyrim, I just feel like an a-hole.

I finally completed everything in Dalentarth and have moved on to Erathell (??) and it's nice to see some more difficult mobs again. In one of the early side quests for that zone ( think it was a contract board quest from the keep) you go to a cave and the entire time you're in there you can hear something big above you that shakes the ground. It certainly piqued my interest.

I also got some really good longswords and was able to respec to use them rather than the too slow IMO greatswords.

I'm also leveling up a female rogue so i can be as evil as possible and see where it takes me.

Greatsword > Longsword, in my opinion. I've got the Chakrams for fast attacks and the Greatsword for whenever I want to demolish packs of critters. The block attack chain is brutal and looks badass like you wouldn't believe it.

See, I dont agree that the chakram is a fast weapon. They take forever to return to you and you cant defend during the animation.

I still use them though. Best ranged weapon for 9 pts into Sorc IMO.

As far as great/longsword its a matter of opinion and drops. No real benefit to having a slow weapon over a faster weapon and when i got to this Erathell place I found longswords with more dmg than any greatsword I had.

Add to that the fact I like the quicker transition from range to melee it was a no brainer to me. I had been looking for a good longsword for eons and then i got 2 purples and a blue in one dungeon.

Daggers + Bow is my new favorite combo. Bow just totally wrecks things when fully speced up that line and the poison line. With dodging and back blinking I almost never get interrupted anymore.

But honestly I only use the daggers for fun because a charged bow shot shoots a huge cone of arrows now. Then when poisoned mobs die they explode with more poison on their friends. It's way fun. Smiley: cool

Of course next week I will be all into pure magic most likely... I just like trying builds.

I finished the House of Ballads line, and decided to let her live. All the squires in the House now seem to hate me, but it's cool. I'm curious what happens if you kill her... I did make a separate save so I'll probably try tomorrow.

Yeah that is pretty much it right there. I started allowing myself not to accept some side quests I did not liek the first time I did them on my other toon. Talk to a bunch of snotty nobles to see who walks in to the kings room first? No thanks, I stab stuff. You need stabbing?

Also this just in:
