Spore and all it's addons are available on Steam for 75% off. $4.99 for the base game, $9.99 for the base game and one of two addon options, or 14.99 for the game and both addon options.
Pretty sure it still requires EA/Origin logins to play. And if you go by the Steam forums for the game, apparently enough people are buying it on sale and trying to log in to play that it's causing log in errors and such.

No idea about Jade Empire but I assume it's not Steam since it's Bioware and owned by EA. I asked elsewhere if anyone has bought it from Gamefly and what the DRM is. It might be Origin-Lite like Alice: Madness Returns is. As in you can launch the game without Origin but it auto-adds to your Origin library. I don't know for sure though.
I have only ever used the Impulse client to get Steam keys. Download the client, get my key, enter it into Steam, uninstall Impulse. It's a pain in the *** versus them just giving you the key but it's never kept me from a good deal either. I just ***** about it under my breath.

From what I heard it's a crappy game. You can't headshot the Zombies (only shooting them in the heart stops them), and there are barely any actual sniping areas so you're mostly on foot using a machine gun.
