The Witcher 1 and 2 are such different games in terms of game play that you would barely know that they are in the same series.

Basically the second one.

When you collect a set, you can combine them and get a badge, an emoticon, a profile background and a stupid worthless coupon. Except that the emoticons and profile backgrounds sell for dirt cheap anyway so if you really wanted a Super Meat Boy emoticon, you'd be better off just paying the 15¢ or whatever to get one directly. You also gain some xp towards your Steam level.

As an example for the coupons, I got a 25% off Surgeon Simulator coupon. Yay Smiley: rolleyes

Originally, you could only get a foil drop if you had a Steam level of 10+ so there was some incentive there to level up, hope for foils and turn a profit. But now any level can get foils and the market for them has largely collapsed anyway. I think level is supposed to affect your chance for a Booster drop now but who knows. Also, as your level increases you get more customization options for your profile. I won't pretend that anyone should care that much about their profile.

If it goes public the 26th a few things could happen: A) Prices spike up for a day for all the people that cant wait. B) Prices Bottom out from over saturation C) Nothing happens cuase the general population doesnt know about it. Any bets?

Also I have a sneaking suspicion Steam SUmmer sale will start the 26th also, start it off with the new card system put em all on sale(The games with cards that is) rake in cash

I didn't hate the first game, but I did want to play through at least on the low difficulty, at least to get the background story. I know it's unnecessary. I'll get around to it sometime before the 3rd game. Maybe.

Just skip the Witcher 1. You don't need to play it first really. Then after you are hooked on the series go back and enjoy it. The Witcher 2 is in a whole other class of goodness.

1 is pretty dated at this point and has somewhat dated and slightly frustrating controls. Still a great game but don't let it hold you back from playing 2.

The combat in 2 is a lot like the combat in Dark Souls. Demanding and technical but very responsive and highly rewarding once you master it.

In other news I picked up Mafia 2 DE on the daily special for 10bux. No idea if its any good but it looks like it has some nice ambiance.

There are now!

They were added in with the card beta. There's also a badge for having 1,000+ games and one for having 2,000+ games. GabeN has learned to incentivize owning more games than you will ever, ever, ever play.

They should do like GamersGate and have you specialize in a game type.

Apparently there is now an official combat mod for witcher 2.

Grabbed the Omerta Bundle for $10, great deal since just the game by itself is still $40.

Fairly sure you can get a Steam key version from FTL's website sale if that matters to you.

Also, Scribblenauts Unlimited and Lego Lord of the Rings are both $7.49 each from GetGamesGo, just to throw a different retailer into the mix. Both Steam activated.

That is a damn fine looking set of changes. I'm going to have pick that up and give the game another play through now.

How can I get a booster pack?
Once you have received all of your card drops, you become eligible for a booster pack, which is a set of 3 trading cards that may include both basic and foil cards. Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community. Make sure you log in to Steam each week to maintain eligibility.

Once eligible, your Steam Level increases your rate of receiving a booster pack drop:
Level 10: +20% increase in your drop rate
Level 20: +40% increase in your drop rate
Level 30: +60% increase in your drop rate
Level 40: +80% increase in your drop rate
Level 50: +100% increase in your drop rate (i.e. the rate has doubled)
Etc.

Thats what Steam levels do now, but seriously who gets level 50? Is that even possible?

Edit: Also do you think the in between levels count Like Level 14 being a 28% chance etc

Some of the changes I like, others I am not so sure. It's a complete game overhall in some ways and I liked the game already (Played through twice to see both sides of the story) But it is being put out by one of the game devs so I might have to give it a spin.

Probably not now but once enough cards/badges are released I suppose it will be. I haven't seen anyone yet over 20 (though they might exist outside my sphere of friends).
