Also now that I can sort of aim a gun in a video game (been playing borderlands all day yesterday and today) I am thinking I might want to use that copy of Mass Effect 2 I have kicking around. But that would mean origin. I am so torn. I did so good not signing up for it. Do I need to play 1 to enjoy 2?

Starting with ME1 has some tangible benefits in the later games, but nothing deal breaking; and ME2 has a DLC (Origins?) that fills you in on the details of the first game and gives you options on some of the most important choices you have to make. The combat in ME1 is lacking (though I didn't realize it until ME2, when I went "Holy crap, this is so much better!"), but not enough to actually make playing it a chore (especially on easier difficulties). The story makes it worthwhile, IMO, if you have the 15 hours or so to spend on it first.

But you can start with ME2, as said, and not be defaulted into Renegade choices if you have the DLC. You can also start with ME3, but without an import I believe you default into Renegade choices.

Alan Wake Collector's Ed. & American Nightmare are the Humble Bundle Weeklies.

Good thing I've had them backlogged for the past year! Smiley: laugh

I already bought Alan Wake for 360 but hated the controls, so I'll chip another dollar to try it out on PC.

I bought a few things from Amazon deals, and one of the bundles had left over keys from other stuff. So If anyone wants to buy or trade for Jet Set Radio and Renegade Ops + DLC. I have all the codes. 2 dollar for JSR and 1 for Renegade Ops sound fair? or a trade of something I dont have. (steam or Keys)

Fun Fact, I found a box of old ps2 games in my closet as I was cleaning stuff out for the move. Gamestop will still take PS2 games til Jun 1st (As long as the game sells for >5 dollar after mark up) and right now they are running a deal trade 7 games get +35 dollars in store credit. I traded in 14 games totaling 24.63 but they added in 70 instore credit, I grabbed 3-25 dollar Amazon Kindle gift cards and a 10 dollar LoL card for a friend.

The Amazon Kindle Gift cards just add 25 dollars tyo your amazon account and can be used on pretty much anything on Amazon. So I bought a few things Ive been on the fence for. Sega Fun pack (I didnt realize I already owned Renegade ops), Lord of the Rings War in the North, Lego Batman 2: DC Heros.

Im also considering grabbing Bully Scholarship Edition for 7.49 so i get the 5 dollar off coupon, then on the 29th when LA Noire Complete goes on sale for 7.49 I can grab that for 2.49.

So for all you console peons that want to join the Glorious PC master race, trading in your stuff at GS for Store credit, buy Amazon Gift Cards with credit, buy stupid cheap computer games for profit!

Edit: I had like 40 games total, the nes that traded in were mostly my Wifes old games (all the GTA's, Rachet & Clank, Jaks) I traded in a few RPgs (FF10, KH1, Persona 3 FES (Forgot I had it), Odin Sphere) Im going to toss the rest up on Craigslist for something dumb like 20 bucks, but Im keeping the rarer games til I know they get a HD re-release (Or a PSN digital release)

Gamestop also sells Steam cards so you could stock up for the Summer Sale. Although I'd probably opt for the flexibility of Amazon credit myself.

I already have 60 dollars sitting on my Steam account from trading my PS3 games in a few days back. I saw the Amazon Kindle cards and had to read that it works on almost anything on Amazon otherwise I would have done those instead last time too.

Steam has fallen off the cheap games wagon a while ago every once in a while hey have something ok but GMG, Gamersgate, Amazon constantly beat them out weekly.

Steam has never been about its weekly deals, really. Those were always just the chance for something nice.

The Summer/Winter sale is where they make their name.

I remember the last few sales being disappointing. I don't know if that's because they were lacking or because I have already bought everything worth having.

Also, Steam has stopped giving out masses of free games during the last few sales. I don't know if this was a selling point, but it certainly made things more fun. Personally, I find the 8-hour deals exceptionally boring in comparison.

Winter sale suffered from two things (IMO): The sales themselves were sort of muddled with all the rotating "flash" deals, voter's choice deals, daily deals, etc. The same titles kept churning up over and over for the same price points and I think people eventually just stopped following along. Because the rotation was so constant, the tradition of posting Dailies and any associated excitement from them was pretty muted.

Second is that many of the prices just weren't competitive with the winter sales (or fall sales) at Amazon, GMG and GG. With so many games for sale, you could always find something on sale at Steam that just wasn't on sale elsewhere but, when prices compared head to head, Steam was lucky to be tied.

It'll be interesting to see the summer sale and see if this is the new trend or was a one-off to be corrected. Speaking of, Steam did themselves few favors last summer when they delayed the sale for two weeks while the other retailers held theirs. I'm guessing a lot of people who previously only considered Steam for their shopping were enticed to start looking at new options.

I do think that volume of libraries is playing a part, too. I saw plenty of awesome deals for games I already owned (and owned because of earlier sales). So it's to be expected. It's not like there were a ton of new releases between the Summer and Winter sale.

Yeah and no. I spent less money than "usual" last winter, sure. More importantly, I spent most of it somewhere besides Steam.

I think the biggest thing Steam needs to do is figure out how to make the sale an "Event" again. I think last year they blew it between the delayed summer sale and weak winter sale. Or, hey, maybe they just don't care that much and are focusing on other things (like trading cards!).

It's fully possible. I honestly don't remember Amazon's sale at all, and I don't think I bought anything from it. Doesn't mean it wasn't better. So I shouldn't comment on a comparison between the two of them.

Here's a question: if Amazon sells a game using Steam DRM, does Valve get a cut? If so, I can imagine that their own sales are becoming less important - their sales built an audience, and now everyone wants their games to have Steam DRM wherever possible. So they still win.

No, Steam doesn't get anything from retail activations. I believe they take a third of the price on products sold through their store. From the Steampowered promo page for developers:
Quote:
It’s free: There’s no charge for bandwidth, updating, or activation of copies at retail or from third-party digital distributors.

It’s freeing: With Steamworks you avoid the overhead and delay of certification requirements—there are none. Distribute your game on your terms, updating it when and as often as you want.
[...]
Keep all of your users together no matter where or how they get your game. Steamworks has a host of features and services that support your retail product and any digital copies, wherever they are sold. It’s free. There is no per-copy activation charge or bandwidth fee.

Just to point out, you're probably going to have to let TSA check EVERY one of those boxes, because the parts are going to show up on scanners and they won't know what they are. I'd also check to be sure that it's even allowable as a carry-on. I'm sure it's fine if you check it in your luggage though.

If you're checking anything, make room in there. It'll be safer for the parts (you can put ample buffer around them), and it'll make your life far easier.

I like what Amazon has done with their digital games main page. The layout is a lot better than it was a month ago. I hope it is not a temporary change for a special deal. Their layout changed so often, I'm not sure if this one is permanent or temporary.

Yeah I figured they would check it. Its all going to be in original boxes since i saved all that. so it wont be a problem also im calling the airport today to double check, but from net searching it isnt on the list of non takable things. so i figure it should be fine, sans extra security.

Sigh and I wish Tony from Amazon could PM GMG. or I could transfer Steam wallet money to other people/or Amazon credit to other persons. If that was steam or amazon I would pick up in a minute, even though SE seems to be using the Hitman pricing model of lets drop it to under 10 in a few months approach
