Just a question for everyone, do you use shouts much? If so, which ones, and in what ways?

Oddly enough, I seem to rarely use them. Mostly only the starting shout, and mostly to get people to stagger in-between power attacks. I've rarely touched any of the others outside of points where you're required to use them.

Marked for Death and Whisper Shout, about 90/10 ratio. Full powered MfD turns even Alduin into a tissue paper pinata, and Whisper can trip oil/flame traps without tipping off nearby enemies like an arrow would.

I end up using Fus, Fire Breath, and Dragon Rend mostly. Most of the others I use for novelty once or twice and forget I have them. Like the time I called the thunder storm down and killed my horse with the indiscriminate AOE lightning...

I did summon the undead dragon a few times my first time through Dawngaurd, then promptly forgot about it again. I never gave Mark of Death much thought before. Maybe I should give that one more of a try.

I 'only' played about 70 hours, so I didn't get all the shouts, but I found the dash and freeze shouts to be pretty useful. Dash can be used to dodge projectiles, close with the absurd npc mages in the game, run away from the 1 psychopath melee guy they put in every dungeon or bypass those stupid swinging axe traps. Freeze is just a very long stun followed by a fairly long staggered animation.

Damage shouts seem pretty bad unless you get em early, force shout is pretty fun at rank 3 for knocking people off ledges. Uh, the invincibility/ethereal shout seemed interesting but I never really used it. Was never sure if the attack speed shout was any good or not. Pretty much all I can think of.

Whirlwind Sprint for general movement and reaching hard-to-reach platforms, and Dragonrend (well, if I had it yet in this game) for easy dragon slaying. Marked for Death had one use, against Alduin, and the Summon shout from Dawnguard was good for an achievement. Oh, and I jumped off a mountain once and used Ethereal just for fun.

Unrelenting Force for just general lulz. Love using that in a city from time to time.

Unrelenting force and Dragon Rend are pretty much the only shouts I use. If there are a lot of enemies, like during the civil war scenario missions, I might feel it appropriate to Call Dragon just for fun.

The trouble with using shouts to actually kill enemies is it means you aren't getting any skillups on weapons you would be using to kill them with otherwise. I also tend to not use followers for this reason.

I use the "Become Ethereal" shout once in a while for invulnerability (mostly to avoid falling to my death), but usually I'm too busy cracking open cans of whoop *** with my greatsword or lightning spells to worry about shouting.

I forget about the shouts about a half second after earning them. If they weren't required for the main quest, I probably would have never touched them.

Unrelenting Force and Dragonrend are about it. Since I make my own gear, shouts are pretty much just for messing around with, they have no real use for me in combat.

It's only useful for reaching out of the way ledges.

I recently got Skyrim on PC for all the cool mods. Any suggestions? I hear there is one that allows you to play online with other people to an extent.

I haven't tried the online thingy yet. It says alpha though, so it worries me. Smiley: lol

Skyrim HD - 2K Textures is high on the list, along with others like better book covers, more detailed potion bottles, nicer snow and ice, etc. The game will look a lot better, but the whole slowing down the computer thing can be an issue, on slower rigs especially I'd imagine. Very much recommended if your computer can handle it though.

Wet and Cold has some nice features.

SkyUI, because it's better.

Pure waters is pretty.

The Joy of Perspective I'm still on the fence about. You'll have a more realistic head movement when you swing an axe or something, and your hands will be out of your face when your weapon is drawn. It still has some bugs though (is in beta), and will occasionally give you odd perspectives (like while trying to ride a horse...).

After that there's a lot of well done body and armor mods, ranging from the ludicrously sexualized to ultra realistic and everything inbetween. There's a lot of options in those catagories to customize the game to your liking, and anything highly endorsed is probably worth a look-see.

These things help with the butterfly catching. See there's all these wolves and stuff that come by and keep interrupting the fun, you have to chase them away so you can get back to the heart of the game.

Freaks.

How else are you supposed to reach Hyrule Castle before dark?

Master Vampire killed Nazeem last night when I was playing. *High Five random vampire attacker!

*Edit also want to say the new Werewolf buffs are great from Dawngaurd. Last time I went Vampire Lord powers and never tried the new werewolf tree. It's actually worth changing forms now. He has this great fast sprint and knockdown tackles into face eating that is pretty fun. I wolf out sometimes just to cruise across the land faster.

The first thing I did was hunt down the "make townsfolk hide during dragon and vampire attacks". Nothing I hate more than losing random quest NPCs because a farmer decided that his hoe would be a good weapon against that massive elder dragon that is chasing me around the farm.

I have five or six mods but the only ones that spring to mind are Richer Merchants (what it sounds like: merchants have more gold), Deadly Dragons and some mod to let you wear another ring on your left hand. I think my other mods are graphic ones rather than game enhancements.

Seriously, why they don't try to do that already, I'll never know. Smiley: rolleyes

Also, just because I couldn't remember the name of it earlier: Enhanced Character Edit. You have to install SKSE, but it's perfect for anyone that likes spending a hour or more in the character screen making the thingy. Smiley: wink

I have...

Midas Magic - Never used it. I had hoped an increased magical selection would interest me enough to roll a mage. Nope!
Specialized Followers - I honestly forget what this does. I think it adds some additional strengths to followers, like upping their weapon skills.
Here There Be Monsters - Adds some high-level (and HUUUUGE) monsters into the world. Haven't fully explored it yet. Found a giant Mudcrab and Horker, though.
Enhanced High-Level Gameplay - Makes enemies tougher as you level. Otherwise at a certain point you just steamroll everything.
More Dragons! - Dragons spawn more often Smiley: tongue
Spend Dragon Souls for Perks - Goes well with the previous mod. You can spend an increasing number of dragon souls for perks. I think there's a hard cap of like 10 additional perks.
Sounds of Skyrim - Civilization/The Dungeons - More sound effects, makes the world feel more alive. Can be nerve-wracking in dungeons, as you can mistake background noise for monsters.
Lightweight Potions - Makes all potions .1 instead of .5 weight. Not required, but shaved about 100 lbs off my carry weight Smiley: laugh

Those all decent. Some I think are downright wonderful (and tiny) additions:

Dragon Priest Mask Quest Markers - For finding the dragon priests. Makes it a quest with markers.
Unread Books Glow - For those who have no desire to keep rereading books. Skill bonus books are a different glow as well.
Localized Thieves Guild Jobs - For the meta-quest Rebuilding the Thieves Guild you need to complete 5 jobs in each town. But jobs are assigned to random towns, so it can take a long time. This lets you choose the town.
Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers - This quest is a PITA otherwise.
Follower Trap Safety - A must have (or at least get an analogous mod). Follower AI is ridiculously dumb. This helps keep them from setting off every trap in the dungeon.

I want to get SkyUI or a similar mod, as the UI interface is terrible, but I believe it requires SKSE, and I haven't put in the time to figure out what that is. Mods scare me Smiley: frownSmiley: laugh
