This is entirely unrelated to skyrim but mah kitty is sleeping on my lap as I play and it's just too cute to not tell anyone.

So apparently enchanting is performed in real time and you really do only have 60 seconds with an enchanting+% potion... enchanting more smithing+% and alchemy+% gear was a real race against time!

well i started a roguish kahjit. after helgen, bleak falls barrow, and the first couple smithing assignments i was level 12 with 50 archery and 46 sneak, lol. seems like the opposite of most rpgs where the second run through goes so fast you end up underleveled. i was so proud of myself until i realised that enemies are going to be scaled way up relative to my damage output. my first guy was a thane with a house and a couple dragon shouts at level 11.

i tried the dense starfield and hi-res blood mods. only time i bothered to look at the sky at night it was overcast, and wow there's a lot more blood on the screen now.

the big ram patch feels like it makes the game load faster, but i don't see it actually using any more ram, and i don't think my c2d + 4670 have the balls to crank up the graphics too much.

have you guys seen these screenshots:

So, has anyone made a Khajiit with Fists of Steel (Heavy Armor perk) and gone unarmed yet?

Also, anyone rolling with a "Battlemage"? I couldn't decide if I wanted to go magic or melee, so I've gone both at the same time. Because I can. Sword in one hand, spell in the other.

At first I went with a robe because of the increase in magicka, but then I realized that I look 200% more badass in the Nord steel armor, so now I'm rocking crappy magicka regen, but an outfit that makes maidens swoon whenever I enter the room.

Optimal? Probably not, but I'm doing it because... @#%^ yeah!

Battlemage would necessitate some sort of magicka drain effect on your weapon I would think. Going robes makes melee a bad idea otherwise, because you can get diced up pretty bad. But if your enchanting is high enough, it may make getting robes pointless...(except the Archmage one!)

In my experience, magic regeneration+% is meh during combat. Instead, I'd go with an MP Absorb weapon and Spell Cost-%.

How far in until we can get the first house? I am sure getting tired lugging quite a bit of ore around and I have a nasty habit of collecting ore like each chunk is a very inactive but loveable pokemon.

After you kill your first dragon in the main quest (or maybe after recovering the dragon stone?), you are able to buy your house in Whiterun for 5000g. I have only bought a house in Whiterun, so I cannot comment about the other cities. Other cities might have houses for sale immediately.

You pretty much need to trigger certain questlines for housing. Some are free and others cost. And I can think of one that comes with a huge reward that you spend most of in order to renovate the housing in the first place. :D

Went more of the Paladin route myself (without the righteousness)- Alteration and Restoration magic combined with a sword and shield. Of course, with such a ridiculously high damage weapon, I might as well just drop the shield and dual wield.

I think you underestimate the power of the board. With Deadly Bash my shield hits like a truck on bash. It basically is dual wielding except with lots of extra block. Plus with the stagger meditated fus boost word I stun the crap out of mobs with shield bash. I saw earlier you don't power attack or bash becuase of stamina but I never run out of stamina. I have been balancing Stam and Health every other level and ignoring magica since I can always top off with dual wield healing and that the only magic I use on this toon besides enchants and shouts.

My Fights are swing/Block/Bash/Swing repeat depending on mob strength then it's dead for the most part now. But sometimes I just shield bash something dead to save charges on my fire enchant sword.

Edited to add: Conditioning (Heavy Armor weighs nothing and does not slow you down when worn) which I just got rules!

It's more of an issue with one shotting everything with my sword... though I do like my shield as I find it makes combat more interesting. Well timed bashes make fighting sooo much easier... especially against enemies with Fus Ro Dah. I'm the only one that should be able to use that! Smiley: mad

Also, not sure what I did, but it states my sword deals 251 damage and deals Frost and Shock damage for enchantments as suggested... 31 damage from each.

Hehe yeah I just did a quest in Whiterun where I had to kill some bandits at Silent Moons Camp and when I went to turn it in Proventus Avenicci gave me the option to buy a house in town. I almost miss the way Oblivion gave the option to buy a town if you had the cash yet still gave the option for a really cheep house if you wanted to put a bit of work into it. That is probably the only big thing about Oblivion I miss though. Smiley: tongue

Last night I purchased the Whiterun home, and ran around taking every item I could get my hands on to sell to get money for purchasing the upgrades. Then tonight I realized, I can do work! Cutting firewood, for 5 gold per piece of wood. Talk about a waste of time lugging loot back and forth. Today I used the wood cutting to finish off the last few upgrades.

Before I knew it, it was almost 1:30 am. Need to sleep to get ready for a long day of playing tomorrow. And Sunday...

I've been doing so much better since I gave up on trying 1h + magic. Dual wielding is awesome, but I also have a shield for certain enemies.

Also, I'm using daggers for obvious reasons - though I didn't think they qualified for the 1h sword perk. Was I wrong? Either way, I think the points are better invested in other trees than just crit chance.

How do you use your off-hand weapon when dual-wielding? Seems like you can't swing with both weapons except when using the power attack.

Dual-wield, man... how does it work?

There are so many awesome magic talents spread throughout the trees that I'm torn about what to get first. Also, does anyone know if a healing spell with the perk to heal stamina as well will work if your health is full? Also, will you get skillups for them?

Anyway, I'm thinking I'm gonna go say hi to the greybeards sometime soon. I squee'd when I first heard they were gonna be in the game.

I know what you did. You broke the game! You might want to consider turning up the difficulty. Smiley: tongue

And Idigg doo eet. The greybeards hook you up with some pretty helpful stuff. On my next play through I won't put that off so long.

Really? Nice.

Also, I just checked out that one port town (Dawnstar, maybe? The one where everyone is tired) and they got attacked by two dragons in a row. lol, they just can't catch a break. Good thing I was there to steal their souls...

Uhhh... use the right mouse button? I alternate them pretty quickly and it works pretty well.

Is it like shield bashing where if you hold the left trigger down it blocks but if you click right again it swings/bashes? I play with a 360 controller on PC so that's how the triggers work for me. (Gives me a nice rest from WASD carpel damage MMO's have done to me over the last 10 years)

I honestly have never tried dual wielding yet either. Picked up my shield and stuck with it.

In my game I actually rebound the controls for attacking. Now my left hand is bound to my left click, and right hand to the right click. It makes more sense to me than the backwards way they had it when I first booted it up. Smiley: oyvey

The thing about dual wielding for me is it's kind of just "OH GOD SPAMSPAMSPAM DIE ALREADY" while trying not to get hit.

This intrigues me. What are these 0 magicka shenanigans you speak of?

Edit: Found it.

It's like the 100% chameleon trick in Oblivion. Mass amounts of reduced cost of Destruction or whatever school you want.
