While combat isn't the main draw for me towards Elder Scrolls games, I do think they could have done more with it. At least the weapons have more of a feel than in Oblivion, but I don't see why they couldn't do something more with it. I'd like to see more fluid animations for swinging a weapon multiple times in a row.

I know it's a third person view game, but Dark Souls (and [i]Demon's Souls[i] before it) made a simplistic combat mechanic (light attack, heavy attack with a couple directional attacks) pretty enjoyable.

Also, I want spear + shield. Smiley: glare

I just 2x Sneak Arrowed someone off a bridge. That was made me giggle.

It apparently made me Engrish, too.

Sneak Arrow is pretty badass. I took out a boss with it because he decided to focus on Lydia while I repeatedly shot him in the back.

Sneak arrowing people off things has been my absolute favorite thing to do, ever since I offed a bandit who was singing a song about killing people, sending him toppling over the edge of the tower he was guarding.

All I do is sneak arrow people with the 3x perk it's pretty damn awesome.

Another little thing about that arrow bug I found, if you reload a save, quit and come back into a saved game it will fix itself and you'll need to reequip different arrows.

Couple things of note, while doing some quest last night I happened across a book that gives me the quest for Forbidden Legend so I figured lets go treasure hunting! I've done two of the three parts of the quest the last part is to get into Saarthal which appears you need a key from the mage guilds quest, but! In doing the first two parts I was able to get some of the weapons the bosses drop. One was a 34 damage magic bow which I recently picked up the arcane armorer perk and was able to smith to like 40+ damage (I cannot remember for the life of me what it was called!) I have this absolutely ridiculous high damage bow now and I'm just sniping things like its no one business.

PS: Smithing was the best thing I've ever put perks into.

EDIT @ Locke: It's the arrows you had equipped, you can actually pick them up after shooting them. I'll have to test it tonight now to see if you can basically give yourself unlimited arrows.

I have Krosis and Vokun. I didn't realize these guys were considered "Dragon Priests", but I do know that they're the toughest enemies I've faced. I might have to go hunting for the others now.

Also, got my smithing up to 93. Gonna finish it up when I get home then make my dragon scale set (sans headpiece which I randomly found in a giant's chest while running around hunting for souls) so I can get back to questing :D.

It's not. I've never carried nor used steel arrows (used Iron until I got Nord, then threw the iron ones out), but I often find 1-2 in my inventory after taking some shots from enemies. The only other way it could happen is picking them up off the ground and not noticing; but that seems unlikely, as I always carefully choose what to pick up.

In the same way that some enemies you hit with arrows will have them in their inventory, when you're hit with arrows by an enemy, it will occasionally appear in your inventory. It was the same in Oblivion.

I like to imagine an arrow embedding itself into my mage's forehead, him yanking it out, shrugging, wiping it off, and sticking it in his pocket.

I'm taking my new character through both the college and the Companions (originally it was going to just be the college, but since my PS3 deleted the last save, I decided to just go through the companions as a caster).

I'm playing as a Breton. People asking if I'm sick is going to get old, fast. Especially since his skin is darker than my Nord's had been. Also, he ended up looking extremely Turkish. A lot like a fusion of Altair, Ezio and this guy, actually. But he has a more intense beard.

This is exactly the reaction I had when I realized that class schedule changes for the start of next week freed up more time for me.

Quick Tip:

At the very top of the Throat of the World even higher than Parthanax. I found a magic pickaxe with + smithing results enchant (Makes your armor turn out stronger) in front of a Ebony Ore vein.

I'm afraid to break it down becuase it's just such a cool random thing. So I am still keeping my eyes out for a pair of smithing gloves. Also there are potions to increase smithing results.

Oh, and useful link is useful. It's a list of the guardian stones and their effects. People who don't mind learning stuff outside of the game would do well to check this out.

Examples of why this is useful:
Say you are going to be clearing a bunch of enemies out of a dungeon. You are probably gonna want a combat or skill-buff guardian stone. So either the 20% buff to a school, 15% buff to all, or maybe the damage protection or magicka regen buff, etc. So now you come out the other side, but you had to leave a lot behind, right?

That's fine, go back through using a skill to buff your carrying weight!

And if you are really obsessed with efficiency, you can go through again after that with a thief skill buff to get the most from lockpicking. And if there's an expert lock in there you can't pick, you can grab an ability to do that from a stone.

And you might have found some tasty crafting goods, right? Well, fast travel to the stones outside Riverwood and grab the relevent buff and then go craft it up.

Now, you just grab the Thief buff and sell it all, enjoying your speech skillups.

To be fair, 20% is a pretty huge buff. So this isn't really all that crazy, as long as you do it properly and do things in bulk. I wouldn't grab the Warrior buff to craft one dagger, for instance. I would grab it if I was crafting 3-5, though.

Etc.

I'm going to find all the stones I care about as soon as I get home. Then I might go check out some Daedric Shrines. Have to see how my bfflkin Nocturnal is doing, and if she has another awesome goody for me this time.

They're not telling you you look sick because you're Breton. They're telling you you look sick because you got diseased by something and didn't realize it. Drink a Cure Disease potion (or get a god shrine buff).

If you check the wiki, you can actually see the skill thresholds for various items. The highest is Legendary, but damage/armor buffs will vary hugely from the start of the legendary tier to the top of it. I don't know if you can continue to buff gear after you hit a tier, so I would advise waiting to upgrade your endgame gear until you have capped smithing, a serious smithing gear set, and the best smithing potions you can make.

...

Oh.

That's actually a little surprising, since I tend to use my summons pretty aggressively to distract enemies from attacking me.

But thanks. At least I can be confident it's not the vampire one.

lol, nope. But a little bit of googling revealed to me that it was involved in it. I also found out about my favorite Daedric artifact.

But I don't intend to do the Thieves' guild on this character (and I'm not starting another toon until the save bug is fixed) so she's gonna have to wait.

Makes me realize actually...what difficulty setting is everyone playing on?

I wasn't sure how rough things would be, so I left it on whatever the default was. (I think Adept?)

Somehow, I think I walked right past that thing. I even mined the ore up there, and never even saw it.

I gather that it's called the "Notched Pickaxe". Supposedly a reference to Notch, of Minecraft fame.

Yeah playing on Adept(default). But at level 28 I am already starting to feel OP sometimes. Earlier on I occasionally ran into a WTF strong something but not as much now. Going to probally keep it adept though for the first play through. I will most likely crank it up for play 2 but the scaling is hard to predict in such a non linear game like this.

Well non linear the way I play it. Since I like to wander allot in between picking up parts of the main quest line again.

Yeah Notched Pickaxe was it! For some reason the thing just tickles my fancy as something to love and cherish. I mean who does't want a magical pickaxe.

It's not just wandering that will get you into those oh-sh*t moments. A lot of quests from Whiterun will send you to some really difficult places, and that's super early. Hell, good luck clearing the saber cat caves for the companion quest if you are a magic user. Those teeth HURT--they ripped through my Oakflesh spell and all 3 early destruction spells barely scratched them.

Adept for now, when I play through a second time it will be harder.
