Notable for me is that Amnesia is on sale, which is a fantastically atmospheric horror game. Also, the Painkiller pack is about $5 I think, and it's supposed to have good action in it.

Best of all, of course, is that you can get the Railworks DLC Trains vs Zombies.

Yeah, Amnesia is a must play for anyone interested in a proper horror game.

I've got that one but haven't tried it yet. Everyone says to play it undisturbed and with headphones if possible but my home life isn't conducive to playing in a terror bubble.

It's true. Play it when the kids are in bed, turn the lights off and put the headphones on. You don't need to devote huge playing blocks to it, i could really only handle about 30-45 min of the stress at a time. Granted i was really immersed.

Off Amnesia (since I own it), I was thinking about the two-game STALKER bundle for $8.75. I know they're a little dated but for under $5 a game, I figure they can't be too much of a let down.

I'm tempted by the stalker packs too, I remember a buddy of mine at work played one of them and liked it. I'll ask him after lunch for more details.

I think I might pick up Borderlands too for something to tool around with since that was in my "missed it" while playing MMO's list. THe bad part of this though si that I still have games I have not finished from the summer sale. Oo

Party becuase some of them I got about halfway though, got bored and quit. Was just playing Bioshock 2 last night after remembering I got that on summer sale.

The single player campaign is not good?

I still have Batman: Arkham Asylum and Fallout 3 (& New Vegas) to keep me amused until the Christmas sale. And a bunch of non-plot-based games like Company of Heroes, the Humble Bundle stuff, etc.

The single player campaign is the same as the co-op campaign. It's hard for me to explain why it's not fun, maybe because its just not that interesting solo, but I originally bought Borderlands on xbox when a friend came to visit from out of town. We played it nonstop. When he left, i played it about 20 minutes and never touched it again. later I bought it again on a steam sale and put another 126 hours into co-op, and if you knew me you'd know that kinda of mileage from a non-mmo game is insane.

A really well rated, but often overlooked game. I thought it was a wonderful RTS. If you end up playing it and liking the playstyle, the Warhammer 40k Dawn of War series (just skip the first game and get DoW2) plays similarly and is much much better imo.

The only part of Borderlands I didn't like was how certain fights feel like they were designed around two players and were annoying to try to solo. For example the Rakkhive I was spending most of my time killing the dang rakk's it kept spawning and very little of my time was spent chipping away from it's large health pool and this was on normal. Overall though I enjoyed the game and it's uniqueness despite it's flaws.

I will certainly look into this bundle.

the bosses were way too easy, with the exception of crawmerax. Most bosses had unavoidable glitches that made them trivial.

I only played as Lilith, but I didn't find any boss fight hard. For the Rakkhive, just kill the Rakks with a machine gun of some form and snipe and rocket launch the hive between groups. Of course, I didn't stand around down in that big open area to fight it, I went up on to the ledge so the Rakks could only come at me from one direction.

The boss fight that annoyed me the most was the one where the guy you need to kill is up at the top of a canyon with a rocket launcher/machine guy contraption. It didn't annoy me because it was hard, but because one shot from my acid based triple rocket launcher of doom was enough kill him both times I played through the game. Then I had to climb all the way up there to get my loot off of his corpse.

i picked up the painkiller and stalker bundles.

<3 amnesia. the penumbra collection is by the same guys and has more of a scifi bent to it. i fired up penumbra when i hit a stumbling block in amnesia.... turned it off as soon as i heard the first wolf howl.

also..... vampire the masquerade: bloodlines is a steal at $5. the hotel is super creepy and it's got a great supporting cast of characters.

I didn't really get that impression much. A bunch of fights were definitely much easier with two people, but that wasn't one of them. When I did it solo, I just ignored the rakks. They aren't that damaging, and if you have a decent shield, it'll recharge to full before the next wave of them hits.

That said, Borderlands is much more fun co-op. I've never been able to work out exactly why that is, because the dynamics of the fights don't change terribly much, but there's something about having somebody there to see the awesome kill you just pulled off, or to swap equipment with, that makes it much more interesting. Borderlands solo has never held my attention ever since I did my first co-op playthrough.

I played through amnesia before I had heard of the penumbra games. They aren't bad but, but I thought amnesia was better.
As far as the dogs in penumbra, I actually discovered that if you can get on a tall enough box (if you have to hop on something else to get on the box, then it's tall enough), you can smack them with your hammer. If you do enough damage they fall down, and then run away for a bit. Of course, you can also just hop off the box and beat them while they are still getting up, and if you hit them 3 times they'll just fall back down. Instead of sneaking our way through these levels I just killed all the dogs in most of the levels that I've gotten to so far. Unfortunately, this discovery made the dogs far less scary.

I keep going back and forth on Stalker (I don't feel like cap'ing it any more). It ain't amazing but it ain't bad, either and I keep playing it. Definitely harder than Far Cry 2 was (last FPS I played). Granted, some (most) of that is probably me sucking but the early weapons at least are sh*t for accuracy and damage but you get torn up quickly if you just stand in the open and fire or try to rush the enemy. There's a lot of reloading the game going on. And flanking to try and get close enough from the side/behind to pop someone in the head with any degree of success.

But for $4.75 or whatever it worked out to, I sure can't complain. This is for Shadow of Chernobyl; I can't speak yet for how the sequel plays.

Edit: Also picked up Cthulhu Saves the World and Vampire: the Masquerade.

Moderately close to on topic post incoming.

I've been playing TF2 the last couple of days. They've got all the maps done up with Halloween stuff, with a bunch of Halloween themed items up for grabs.

If anyone else picked up Stalker, you're going to want to get the "Complete" mod. Lots of tweaks and fixes without changing the core game and a massive graphics overhaul.
