I'm using the winged spear right now. It's nice, because I get to hide behind my shield, but man do I use a lot of stamina...

Spears have a very fast attack so it's easy to get carried away and use up all your stamina leaving you open for a big hit with no way of dodging or blocking.

Groups are becoming especially problematic. With an attack that uses so much stamina, it's hard to face them and remain unstaggered.

Yeah, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting fireball to hit multiple mobs. Maybe it'll work better once I have a wider spell?

Also, Combustion casts faster and can hit multiple targets. Don't forget that casting doesn't cost stamina. If you've upgraded your hand you should be pumping out decent enough damage.

Just get a bow with cheap wooden arrow. If you take your time and pull them from a distance to a safe spot, you rarely have to fight more than one mob at a time. I can't remember dying because I got overwhelm by too many mobs(except in new londo ruins but that's another story). I might be overcautious but it's better be safe than sorry with this game.

I strongly recommend Darkroot garden before Blight town and even before The depth. It's not part of the "normal" progression but it's easy enough to tackle right after the first bell. You'll get souls some nice loot and the moss will be a life saver when you get to Blight town. From the hidden bonfire there's 6-7 spawns for the tree things that drop the moss and they have a good drop rate. You can easily get a dozen of the red and purple moss and maybe 5-6 white moss in half an hour or less. You should bring a lot of the purple and white moss in Blight town. The last thing you want is to be stuck in there with no way to cure poison or toxin.

Duly noted!

In my experience, you're typically going to kill things using the shield/spear combo with a death by 1000 paper cuts. Take your time. Use a lot of feints...take a few steps in to prompt the enemies to attack, and then get a couple hits in.

Positioning is very important. Lure enemies into tight hallways, or otherwise try to keep them in a line or echelon. If possible, you should try to sidestep first, roll second, and block only as a last resort or when you know it'll unbalance the enemy and you can spare the stamina. You don't always have to attack from behind the shield...mix in some 2-handing and regular attacks too.

I have more Endurance than my room mate, and I can really tell the difference when I watch him play.

He has trouble shielding against stronger attacks, they go right through and hit his HP.

I bummed around Darkroot Garden/Basin aimlessly for a while after ringing the first bell, and found it to be pretty reasonable for my level. Killed the Hydra and Moonlight Butterfly. You get some nice gear (Elite Knight's Armor and Grass Shield, in my case, perhaps even more), level up a bit, and get some unique souls.

Considering how awful things purportedly get from here (I left things off cursed, having returned to the first bonfire in the depths; the one behind the slimes) I'd say the diversion was worthwhile. I suspect I'm going to hate Blight Town.

I found the Depths to be fairly easy, personally. Also, for poison, you can get the remedy spell in Blight Town, so I didn't have much trouble with that. And the Pyromancer's set has some fairly decent poison resistance to start out with, if you have that. The only annoying part were those toxin blowdart guys, and if you kill them, they don't seem to respawn.

When pulling, it's often safer to pull the further one in a staggered group, so that the others turn away from you at the sound, rather than turning towards you and seeing you.

My roommate is having the same trouble. I can straight up tank things he really has to completely avoid. Add in my secondary focus in vitality, and our playstyles really couldn't be more different.

Yeah, I've taken the more defensive route. High Endurance, Vitality, Resistance.

One room mate is mainly a spellcaster, he Focused on Intelligence, Attunement and Faith.
The other went for Strength and Endurance, so he's probably the best off between us.

I just got the Lordvessel, this is going to be... exciting >____________>

So... Lost Izalith sucks balls.

I haven't found a bonfire, so I have to keep running past these weird giant things through lava, then past fire breathing statues to get to the boss.

Bright glowing red and orange is definitely not the easiest thing to navigate Smiley: crymore

More tales from the adventures of Croaker the Wanderer:

"Ick, it's all murky in these woods. The trees are freaking alive, snakes somehow have two heads, and there's mud all up in my boots. Can't wait to get the hell... oohhh, I see treasure in the distance!

Hmm, those are some interesting stone formations. Must be the ruins of some old structure. Wait a second, why are the stone ruins moving, and why are they carrying a sword and shield?

Ack, giant stone knight! Oh well, he looks like he'll be slower than frozen molasse;, I'll just take off the armor and pwn him like I pwned Havel the Rock. Hmm, he's glowing; that can't be good. Hey, why am I all slow?

That only works if you have the INT(16) to use it though. I'm pure melee or I was back when I went through Blight town. I personally didn't have any problem with Blight town. I only died on the boss and only got poisoned while crossing the swamp but I can see someone having trouble and running out of moss then dying and being returned to the bonfire in the swamp. That would suck.

I'm not 100% sure since I just got there but can't you use a shortcut back to the hidden bonfire near the second bell after the Firesage Demon?

Pretty much exactly what happened to me. Smiley: frown

I found though, that even armored up, and slowed by their spell, that I was still able to circle strafe around them, blocking the occasional attack.

You can just run past all of them to the ruins of that fort in on the left side of the area, though. Just don't forget the armor that's in the back of that clearing.

Again, this is an area where Pyromancy really shines. Since casting doesn't cost stamina, it makes it really easy to keep you shield up with full (or close to full) stamina, and just Combustion them. I farmed them and the trees to get the 20k souls to open the nice farming area.

I was running from a bonfire right after you kill the Centipede Demon.

I gave up and looked it up, there's actually a hidden bonfire that was closer. Once I got there, and saw how easy it was to kill the boss, Izalith isn't that bad I guess.

So... I think there's a glitch with the Crystal Ring Shield.

It's a magical shield that you can use as a ranged magic attack with L2, but it seems to base its damage off your Right hand weapon... >______________>

A room mate is using the Dragon King Greataxe with the Shield, and doing insane damage with it.
(He 3 shotted Smough).

So I'm expecting a patch sometime to fix this, lol.

That's exactly how it works. It's crap if you try to use it in your right hand.

Yeah... that doesn't seem as intended though.

The Shield has its own damage rating, but it doesn't seem to matter.
