Stray Demon gave me the most trouble out of any boss thus far. Not because he's particularly difficult, but because half of my attempts ended with me dead before I even got a chance to roll after the drop.

I just beat him as well, after about four straight tries in which I dropped down, rolled away from an axe swing, and get face-melted by the subsequent magic explosion. Once you get behind him, it's almost laughable how easy he is.

In fact, I'm a little disappointed by several of the boss fights thus far. For example, after dying twice to the Gaping Dragon, I easily beat him without taking a single hit. Same with the Hydra; the hardest part of the fight is getting into melee range, but once you do that, it's almost boring.

Considering the trouble I had with the Belltower Gargoyles, I was expecting better from the later bosses (although I may recant that statement once I start exploring Anor Londo, the Catacombs, and the rest of Darkroot Garden).

Like demon's souls, the bosses are not the toughest part. The challenge is getting to the boss.

I had a couple rough goes at Quelaag, but they're just about learning the mechanics and not ******** up. I'm sure on NG++++ or so, when their moves just all one-shot you, they'll be more challenging. Smiley: lol

I've been helping with Quelaag a bunch, but now I just cheap it with Iron Flesh.

Yeah, for me, the difficulty has all been in approaching the boss. Capra killed me 3 times in a row by pinning me in the entrance with his dogs. Once I got rid of the dogs and had some room to move, he was pretty simple. Hydra killed me a couple of times with its long range attacks, then became piece of cake at melee range (albeit one that took a while). Same for the lightening demon behind the blacksmith.

I don't think one of them has killed me once I've closed the distance and started the fight proper.

Stray Demon gave me quite a scare when I revisited the Asylum. Tried to kill him just a couple of times without success (I was having trouble telling when his magic attack was going off, and whether or not I was within its range). Might give him another go next time I fire the game up.

If it's like Demon's souls, there's a 40% increase in difficulty between NG and NG+ then an increase of 8% for NG++ up to NG7+.

So far the difficulty increase is underwhelming to say the least. I made it to the 1st bell in less than an hour. I even 1-shotted the asylum demon and by that I mean I killed him in 1 hit. I know he's just the tutorial boss and he was pretty easy in NG but still ... 1 hit?

I'm hoping it will get harder cause it seems pointless right now...

I am thinking about making a couple new characters. I want to play a INT or FAI class, and I want to roll a Pyro and keep him as low as possible for PvP. Smiley: lol

I think I want to get to like level 20-25ish for PvP, get the Gold-hemmed set and troll the Depths.

I would think that pyromancers wouldn't be all that effective at PvP. Their fireballs have a limited range, the cast time is several seconds, and they're relatively weak besides.

Either that or imdoinitrong.

I just like the pyro starting stat layout. I'll probably just play as an ******* backstabby character.

I pretty much use Combustion/Great Combustion from my pyro spells (Iron Flesh is set too, in case I pull way to many mobs or need to cheap a boss fight). Also, you can start casting Fireball while on the move, but you're right that you're still exposed the whole time.

Biggest annoyance to date: how the camera moves around architecture in the background as you're passing it. Generally, not a big issue, but when you're walking razor-thin railings above a 10-story drop, and the camera wiggles to the left to move around a pillar, causing you to walk "forward" right off the rail and fall to your grisly death, it's rather frustrating.

You can turn that off in the options, but yeah, I understand your pain.

It's killed me a couple of times in the Hollow Tree.

Combustion is rather effective in PVP low level(at least, it's been my mainstay when I get invaded), especially if you've upgraded your flame. The fact that you cast it fairly quickly with no cost to stamina allows you to be fairly defensive with your shield while still being an aggressive attacker.

Started my new character, even though I'm nowhere near done with my original. Things are going a lot faster now that I know what to do and where to go. Tried the tutorial area a bit early, but the black knight there was kicking my ***. I guess 10 is a little low. Smiley: lol Though maybe with a round shield I could get some ripostes in.

So apparently I ran into a Vagrant last night. I had no idea what it was (looked like a weird glowy crab thing), and got 1-shot by it because I didn't see it shoot these big spikes out of its back as they landed on me. :(

I've never seen one.

What level are you?

My new character is at 25, and is past my level 60 character. Smiley: lol It really flies by on your second runthrough. One-shotted Blighttown solo.

I might go back for that red cloth set. I'll have to see how it upgrades. Gold-hemmed set is really nice, but since it can't be upgraded, I'm sure there are better light armor options. Also, this run-through, I just killed the dude who kills the Firekeeper at Firelink. Sure, I'll miss out on the whole quest stuff, but getting that ring so early has really been awesome. Combined with Havel's Ring, I can wear whatever I want and still be under 50% burden.

There might be but I didn't find anything better. It has probably the best fire and poison resistance and only heavy armor have better defense. I'm not crazy about the look but it's the best set when you compare the stats/weight ratio.

SL 20. According to my reading they just appear when someone in that area dies with a high number of humanity/souls. They are good/evil based on the area and that affects their appearance (maybe drops / attacks, not sure).

Oooh, what boss/area are you on? (Also, PS3 or XBOX?) I can help with bosses and stuff soon. I think you'd need to be 23.

XBOX. I am still making my way through the Undead Parish. I spent some time in the burg farming and getting a little better at the game, so I might be not as far ahead as you'd think.

Oh, I'm on PS3 so I can't help anyway. :/

I helped with Gaping Dragon for a while last night, and farmed upgrade mats and humanity. 25 seems like a prime level for it; I was getting summons usually within 5-10 minutes. Ended up with almost 250k souls by the time I got bored.

How does one do that? Just go human and wait for a summon thing to appear? Where is it?

Also, where do I get more humanity? -_-

Rats in The Depths drop it with relative frequency. Between them and the jellies, it's a decent farming area.

Spoilers ahead regarding summoning: Back across the bridge where the dragon is (towards the Burg, the opposite side of the bridge from where the dragon is perched), there is a guy who talks about helping each other out and gives you the White Soapstone, which you use to place your marker in order to be summoned (I think you need to have acquired it before you can summon others, too).
  • In order to summon someone, you must be human, and the area boss must be alive.
  • You can summon or be summoned by someone whose Soul Level is +- 10% of your own SL.
  • It really depends on the area, where people put their signs down. I like to put mine down right at a bonfire, but many people put their sign outside the boss. I like to help run someone through the level.
  • Sometimes, if I'm having a really tough time with an area, I'll put my summon sign down to help someone else out, but my motivation is actually learning the level. You can put a summon sign down if you are hollow or human, doesn't matter.

  • For the Undead Parish, if you haven't beaten the boss yet, people usually put their summon signs just outside the fog wall. 20 might be a tad high to find a helper with that one, but should be just fine for the next boss.

Regarding Humanity, you can get it from having your messages rated up, or as a rare drop from some mobs. Rats drop it, and there's an easy farm area when you get down into the Depths, right near the mobs you can farm for Large Titanite Shards. I think there's a better place to farm it later in the game, but that's probably the first place that it's convenient to do so at. Also, there's a vendor who sells Humanity at 8k/ea.
