I didn't have a problem with it.

GLaDOS wasn't Caroline, GLaDOS was a separate AI (invented for a de-icing machine) who had Caroline uploaded into her. Caroline's "psyche" was repressed, except for maybe feeding GLaDOS's obsession with science, until she hears the Cave Johnson recordings. From there, she makes subtle influences on GLaDOS until the final fight when Caroline makes herself obvious by saving you. GLaDOS can now delete Caroline* and, in doing so, realizes that it's easier to just let you leave than risk dying again trying to kill you. Besides, she has her bots for experimenting.

*GLaDOS was also unaware of her black box function and is originally unaware of the purpose of the cores in Portal, so it's not surprising that she didn't just know who/where Caroline was or how to get rid of her.

That's actually pretty much what I got out of it. Smiley: lol Mostly because of the part where Cave Johnson is speaking to Caroline at one part while GLaDOS is the potato battery, and she says somthing to the effect of, "Caroline where do I know that name?? Why do I-- Wait. I have to think for a while." Then she goes quiet for a while. Then later you find out that she and Caroline are sort of sharing a computer.

I thoroughly enjoyed Weatley, too. Smiley: lol

Interesting little side note. When you play through the co-op you discover that Glados is becoming more and more bored with her two robot testers. By the end of the co-op you are helping her unlock a vault where there are a bunch of clones of you.

I'm afraid to do the co-op mode. I don't want to **** anyone off. Smiley: lol

I'd be happy to try it except that I can't commit to any sort of schedule to plow through it.

Thread reminded me of one of cracked.com's list of hidden Easter eggs(think it was that one not 100% sure). Portal had some good ones and some ones that clearly showed some people have a lot of spare time and think way out the box.

I like how the responses are people ******** over the word "gratis".

This should have happened a week ago when I started my older kid on playing Portal on the old computer. I would have made him his own Steam account.

Anyone know: If I made said account and "bought" the game, could I launch the existing copy with the saved games, etc? Or would it require a fresh install?

Steam would install it in a new directory with different saves. However, I believe all the saved data is stored locally so you should b able to just copy your save game file over on his location should you want to.

I'm having a hard reason thinking of a reason you'd want to do that though, as there really isn't any benefit to having access to a completed save file.

Because he's largely through the game. Of course, he can just finish the one he's had on my Steam account but that defeats the point of getting him his own account and own copy. Basically, I was seeing if it was worth it.

You misunderstood him. He isn't giving his kid his own completed save game, he wants to transfer the progress his kid has already made to the new account.

And yes, that should be very possible.

I just found out that the chick who does the voice for GLaDOS is an opera singer from Nashville, TN.

man, oh man. in the last couple of days i

  • bowled through portal 2
  • loaded up my last portal save from may 2010
  • realized i was very close to the end, played a bit and saved
  • got my son started on portal 2
  • rapped his knuckles for fncking up wasd movement
  • told him the cameras weren't evil, but glados was watching him
  • chuckled as he put a portal behind every camera, detaching them from the wall
  • said, 'no i won't play this part for you' 100x
  • made tacos, and fired up portal 1
  • made three jumps then beat glados with my kid giving pointers
  • turned the kb&m back over
  • said, 'no i won't play this part for you' another 100x
  • took the list feature for a spin
  • apologized for being too braindead to think about grammar

holy cow, the look on his face when glados called him a piece of garbage and a horrible person, and the part where wheatley turned against him was so funny.

i got the urge so bad to build a new pc for skyrim, lotr:witn, and gw2 that i think i might justify it with a portal 2 co-op campaign with my kid.

oh yeah, i also had to look up the solution for the puzzle where you have to shoot the blue portal at the moon. i was stuck there so long i thought the game glitched out on me.
