Nothing nonsensical about centuries later a male beast, the last of his kind (which is a fact the game hammers into your skull pretty early on), running through a field with his children? So, what? There was a female hiding somewhere? He asexually reproduced?

I hold the belief that Cloud didn't arrive in Hojo's lab in time, and Hojo's little experiment between Aeris/th and Red XIII had some unseen minutes there. Before her untimely demise, the offspring were released and in a Seahorse/Kangaroo type setup, the young were latched onto a hidden pouch on Red XIII until they came to full size.

Various images that can be found on the internet seem to support this theory.

You'll be able to time travel in FFXIII-2.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Time Travel System Detailed

Quote:
Dengeki PlayStation has a few new gameplay and story bits on Final Fantasy XIII-2 this week.

The big revelation is that the game will have a time travel component. While it was revealed in last week's issue of Weekly Shounen Jump that main character Noel is from the future, Dengeki's report suggests that you'll be able to freely travel back and forth through time.

This is part of the game's "Historiacross" system. Each area of the game world has a "gate." Activate it, and the Historiacross appears in the area. Using the Historiacross, you can select the location or era to which you'd like to travel next.

Some areas have multiple gates, and depending on the gate you're currently using, you'll be able to access different areas. Triggering the gates requires "O Parts." Finding these requires help from your Moogle companion.

Dengeki shows a screen of the "gate view," where you select your next location. In the example shown in the magazine, you're able to select from Bresha Ruins AF0005. You can also select to save and access the main menu. The screen also lists "Fragment 0/8," although there's no explanation for what this is.

Another set of screens shows the transformation of Bresha Ruins over time. In AF005, two years after the events of the game, it's green and full of life. Years later, in AF300, it's become a wasteland.

It's not clear how the game's time mechanics will work. However, the time element is a central part of the story. Noel has come from far in the future, where he's the last remaining human. He hopes to change the future, and and appeared before Serah. He tells Serah that he met her sister, FFXIII main character Lightning, and suggests that Lightning may be waiting for her.

Lightning finally gets a full introduction in this week's issue. In XIII-2, she's a knight who guards the shrine of the goddess Etro in Valhalla. She's become an existence close to that of a deity.

A screenshot shows Lightning riding her summon Odin and fighting Bahamut and Chaos. Other screens show two fields, Valhalla and Etro's shrine.

There are some things in that are potentially very large spoilers. It should be treated accordingly.

The Time Travel thing is either going to be really awesome or really stupid...

Unfortunately, so far it feels like it might be really stupid, unless they let you travel (if you can survive it) to other locations in each time period instead of being locked in to one area near each gate. If they have 13 different time periods, they'd better deliver at least 13 full maps (with the future ones subject to changes due to decisions made in the past ones), not 13 variations of the same small area around a gate.

I thought non-wild chocobos do not have that extra bit of feather coming down from their face. If I remember correctly that theme park cities chocobos did not feature them.

Hope looks like he finally is better dressed.(I even hated his clothes in XIII hahaha) If he is playable hopefully he doesn't manage to be epically annoying like in XIII. At this point it looks like he will just be an important npc but who knows.

Both the Gold Saucer and a dude dressed like Cloud Strife? Even my interest in the game has dropped.

Wait... so the people discover they were too reliant on technology and the fal'cie, find themselves in a situation for a second chance, and say "f*ck it, let's remake Cocoon on Pulse"?

Huh.

Anyone remember when Versus XIII was still a thing people talked about?

Yeah, me neither. It was so long ago.

Which is sad, because I was excited to see what they'd do with it. I liked the concept a lot (okay, mostly the setting).

This demo makes me want to murder Mog the Moogle.

Actually, it's not that bad- just Mog's voice is atrocious to me.

And it wouldn't be a JRPG without a character with a horrible annoying voice.

I kinda agree. Final Fantasy XIII was pretty meh although at least it was better than Final Fantasy XII. Honestly ever since Squaresoft merged with Enix they have went downhill IMO. When this game is in the $20 bin (which I suspect won't take long) I might pick it up. I never did bother finishing Final Fantasy XIII though. Got to a hard boss and lost interest and quit about middle of game.

Uninteresting main character, even less interesting main villain, weak supporting cast, mediocre at best story, lack of art direction are the reasons I was never a fan of 7. The most infuriating thing was that ending with Red XIII that made absolutely no sense at all. Nothing I haven't said before when the topic comes up.

I also tend to notice that amongst 7's praises, it being the person's first Final Fantasy game tends to show up.

FF7 is overrated, but it's still a solid game. Revolutionized both the franchise and the style of the RPG itself, a good challenge, and an overall fun game to play through.

The Final Fantasy series has been dead to me since X-2(most unnecessary sequel ever). They made an online one and gave it a number(I could have accepted it if it had been called simply, "Final Fantasy Online" or something like that), then they made one that threw out all the things I loved about the franchise(I want my goddamn turn-based RPGs back!), then they made one that, as far as I can tell, seems to focus far and away too much on graphics, and not enough on being a good game. Why are graphics important in an RPG? Who the hell plays an RPG for the way it looks? One of my favourite RPGs is Dragon Warrior 2, looks like ****, but it's an amazing game.

My personal favourite is a tie between VIII(my first, if you don't count Mystic Quest, which no one does), and VI. Great gameplay, good stories, amazing re-play potential.

There's been this shift in modern gaming where it seems like it's more important for a game to look good, than it is for the game to actually be good, and I hate it.

Completely subjective. One of the big draws the FF series has always had for me was that they were gorgeous.

True, graphics aren't as important as a good game at its core, but graphics aren't irrelevant. They may be for you, but some people enjoy looking at stuff that's easy on the eyes.

It's nice for things to be easy on the eyes, but the main focus seems to be on that more than gameplay these days. I'm just saying, I'd like a game that's mostly focussed on gameplay and story.

7 is the game that split the fanbase. The majority of people who like 7 hate 4 and 6, and the majority of people who love 4 and 6, hate 7.

I don't remember the combat system of 7, but I believe that's when the combat system started to shift away from the combat system of the older games (I hate the newer combat systems). That's also when the games started to become more restrictive/linear, and sacrifice story/adventure for visual appeal.

If you look at a lot of the arguments, it's clear that the newer gen of FF fans look at 7 as the holy grail of RPGs. The game was decent, but it's not even the best FF.

7 is actually the fist FF I walked away from because of how far it pulled away from the prior FFs. I came back and finished it, but ever since then I've purchased the series based purely on it's name, not its quality (With the exception of X, I liked X).

FF7 used the same ATB system used in FF4, FF5, and FF6 and FF8 and FF9. Even FF10 used a sort of derivative of the ATB system... it was just cleverly hidden.

Everybody says that these days. It's like old people griping about how things used to be when they were kids. The emphasis hasn't changed at all, there's just many more developers now so you're likely to get more people who don't know how to make decent gameplay.
