Thanks for those links guys. The Last Gaurdian looks pretty interesting. Something family friendly to play when the kids are around.

Bastion coming out for XBOX Live Arcade tomorrow, July 20th, is getting some great reviews.

8.5/10 - http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/bastion/review.html

4/5 - http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/bastion-review/

That art is just my style.

Looks like a classic RPG title, single player only. The story is narrated. Reportedly only 6-8 hours long, but does have a new game+ feature.

Planning on playing it tomorrow.

If Batman: Arkham City is on the list, then Captain America: Super Soldier should get a mention. I just picked it up this morning and played it at work, and must say ... it's Batman: Arkham Asylum with less emphasis on stealth and sleuth and more on PUNCHIN' *****. Which, I enjoyed. Can't really say it follows the movie ... cuz I haven't seen the movie yet.

The one downside I've noticed is some of the physics are off. Most notably I punched a vase, and the animation ended and Steve went back to his idle stance and then the vase exploded. I found that a little disheartening in this day and age of gaming.

The upside? SHIELD PHYSICS IS AWESOME. I can throw sniper bullets back at them, stun people by blocking them, smash it into their faces, and best of all I can throw it and bounce it off multiple *****! That has been the most fun I've had with a game in ages, and it's such a little thing. The voice acting is pretty good, and the acrobatics using the environment is as well, though not nearly as fun as Shield Physics.

Can't say this is for everyone. If you enjoyed Batman: AA, then this might be worth your moneys, and doubly so if you're a Captain America fan. If those two things aren't part of your criteria, then look elsewhere.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is now showing on game.co.uk.

It does not have a release date as of yet, but it might be worth adding to the radar.

I am rather excited about this game. After playing it through, XIII is pretty awesome if you read all the codex and make the effort to follow the story. The first time round, I didn't take enough interest in the background and what was going on. This time, I have. And it's brilliant. And we all know how good the battle system is.

*08-01-11* Added Dead Island to the list.

Dead Island - September 6 - (360, PS3, PC) - Official Homepage

While it only has "RPG Elements", it has 4-player co-op zombie killing including:

Quote:
There is an experience system and a skill tree system. There is also a stamina bar, meaning that after a set amount of action with a weapon, the character will need to stop to regain their stamina before continuing to attack.

Also, the screenshots are incredible.

Phantasy star online 2 should be under the mmorpg category.

Since the wiki page has next to nothing here's the official Facebook page which offers several screen shots and information although a lot in Japanese. Alpha tests soon release date slated in 2011 although exact date for Japanese release is unknown. It is assume however unconfirmed whether it will be release outside of Japan or when the localized version will be released.

Sure thing Laxedrane. Thanks for the heads up. I've played the series from the beginning and I can't wait to see the next version.

Playing Phantasy Star is always a great time. The instanced, drop-in drop-out party play is the template that I would prefer for all games!

To date, this is the only game series that I can think of where you can log-in, find a party, beat a boss, grab some loot and log out reliably even if you only have 15 minutes of total play time available.

Thanks Spoonless!

That's too bad. If I had to guess, it looks like they really want to squeek in before Skyrim.

Same reasons I love the series. I've been a fan boy since I played it on the gamecube. Sucks that reason Sonic team behavior been rather unfair to non-Japanese server/audiences.(At least regarding this series in specific especially Phantasy Star Universe) Makes me extremely cautious going into this one which is frustrating since it looks very promising and taking a lot of the good things Universe, portable, and zero brought to the series since the original concept.

Some guy on the internet.

(I think he's from XIV, but I could be wrong)

Regarding this Skyrim jobbie, my only problem with Oblivion that was the combat was bloody boring and archery was very, very difficult. Any idea if they're adding some bullet time type thing to help (a'la Fallout 3)?

Reason being, I am notoriously bad at games, and I die lots. Oblivion was just too hard :(

Huh weird, I don't remember it being hard to aim. In fact I think my archer build was one of my most OP. It's been years since I played Oblivion but I can still remember the 3x sneak attacks with a bow wearing my brotherhood armor and greyfox mask would one shot allot of stuff. And in the arena you could kite anything to death with a bow.

I'll have to agree that archery was pretty difficult in Oblivion compared to a lot of aiming systems used in games these days. You really had to get the enemy to move in a straight line towards you or stop moving completely otherwise even the slow monsters would zigzag too much. Of course, with enough ammo, high speed, and an open area- you could literally kite anything around, as just mentioned.

Watching one of the trailers for Skyrim shows the player aiming a bow targeting a wolf and the wolf looks to be moving sluggishly- so it might be an ability or just part of the game in general.

There is a dragon shout that lets you slow time, so it's possible he used it.

But yeah, the problem with Archery was really that it was essentially useless when:
1. You couldn't get a sneak attack strong enough to kill the opponent (or at least bring its health down quite a bit).
2. You were fighting multiple mobs. Even at max sneak in areas where you were in shadows, mobs always seemed to notice me after I nailed one of them. And I mean like beeline for me, not like they ran around and found me.

[EDIT] I realize adding some Chameleon gear would have helped a lot here, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. For one, it just seemed waaaaaay too cheap (at least at higher values). But more importantly, I hated always looking like I was a mirror. [/EDIT]

All in all, though, I'm REALLY excited for Skyrim. It looks like they've fixed a lot of the issues I had with Oblivion. The new character models, in particular, are amazing. Huge distinction between the different races, argonians actually look like reptiles, khajit like felines, etc.

Oh yeah, and music.

And just because I'm loving this song, here it is again with untranslated (draconic) lyrics, again but with directly translated lyrics, and the version of the song where they sing in English. :P

X-Men: Destiny will be released on the 27th. I like the idea behind it, though I would have appreciated a truly custom character. I can live with a somewhat dynamic power set up. I have a few ideas forming in my head of how I want to build, but until I get to sit down and play I won't know if it's possible or even viable. Let's just say I'm hoping for intuitive sense of spatial geometry between objects.

Who were those three characters? The girl in the miniskirt, the football player and the one with the gun harness that was kicking people?

Oh, but gambit's in the game? That kicks ***.

I guess. If they were going to push it back, I would have pushed it to early/mid-December. You've got to figure that most Oblivion fans are going to be buying Skyrim on release. Pushing WitN to December would make it a prime holiday gift. I'll still be picking it up, though. I've really enjoyed several of Snowblind's other multiplayer titles.

also, witcher 2 on 360 has been pushed back to 2012 at this point... some kind of licensing kerfuffle where both namco/bandai and thq think they have the euro distribution rights.
