I didn't want to necropost in Sandinmygum's thread. I'm looking to swap friend codes for the 3DS. I live in a small town, so Street Pass is pretty much useless to me; I think I'm the only person in town to own a 3DS at this point anyway. The next closest big town (something with over 10k people) is an hour and a half away.

My FC is 3480-2614-6583

I would if I had one. I've been considering getting one but I'm waiting for a few more good games to come out (OOT is not enough). I played one at Best Buy for the first time the other day and was only mildly impressed, although there was only some ship game loaded. I'm really waiting for an NGP to be honest. The major reason I'd buy one now if at all would be to play DS games since I got rid of mine about a year ago.

I want to buy a 3DS. I've been kind of skeptical about it but was able to find a lonely 3DS sitting there waiting to be played at Target so I went over and gave it a whirl. It had Pilot Wings which I loved the 64 game. I thought the 3D graphics looked really good though it took a couple seconds to adjust and the slider made it extremely useful to change to 2D.

There are some decent games coming out and some I would buy right away. Though I'm confused has Nintendo gone to a system FC and not a per game FC? I know the 3DS has more online features and what not but I'm curious as to what a system FC does.

Yes, the 3DS only has the one friend code.

Excerpt from the 3DS entry on Wikipedia; I bolded a couple statements to hopefully answer your questions:
Quote:
The background connectivity allows users to exchange software content regardless of what software is currently in the console. Sharing content is stored in a "data slot" in the console. Using this data slot, Nintendo 3DS users can readily share and exchange content for multiple games at the same time, whenever they are connected, even when playing unrelated games. Using the console's background connectivity, a Nintendo 3DS in StreetPass Mode can automatically discover other 3DS units within range, establish a connection, and exchange content for mutually played games, all transparently and without requiring any user input, even when the console is dormant. For example, in Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, if the user passes someone with the same software, he has a battle to collect trophies from the other player.

It can be customized to fit the user's preferences, including opting out of it altogether for selected software. One application being considered is functionality to "automatically acquire magazine and newspaper articles", similar to networked e-book reader applications. Other improvements to online functionality include how Friend Codes are implemented, with only one code necessary for each console, as opposed to the DS and Wii where individual Friend Codes are required for each piece of software.

Having bought one (we are friends already!) I would suggest to other people to hold out, unless the games out now are worthy of your playing.
I bought Bust-a-move (love bust-a-moves games XD) and Rayman.
I've beat B-a-m and played like 0 rayman (damn cute chick at best buy...used my weakness to make me buy stuff).

I may end up selling mine/trading mine in if there is a Zelda 25th Anniversary edition (Nintendo didn't really do anything big with Zelda, like they did with Mario..word on the DL is they doing something with the 3DS).

OoT is the only thing I'm interested in. And, honestly, it's not because I care about 3D at all. It's just because I loved the game and wouldn't mind playing it again.

But, honestly, I'm less interested in the 3D version then I am the downloadable version for the Wii.

I got to try one out a couple days ago, and it was pretty neat... but not worth $250 at this point. If it drops in price and the library expands I might get one. I'm just hoping my DS Lite can last a bit longer... the L button is almost non-functional at this point :(.

Added.

The eShop is supposed to be coming in the June 6 update, where they'll also be implementing the web browser. Someone pointed out that the timing is probably not coincidental, as that's supposed to be the day Nintendo announces the successor to the Wii at E3. (Edit: I was a day off. Nintendo's streaming their presentation live starting at 9 AM Pacific on Tuesday, June 7. http://e3.nintendo.com/ )

I don't have any games for mine yet, but I'm having a blast showing friends & family Face Raiders. I also plugged the SD card into my PC and uploaded the soundtrack that came with Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii. It seemed an appropriate thing to do.

Ralrra, while I don't have a 3DS yet, I will soon and will add you when I get it. I'll probably get it when OoT comes out. Look for you then.

I never got into Pokemon (outside of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, anyway; friends fear my Jigglypuff), but I'm looking forward to Excitebike as well. From what I read, the 3D depth slider drastically changes the view.

Speaking of Excitebike, one of the visuals you can use in the 3DS Sound when you're playing music is an Excitebike track.

I loved playing Excitebike on the NES. Though I don't believe I could ever get first place on the 5th level. That **** was hard!

I wish I could say the same. My Wii died a long time ago, and all my data along with it. I got it replaced, but I don't have either my old Mii or yours.

I got my 3ds. I'll add you tonight. My FC is: 3909-7621-4809

So, my younger brother got a 3DS for Christmas. Obviously, I'll be stealing it every now and again.

so while we are the topic - I totally love netflix on the 3ds - just set that up last night. The music player is nifty but for it to be any real use I will need to get some sort of dohicky to boost volume since the output from the machine is pretty meh.

You apparently like the 3DS Sound, too; when I added you, you were playing it. Smiley: nod

yeah but I am not liking the max volume, I was looking around (actually) today for some kind of plug in I can use to boost the sound - for me walking or riding the bus the max sound is too low (probably to save the abyssmal battery power)

(also I've listened to headphones for too loud, too long)

but it works as a sort of rudimentary mp3 player (with visualizations even .. ha) and okay but not fantastic sound fidelity. You can also mess with it using the machine as well (change pitch, add drums, all sorts of stuff I don't really pay much mind to)

I'm also trying to get through Find Mii and Puzzle Swap, but I live in a small town. I think there's only 3 other people in town that own a 3DS.

if you touch the smiley face on the top bar you can enter a name for yourself/get your friend code. Not sure if you need to use the miimaker to make yourself an avatar first

The advantage is that once you have friends registered you can (for instance) race them in mario kart (vs random matches)

you also enter friend codes through that interface
