Apparently not, because now Isabella and Aveline are fighting in my parlor. And the Vicount sent Aveline to ask me to intercede on the city's behalf. Why didn't he come himself, I ask? Oh, because he just lost his son--it's understandable.

I JUST SAW MY MOTHER'S SEVERED HEAD ON A PATCHWORK BODY, KEPT ALIVE BY NECROMANCY.

WHY DOES NO ONE UNDERSTAND THIS?

And I don't even get to go see Bethany at the Circle? I'm done with Kirkwall-I don't wanna be their champion. Lemme go to Ferelden and hang out with Alistair. >:(
That probably explains why you've gone missing at the end and folks are questioning Varric about you.

Not sure that needed to be in a spoiler since you find it out during the opening cutscene, but did so anyway.

Running through my second play through now and having a tough time finding ambrosia if anyone can point me in the right direction.

As for my what the hell moments in the game. I decided to court anders and successfully did so. And so this little prick decides to on his 3rd friend quest in act 3 ask me to help him make a potion to get rid of justice. So we can be together and justice won't get in the way of us and we won't be hunted as much since he wasn't an abomination.

*Detailed spoilers incoming*

Awesome. No problem let's go love. Finished the quest and headed for the final scenes of the game some time later. So it's at the breaking point between the mages and templars and I am trying to keep the peace. And ander says it's to late. And I am like wtf do you mean it's to late? He says he's sorry. I was thinking what the **** did you do! And all of a sudden the chantry ******* explodes with the grand cleric inside it.

My jaw it the floor and I literally screamed at my tv screen "YOU IDIOT!" DUPED ME INTO STARTING A ******* WAR. SHE ON OUR SIDE. SHE AGREE'D WITH US MARADETH WAS ******* PSYCHOPATH. SHE WANTED TO JUST KEEP THE PEACE. WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST BLOW THE ***** LEADING THE TEMPLARS AND NOT HER. YOU OBTUSE SINGLE-MINDED *******.

Damn, I wish I hadn't read that. I just got that quest... Oh well, I knew that very end part anyway, from a stupid spoiler on the wiki for how to romance Sebastian. >:(

I totally agree. I'm not sure I've ever really had such visceral, emotional responses to a game before. And, if I have, they were usually at the climax/end of the game. DA2 gives at least 2 per chapter, it seems, with more depending on your choices.

My only real complaints so far are that:

1. The romance options are less interesting this time around. The CHARACTERS are still very interesting--I'm just not feeling the force of the romance. I think it's because the actual ROMANCE get's too rushed. In DA:O, you flirted quite a bit--you'd see a gradual progression from flirting to something more serious. Now it feels too regimented... I get that part of that is the time gap--like I was clearly flirting with Anders nonstop for years and just didn't see it happen on screen.

Or maybe it's just a lack of sex scenes. (Seriously, wtf! GIMME IT!)

2. There are WAY too many sustainables in the game--it makes programming tactics a *****. Aveline is my biggest offender, followed by Anders (and I don't even use his DpS stuff). Merrill is quite annoying, I suppose, but I stopped using her in favor of Varric, because I've had a lot more use for single-target damage lately. To be fair, my Rogue only uses the speed one, lol. Nothing else seemed worth it.

3. Sebastian.

4. Isabela and Fenris both seem largely... useless. Aveline takes SO MUCH less damage than him, and his damage output while tanking is laughable, since he can't invest in DpS skills or sustainables. But his damage output while DpSing still isn't great--my Rogue takes out more enemies in the same amount of time, and I don't get hit doing it. Isabela's... fine. Just not as good as Varric... or Sebastian. Mostly due to her Swashbuckler tree being lackluster (especially compared to Hawke's options). If it wasn't for All Hands on Deck, I wouldn't even consider her a valid option, in all likelihood. Though I suppose she could potentially be useful on bosses?

Your focusing on the wrong part of that. I rage at my screen over stupid ****. Like when my character in DO:A would run around instead of attacking when I told it TO ******* ATTACK NOT RUN TO THE ******* LEFT WHERE THERES A CLUSTER OF FIRE THAT WILL ONE SHOT YOU YOU ******* ***.

Is there another viable tank character aside from Aveline? I don't care to tank, but I might respec to Sword & Shield and control a different character just so I don't have to tote her and her Jay Leno chin around with me.

Fenris is "viable" but I eventually switched to Aveline--too many close calls with him. Still, though, you can use him.

The problem is that my total healing options come down to Panacea, Heal, Aid Allies and Pots.

But if you are running a Warrior, you can handle some adds on your own, and Aid Allies/Panacea should keep you alive fine, taking some heat off of Fenris. I was running a Shadow/Assassin Rogue, so I just went down too fast to do so.

Yeah, I forgot to add that to my list of complaints. Despite having multiples of each class, we really only have 1 tank and 1 healer (the fact that Merril can't even learn Heal is absurd, imo).

It pretty much forces you to use Anders, unless you are running as a Spirit Healer (and, even then, I would still use him for additional security). You are less forced into Aveline, and if you have the Warden+Anders, Fenris should be more than sufficient, but you'll really want to use her in any other scenario.

So, assuming you don't want to tank or heal, we are down to 1 remaining party slot for Fenris, Merrill, Sebastian, Varric and Isabela. Bethany/Carver too, I suppose, if they can rejoin down the line--she's still shown on my character screen, just darkened. Bethany would be a very welcome addition at this point...

That's... not appealing. I like that each person specializes, but the presence of only 1 NPC Healer is not okay, imo. I like Anders, but I'm not going to want to use him for all of my play throughs.

Siblings will rejoin for the final fight so long as they are not dead.

I found that very odd and then they take away bethany rather early in the game which is ok since she doesn't have anything unique about her but she did have creation on her.

I was able to do most of year 1 and half of year 2 without anders but I had to bring him in until I got the revive grenade.

Main character rogues can easily be made into a tank later in the game. Duelist combined with half of shadow specialization can easily tank. You will need all of Duelist and at least chameleon breathe to do it(Not a shadow ability.) Decoy is what you want from shadow, this is fantastic for tanking and creating a fair amount of damage as well this is not particularly needed for every run in but for bosses is necessary.

Very mild predictable optional enemy spoilers.

With this combination I was able to tank High dragon as a rogue. When you fight him after every 25% he will fly out of range onto an upper ledge while lesser dragons attack and he attacks at a distance. Sometimes he doesn't come down immediately after killing all the lesser dragons and I Vendetta up to him which he didn't appreciate. I ended up tanking him until the next batch of lesser dragons spawned and I was able to vendetta back down. So Rogue is a completely viable tank using duelist.

I can see that--I'm just not sure how to handle AoE situations? You don't have any way to generate AoE threat, besides the decoy explosion and grenades, no? Meanwhile, Warriors get to transfer half the threat from everyone else to themselves...

It's not a perfect wall but usually between haste(A very broken spell all around) and the generally ridiculous damage I was doing by the last year I would shred through most groups before they even got the chance to get a few hits off on mages. And for the most part my mages were sturdy enough to hold their own verse the 1-2 enemies that got through. Especially since I built anders strictly support. Very little aoes besides like paralyze for example and had him exploit the disorientated status with spirit bolt. The only damaging spell he had. Meril would mainly cast debuffs and I would manually have her cast electric spells in bigger groups(I prefer for spells like that to do it manually anyways). Sebastian also good since for the most part his abilities are not major aoes (Besides arrow rain) and he has his own form of decoy.

You have to have a very single target set up for it to work and it might not sound like it's great in a cluster **** however I would just shred through people in 5-7 seconds a cluster of lower enemies(I can drop someone with a medium bar in 1-2 seconds, small one in less then a second and leaders in roughly 3 seconds with haste up it was really awesome.) While my team-mates just did crowd control(Merril would pull enemies together anders paralyze them I still used avaline but the amount of times I ended up tanking over her was quite numerous>.>)

Quick tip: Anders and Bethany both having access to haste is 5 kinds of broken. Have one auto cast it the other one manual and you will absolutely destroy with melee attacks.(I switched to bethany over meril in the final scenes)

I am pretty close to have, had every school of magic in practice might go over to FAQs and write my first guide.

Interesting...

I'm trying to figure out my next Mage build now. I'm thinking either:

1. A glass cannon Force Mage/Spirit Healer (I want to play a "good" character this time, so I don't want to use Blood Mage). Magic and Willpower are my primary stats, with only a minimal amount in constitution. I'm not sure I even want to invest in Rock Armor or Heroic Defense, though I might shell out a point for Force Field. But largely I want to aim for keeping opponents away from me, rather than enduring hits. I haven't really thought it out more thoroughly than this (as in what spells I'll take--only what I won't).

2. An "Arcane Warrior." I'll go for an extremely resilient Blood Mage/Spirit Healer who generally turtles and uses most of my mana on sustainables (perhaps casting a few big spells then turning them on). And this is kinda broken down into two categories:
a. A magic-based Mage who uses high-damage staff attacks, primarily, with only occasional spell usage (and mostly to debilitate rather than damage). Force Mage/Spirit Healer is an option, too, depending on how much magic I actually want to use. Stats are magic and con. Only problem with the build is that I'll be limited to lower-end gear, since the Champion set inexplicably requires willpower (you're out of luck blood mages!)

b. A strength-based Mage who has pitiful attacks, but can equip plate armor. That will (combined with an upgraded rock armor) make my damage resistance sky rocket. And Force Mage spec will make it nearly impossible to knock me over. Sustainables would be: Heroic Aura (10%), Rock Armor (10%), Arcane Shield (20%), Elemental Weapons (10%) = 50% lost. And that would make me kinda like an extremely durable bard. I might then take Healing Aura (30%) for the +50 health regeneration, leaving me with 20% left. I could either leave that or grab Death Syphon for 20% (leaving me with 10%). You start with 160 mana, so leaving Death syphon out means that I could cast almost any spell every x seconds (where x is the amount of time it takes to regen 30 mana). That might be useful, since it would let me use Crushing Prison, Haste or Barrier.

I'm leaning towards the first option, but not sure yet. 2a sounds fun as well... But I may go for the Force Mage variety so I can use that sexy Champion set. But even 2b is still in the running.

You can use the Maker's Sigh potion to respec any of the Warriors into a tank. I didn't bother with it myself, a tank is a tank in my opinion, who it is doesn't matter.

Except that Aveline gets amazing tank skills in her special tree, as well as Sword-and-shield talents, while Fenris gets one okay-but-expensive tanking talent (edit: and a decent passive) and only has access to two-handed talents. That's a big difference.

A. You have to at higher difficulties.
B. Excuse us for enjoying something that is, by design, a large part of the game. Planning your character, and your team, is a large part of the DA games. And they go pretty far out of their way to give you options.
C. What do you do, just place points at random?

[EDIT]

I really wish Varric was a possible romance, I really do. A, he had the best personality in the game. :P B, all three guys are whiny and annoying. C, 3 humans, 2 elves and not even 1 Dwarf? D:

I suppose the reason was because he's the narrator, but that's stupid (imo), because they could have explained him not knowing where Hawke was in many ways.

I don't think you can I was never prompted to! I couldn't say I like to if I could.

I found force mage extremely disappointing, at least fist of the maker. It's rather debilitating (Takes normal enemies and wail them against the ground) but the damage was disappointing. However pull of the abyss combined with whatever that slow move was really was potent. Not only does it slow down their ability to move but make their melee strikes extremely slow. It's actually the only two worth while spells on the path although the explodes enemies away move rather fun just to see enemies go flying!

Edit: Oops missed the edit!

Sorry, I prefer to play on difficulties that take some planning and strategy management. Sword & Shield offers too much in the way of tanking abilities to pass over. I know about Maker's Sigh, as I mentioned respec'ing my main. I wasn't about to start a new game just to avoid using Aveline.

Started my 3rd go as a warrior sword and shield balanced between offense and defense atm. Most note worthy thing is that I decided to always answer with the joking/sarcastic remark and noticed that my character started talking sarcastically constantly even when I am not given a choice. Even the battle cries have changed. Nice touch there Bioware.

Edit: I noticed a solution to the Rogue tank problem but it requires a second rogue. "Goad" should make up for the lake of taunt and battle synergy.
