Dragon Age IIFollow

#1 Feb 22 2011 at 4:09 AM Rating: Excellent
Firstly, the demo is out at some point today on XBL, PSN and the official website.

Secondly, I just completed Dragon Age: Origins, and all of the DLC's apart from Awakening (which I'm playing now).

How I didn't complete them before, I don't know. I think it's even more epic than the ending to Mass Effect 1. My jaw genuinely dropped when some of the twists and turns kicked in. Maybe I'm dumb, but I had no idea that Alistair was the ******* son of the King, or that Anora was going to turn on me, and especially not that Morrigan's aim was to get impregnated by a Grey Warden so she can give birth to a God. On that note, Witch Hunt was disappointing and didn't really tell me much. I hope hope hope Morrigan pops up in DA2... but I doubt it.

I hear it's more of an action game than before. Which is fine by me. As long as it still has some form of the tactics wheel, I'll be a happy bunny. If it doesn't, then I'll suck at the game...

Any thoughts? Who's going to get the demo and/or pick it up when it's out?

Planning to pick it up on release day, but I've promised myself that I would complete DA:O - Awakening before playing it. :(

Editted for non-premium-friendliness.

There was a video from a dev showing the wheel is still in play in DA2.

I really want to pick up some more DLC for DA:O, is it worth it? I don't have Witch Hunt yet, which is the main one I'm thinking of getting...

Witch Hunt is ok... I've covered it in the spoiler (If you've completed DA:O then nothing to worry about there really). For how much it costs, it's worth a go.

Leliana's Song is brilliant. Seriously, I was amazed just how good it was considering it costs hardly anything to buy. The content, the characters, the quests. I loved it. And Marjolaine is one EVIL *****. I can't believe I didn't kill her in DA:O!!! :(

Golems of Angarrak, not so great. I didn't get too much from that.

I don't have the Darkspawn Chronicles. Playing as a Darkspawn doesn't interest me.

I'm currently playing Awakening, and it's good, but it's not got quite the same feel to it that DA:O has. I'm not sure I like the characters as much either. Plus they kill off Mhairi at the start of the game and she seemed to be quite interesting. I was a bit disappointed.

In preparation for DA2, apparently there is going to be a 6-episode miniseries called "Dragon Age: Redemption." I'm not one for online miniseries, but as it's starring Felicia Day (of "The Guild" fame), I might give it a shot.

Edit: Also, I've only played the original DA, no downloadable content. I might buy Awakening, although it sounds like the only thing to look forward to is a (slightly weaker) story, since there's no romance or anything.

Already paid for it. Just have to wait a couple more weeks. I hear that if you finish the demo you get a unique item that carries over into the game. I might have to give that a go.

If the lack of undergarment-clad dry humping is a deal breaker for you, perhaps it's time for you to re-evaluate your priorities.

;)

Or just play Mass Effect again; blue alien chicks are hawt.

There is romance... I think. I have a female mage and one of the characters is sleazing on to me. So I think you can get funky with the monkey. But I'm not that far in yet.

By the way, the demo is up and running on the website. It's also on XBL, but only for Gold members at the moment (which I'm not). No idea about PSN, but I assume it is.

Currently I can't even connect to get the demo started. It's like playing FFXI 5 years ago.

Haha, more like getting to actually "woo" one of the characters (or multiple?) was fun. From what I've heard about Awakening, it's like you're along for the story but not part of it. I want Alistair to still be my little love muffin Smiley: frown

I woo'd Leliana as a female character, and she went all crazy just because I was nice to Alistair. Accused me of cheating on her and being in love with him, kept asking me if I was dumping her...

It's amazing how close to reality they can get with video games nowadays, isn't it?

Apparently, somebody feels pretty strongly about the undergarment-clad dry humping.

Alistair is just the type of good looking oblivious dolt to have fun with.

Dunno if I'd settle down with him, despite how hilarious he is.

I hated him the first time I played it. He annoyed me. However after playing through the game, he grew on me a lot. I was surprised just how deep his story got, I expected him to just be comic relief.

Same applies to Zevran. He tries to be amusing, fails in places, then you find out... well, I won't spoil it.

Sten, on the other hand, was annoying. But he even says in the game that he's intentionally doing it.

Started the demo today for II. It feels like a pretty different animal. But so far so good, I'm walking down a linear path blasting the living crap out of waves of mobs with my mage. The way the mage attacks now looks purty badass.

Camera is different. Much QQ already spawning over that I wonder if they will restore top down after all the QQ's sign their boycott petitions. Smiley: rolleyes

Functionality is pretty limited. You cant open you bags so no real reason to loot except for the potions. The menu's are definitely more console/arcade friendly. Maybe they will put xbox 360 PC controller support in. That could be fun.

I downloaded the demo on 360 last night, but I'm not touching it until this weekend. Will post impressions then.
