Recently playing Shaiya. Unlike most Korean MMORPGs (at least the ones I have played), its good to see that different mobs actually have different skills instead of just 'Auto-attack till death'. It is 18+ though, due to the nudity in the game.

The nudity in the game is nothing more than the nudity that was in the first Diablo. The half women monsters have bare breasts.

StarSonata was what I played before I got pissed off with the admins and left to find greener, orc shaped pastures.
It is a small playerbase (psuhing 2000 if you include the free players), but really quite amazingly good fun. Brilliant combat system that requires actual skill, reflexes and intelligence and a system of Augmenters that allow you to completely customize your setup and keep that setup secret from others.
It is Free to Play up until level 20, at which point you can keep playing forever but wont level up any further.
I seriously reccomend trying it out, I reached level 1474 before the admins nerfed Capital Ships into the ground and made me decide to give up... but I am sure I will return at some point, the claws are in pretty deep.
It is hurt by a poor quest system, which aside from the beginner's galaxies (which are actually pretty good) is near non-existant. The community is small enough that every player of a decent level knows every other player. This makes PvP particularly fun due to the grudges that are held between teams. Currently there is a war between 6 of the top 10 teams, 3v3. The old power Pantalones which held the title of emperor for nearly a year has been run into the ground by a new leader and various teams have risen to overthrow them, it's all very exciting =)
But anyway, I reccomend trying it out.

Myth of Soma apparently didn't do so well, as they are shutting down the servers on March 31st, so you may as well take that one off the list.

I played it during the open beta and its actually quite fun but it has massive lag in some areas making them near impossible to be in, its what made me quit, now that may or may not have been fixed.

It has a RTS battle system, I'v never seen one in any online game before and its pulled off well, Monsters are all onscreen has a rather large world some monster placement needs to be addressed starting area mobs 1-10 go over the bridge mobs 50-90 >.<. they will chase you also.

Battles are on a timer, I think it was 20 seconds may have been 30 a turn you, go then they go. Field is a 3x3 grid for each team up to 6 teams, 3 monsters 3 PC's.

1vs1 match

PC1 You PC2

This is both good and bad as you can team up against a monster party (3>1) but they can do the same to you (1>3)these are very dangerous regardless of how powerful you think you are as 3 groups of mobs 5-8 lvs under you can cause some serious dmg, some can kick your *** beforr you get a turn due to some special ability's that are rather over powered for the lv, being "AoE" and that if unlucky to get 3 groups of 9 they can ALL use it(though that's rare as hell and only certain mobs have said moves and don't always come in groups of just that mob usually mixed with easier non AoE using ones)

Another thing about the battle is if there are monsters around the one your fighting others can join if there close enough and if a full (3x3) spot is Open.
PC's can do the same, exp is gained per attack/action(healing others) on the mobs for the character that does it and there are party bonus's for exp and item drops. with this system you will have some characters leveling faster than others

One main draw back to the game is its based on a Stamina system meaning you can only fight so many battles a day there are way to recover stamina.

Guild Training will help recover it but it costs money to do, fighting in party's help too as 2 pts you get 1 stamina back every 3rd? fight and 3 party's gets 2 back every 3rd? fight

It has a crafting system, doesn't seem to be any limit to how far you can go in each but it costs money to go up a level higher the level the more it costs for next, and the cost for some of the items are along the line of selling your first born son AND daughter to afford it, but you can learn skills from someone else that has it as long as your craft skill exp is ready for upgrade, it really only saves you the upgrade fee and hunting down the damn NPC that teaches it as they wander the world.

Actually Saga of Ryzom offers a 21 day trial. The trial allows users to play for free and progress without any deterrents. You can get pretty far in the trial.

Anyone else feel that it's incredibly strange that all these 1 post people make posts in this thread?

Not strange at all. The prevalence of Atlantica posts, however...

Guild Wars is an old MMO but it is still actively played. It is pay-to-buy and free-to-play MMO(that is, no monthly fee).
Trial: http://guildwars.com/freetrial/

Guild Wars 2 is currently under development.
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.
