Perma death back?Follow

#1 Jun 29 2005 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
I have been hearing rumours that the devs are going to bring back the perma death rule that jedi used to have as there are too many now. I always thought that perma death was a bit harsh, but maybe they could bring back the system where jedi would lose skill boxes if they died.

As long as they do something about the amount of jedi that will be effective I'll be happy. You can't join a hunting group without having two or three jedi in it, and the large amount of jedi has spawned the large amount of bh, turning it into one big jedi vs bounty hunter game.

Perma Death is not coming back. They got so many complains about it. It's just stupid for a player to play 6-8 months to become a Jedi, then loose it again. And the loss of skill box didnt work much either, would you be happy if you lost any skills if you died? There are way to many Jedi's now, i totally agree.. something has to be done, my opinion is to close the Village..

Lol sure they can close the village just after i got my paddy :)

They should make jedi more mystical to get, maybe the old man can give you a riddle/quest but not a simple one, one you have to work out on your own, you must decided where to start within the galaxy, who to talk to etc.

Maybe he could ask you to solve a crime using your wisdom, your given a small clue where abouts to start, and you go from there.

Could be very interesting, also it will mean that you acctually have to do something fun to get jedi, perhaps all the FS skills could be attained after doing a quest like this, i think it would be very engaging, there could be many many different quests and you dont know which one youll have to do.

Some of the quests could require allot of work which may deter your average gamers that arent so intent on getting jedi.

About jedi loosing a skill box if they die, omg id kill myself if i was a jedi and lost a 1.6mill xp skill box, also dont forget that jedi only get about 1k jedi xp for the same creatures non jedis would get 7k :) so 1.6x7 = 11.2mill.

So thats like us loosing a skill box worth 11.2mill rifle xp for example. :)

So all theyll do with that is **** off allot of ppl, who will never be able to use their jedis again due to fear of being hunted by BH's, also you might notice the increase in Bh's accross the galaxy :) **Cough**respeced**Cough**

And compared to when this used to be a big issue theres allot more ppl with glowie sticks, therefore there will be allot more pissed off ppl with glowie sticks if they implemented it again.

Just my thoughts, if anyone is angry at this post im sry.

I think people fear bh's too much. If the jedi just did what they used to to do and stay secretive then they wouldn't be put on the terminal. Duelling outside starports, and spamming LFG in hunting hotspots isn't a good way to be discreet.

Maybe there should be a jedi cap in the same way as there are city caps. The game would be ruined if everyone was allowed to build as many cities as they want, just as the game is slowly being ruined by letting as many people create uber jedi as they want. Eventually, when the majority of people are jedi, the devs will just have to make the game harder, then the ordinary combat professions will go, and the crafters too. At the moment they just seem to be nerfing the jedi over and over to keep them at a reasonable power level, which must annoy the old jedi who did the holo grind pre-CU.

I'm not saying its unfair people are becoming jedi, or that people shouldn't aspire to make their character what they want. I'm just trying to point out that in the current system its become too easy to become a jedi. Everyone has seen the dramatic increase recently; the method they have in place is too soft if so many people can become jedi so quickly.

If you take away the ability to become a Jedi, it becomes VERY unfair for people who are not yet Jedi yet still want to become one. If you are already in the process of becoming a Jedi and spent who knows how long trying to get it and then your hopes and dreams are shattered, you basically just got screwed.

The only way to keep them down is to have increased penalties for them. Here is my opinion....

When a Jedi first is "created" perse, they get 25 death points. Each time they are killed in PvP is would only cost 1 DP, but each time they are killed in PvE, it would cost 5. To help them out a little, each week they would get 5 more DPs, but it would remain caped at 25 DPs. When someone runs out of DPs, they lose all their Jedi posessions, but get their pre-Jedi build back, along with some progress in The Village. All their Jedi posessions, however, would be destroyed.

In addition to the current XP penalty upon death, if the Jedi had a lightsaber equiped during their PvP death (or fought with it at all during that battle), it could be looted by their killer.

Just some ideas.

What would you do with a looted lightsaber? You can't use it.
Although that would be fun, having a bunch of bounty hunters running around with lightsabers lol.

What is peoples problems with jedi??

For all you complaining about them how many of you are FS, how many are quietly grinding away your FS????

Leave them alone.

I agree they shouldn't be running around everywhere dueling in canteena's etc, and yeah they should be more secretive, like they were, quietly grinding away their skills avoiding the dreaded BH, And i agree the village was a BAD! idea with a capital BA and D making the path to jedi straight lined was silly, but unless you have any better ideas, remember they made it quest based causse everyone was complaining about the hologrind.

the fact they are not in hiding is SOE's fault, they forced them to group to get the xp they need, that puts them on the terminals, that gets the dreaded Bh's after them, so why shouldn't they have fun with it they visible anyway lol.

How about instead of complaing about jedi's you all start on SOE for the way they are messing this game up publish after publish
or are you all willing to accpet this rubbish as long as jedis get nerf'd????

P.S before you ask no im not jedi, yes im slowly working towards it, and yes i was looking forward to hiding away from months becoming a hermit and emerging fully temped and kicking **** for the rebelion, but SOE took that from me, so maybe i to will have some fun when i get there

I really like ShadowPheonix’s idea to make it more mystical and puzzling. By having each Jedi want-a-be solve a different puzzle or crime. The old man will give a few clues and it is up to you to figure the rest out.

I played this game a year and a half to get my Jedi, playing by the rules as SOE made and changed them. I'm a pre CU Jedi that earned it by filling the 24 boxes, which took me the better part of 3 months. The Holo grinders had it much much worse thatn I.As much as I hate playing my weak a**sed Jedi, all of you whiners out there play the game like you want and shut the fook up.

Sorry for the rant, but I HATE peeps complaining about all the other profs out there. They're prolly AFK dancers anyway.
#11 Jun 29 2005 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
the only afk dancers I see were the ones grinding the profession for jedi

I would personally like it if they did something like Shadow suggested. It would be a mystery you could work on from low, new characters to high and mighty ones.

About the lightsabers, I would have it be a token of your victory in addition to a hinderance for the Jedi. For anyone who played Diablo II, it would be like the ear you get for killing someone in PvP, only these would be more noteworthy. The lightsaber would also contain all the records about the fight. Who knows, maybe it could be made so you could sell them to the Hutts or something for a sweet deal!

PS: Emjay, I've never actually pursude becoming a Jedi except for before when it was discovered to be the holo-grind and me and a few friends were trying to find out. I don't really think you should take it so personally or accuse SOE for this. Is it their fault, yes, but we are here to talk about what and why we want to see, not complain about SOE. I'm sorry, but that was supposed to take place between 4/27 and 5/10, you missed the deadline :P

I am FS at the moment, and am grinding for Jedi, so my opinions in this matter are not byest(or however you spell it)to either side.

I think the Idea that Death point system that Splinter came up with is fantastic, It should really be looked at Devs. This gives people the chance to become Jedi, but actually live the life that a Jedi Supposed to.. with great care. If you are running low on points, you will have no choice but to live underground for a couple of weeks with the fear of losing your Jedi Status. If this happens, you should go back to having your FS boxes, but maybe loose the last box on each tree that you have. Meaning that you need to grind some more for the privalige of being a Jedi again.

This game is ment to signify the Starwars Universe at the time of A New Hope+, bit with the mass increase of Jedi within the game, we will have a mass Jedi war on our hands, and the Star Wars theme will be lost.

The only people that will complain about an idea like this are the Jedi. and those that dont like it will complain and threaten to "leave the game" to be a marter - I see no problem with that as this will also decrease the amount of Jedi. Its a win / win situation really.

Well done again Splinter

Well maybe one way to keep the Jedi popluation down would be to stop it from being the only way to get a free alt on a server =P.. even the players not really wanting a Jedi will be pretty keen for that reason alone.. besides I went jedi from bordem.. ground out my proffessions to what I wanted and found that I was left with not alot to do after that, so went Jedi for some game-play,and the alt that I would receive.. the idear of having to travel to planets and solve quests would be a great idear.. but why only for Jedi?.. why not have them for all proffessions.. nerff the village and actualy have some decent quests for all would be better.
