Maybe cus not many people play thats why it moved up a little. If everyone in the united states played ever quest then the price might be $1.00 or lower,if only a few people play like 25-45 then the price might be $800.00 or more... I dont know just my point of view.

Naaa, show me one case where this has hppened (in the gaming world)!?!? No, the price for "services" almost never decreases because more peeps are using it, it tends to go the other way!

While membership ebbs back n forth, the average membership is prolly around the same as it was 3 months after the game began. So, membership numbers are not a factor here.

The price would never go below what it started at, that was the minimum price projected to make a profit. Why the increase who knows, higher electrical costs, paying employees too much, a rate hike in the fees going to Sony, just not a good idea over all to me.

Greetings Everyone,

Due to the increased costs of running the EverQuest Online Adventures game service, we will be increasing our subscription rates. Effective July 25, 2005, the new monthly subscription rate will be $12.99/month. While this announcement may be unpleasant, the cost of operating a top tier MMO has increased significantly over the past few years and this change will help us achieve our goal of providing our players with an enjoyable experience in the world of EverQuest Online Adventures. We will continue to offer discounts from the new rate plan on multi-month subscriptions. The new price for a 3-month subscription will be $34.99, a 6-month subscription will now be $59.99 and a 12-month subscription will now be $89.99. You don’t have to do a thing; your account will automatically be migrated to the new billing structure under your current subscription plan when your current subscription plan expires. Subscription rates are subject to tax and value-added taxes, as applicable. These price increases will not affect the SOE Station Access™ subscription rate.

In response to someone who posted about getting more for our buck...it seems they will do more for this, however, knowing SoE, we'll get the same- every 2 weeks- updates.

I think my original SPOOF on price increase is just as valid as SOE's reason to rateup. Remember the thread I started about SOE raising thier prices due to the overwhelming cost of pixels because of gasoline increase!!?

This is Sapphyra's response to the EQOA community concerning the rate increase. Some may have already read it and others may not care but I thought I would add it anyway.

Hail, adventurers. I promised my own comments about the announcement today, and here they are.

First, let me wax philosophic. I remember the first day I heard about Everquest for the PS2. I was working at a different game studio and immediately started researching where I could go to work on this title, which combined my two passions-Everquest and the PlayStation2. I remember getting hired on at SOE and working many, many hours during the last 5 months before EQOA launched. It was so gratifying to see EQOA approved and sent off to print, and then began speculations on what would happen at launch…

Then, February 12, 2003 came along and we opened the floodgates! The world that the EQOA team had worked so hard to create, give life (and us as QA-polish and shine it so it glimmered) was now ready to be inhabited. The newfallen snow had its first footprints in Halas, the stableboy was pwned for the first time, CVs were sold for hundreds of tunar to merchants. You nicknamed the hunting areas, you found the quests, you created eqoa-specific lingo, and we sat back and watched with amazement and wonder as the first people reached level fifty, raiding guilds were formed, epics were completed, and dragons were conquered.

A lot has changed in the last two years…

Level one to fifty isn’t quite the hefty climb it used to be. There are plenty of tracks in the snow in Halas. CVs go for a few hundred million (I still don’t get the tank-in-a-dress thing, but what do I know, I’m just a warrior that falls on her head a lot…), the lands are pretty much mapped out, and…ok, so the stable boy is still in the same predicament, but, I’m sure you get my point.

It’s been a fantastic ride so far, and that ride is far from over. Yes, I know EQOA is not perfect (working on that!), but it is home. It’s all I’ve known for almost 3 years here at SOE, and I’m not leaving if you’re not ::grin::.

It is never nice to be told you have to pay more money for anything in life, but costs rise. I remember when I could go to a fast food joint and get a meal for less than 3 dollars, now it costs 5 or more. Real estate? Sheesh! I’ll own my own little shoebox when I’m about 52 at this rate. As the years progress, things just plain cost more.

EQOA is no exception. Yes, we may be a smaller team than some others, but just bandwidth, servers, and all that basic “keeping the game running mumbo jumbo” isn’t cheap. We’re the last subscription based MMO I can think of that has kept their subscription fee under 10 dollars per month for this long, the standard nowadays is 15 dollars per month or more. EQOA’s one year price hasn’t changed. The long term subscriptions are still a fair discount. Gamecard prices aren’t changing until July 25th. If you play another SOE game, get yourself a station pass-it’s cheaper than paying for 2 separate subscriptions. I know this is not the solution for everyone, but these are just a few suggestions for you.

I wish I had more good news at this time to go with this announcement. All I can say is that there are some things in process that may help ease the sting of a price increase. Keep an eye on the forums for more information on this.

I cannot announce a new expansion. We are currently working on continuing development in Tunaria and the Frontiers areas. There are so very many stories that have yet to be told and I can’t wait to start unraveling more. I have spent some time running around the Zaoran Plateau scouting it out recently. I can’t yet give you an ETA, but it is definitely in the future plans for EQOA.

In conclusion…if we could continue to charge 9.95 for EQOA, we would. But it’s simply impossible due to rising costs. I hope that we can prove to you that your hard earned tunar is invested in us wisely with plenty of more updates and good news to come.

The EQOA team is a very passionate and hard working crew-I couldn’t ask for better folks to help me make this little slice of Norrath the best place it can be. And…well, you folks are some of the most loyal, dedicated, and passionate folks ever to play a game, I do believe. We can’t wait to put some more of our plans into motion and perhaps turn some of the “possibilities” we’ve been tossing around into action.

Thanks again for your support, your patience, and your loyalty,

-Sapphyra (gee, you can probably call me "sappy" for certain today, no?) and the rest of the EQOA team

Ok I could go at this from a bunch of angles, but I'll try this one. It's not Real life its not your HMO going up it's a game, Don't like it (don't like what the Dev's do ?) Leave the game move on. like a girlfriend you can't stand make her life better and leave.
Another point, look at it this way 6 months 9 months and a year rates stay the same, maybe SOe is looking for the gamer that comes back for a month then drops the account for 3 then to come back for two they may be looking for those ppl to commit for longer. Could be extra content and an expansion is coming???????
P.S. just can't stand whinning get enough from the kids at home.

I agree, although I am not level 60 yet. They did say that the epic-sodes would be released like 2 weeks apart. They are late as usual.
#43 Jun 24 2005 at 9:27 AM Rating: Decent
I still sayits all becuase of greed. They just want more money so they make us pay more.

And i didnt expect epicsodes to come out on time and knowing Soes way of doing things no1 else should either. Thats why im trying to get ranger up while waiting for next epicsodes.

Sorry guys....its all my fault.

See, I've been taking too long to get to 60. Still have 2 more levels to go.

So Sony has slowed down the release of the 60 Epics to time it so I can finish them as they release the last one :)

Then, all I said applies to your guildie... up yers guildie! :)

Well anyways, your right, I shouldn't take it personaly... I don't, and in kind, don't take anything I say personaly! :) See how that workz!?!? :)

I'm sorry for being mean-spirited... the only excuse I can offer... I've been on a anti-sapp crusade, becuz she is making too many changes, too fast, without much thought behind what she is doing! Becuz of that, peeps been giving me hell for it.

With the new 60 stuff and all of the SOE sponsored PL quests, she damm near killed off lowbie/regular grouping for a while!

Itz all just pixels forming patterns... it don't mean a thang!

Okay, now i usually just read posts and enjoy the conversations however when i recieved the imfamous email i felt compelled to reply:

first: My EQOA friends beware the end is near. Please don't let EQOA folks fool you. they are trying to end this and soon. first in one magazine article sony was quoted as having 30,000 active accounts (yes that includes all the duel and quad boxers). now to put that in perspective FFXI has 500,000 and will increase when XBOX 360 version drops and they are chargeing about 14 bucks. so its not like EQOA has alot of accounts to services or whatever. but consider this if they have 30,000 accounts....how many accounts would they go down to until they pull plug? it can't be too many and the increase my guess will send some of those accounts cancelled. which in my oppinion it is easier for a community like ours to accept pullin the plug because the accounts have dropped than to just one day say "okay we aren't making much money so lets pull plug" if you think i'm full of hot air go to a game store and look for eqoa... you won't find it, they aren't soliciting new accounts. and want the death of eqoa

Now consider this at E3 the next generation platforms were shown. and Xbox 360 dropping prolly by Christmas and PS3 dropping by Spring or sooner...How much more life will we get out of EQOA...How much is pratical business wise. I guess in the grand scheme i would have hoped that EQOA and sony were working on the PS3 MMORPG than upping price now...Just seems that they are basically saying this game title will walk off into the sunset in the next 4 to 6 months. :( it was fun while it lasted and i hope that SOE will come out of the gates swinging when the PS3 drops.

last WHEN ARe the WERE hunters going to get something cool! maybe the spell Mark of beast or something. They have been forgotten about

Please......

Do come here this time next year and repeat the same ole chicken litte story again and again... :)

I'll be here next saying the same thing I've been saying since last year... EQOA aint gonnna die off any time soon!

At 12.99 per peep, with 30,000 accounts that'z $389,700.00, not too bad, since all the hardware has been paid for, personel need to care for the servers is 1, personnel need to care for the game system 1. Even after utilities, HW-failures, maybe an extra personel taking care of Sappy's chapped-lip butt, they be still making money!

They ONLY way a international company like SOE is going to shut down a money maker, is when the cash flow is in the negative, or approaching it. Internationals all have one thing in common, squeeze as money from a system that you can! And they are, and they will.... no matter what Chicken Littles say!
#50 Jun 24 2005 at 3:06 PM Rating: Default
time will tell! but don't you think it odd that no intentions of an expansion have been anounced...or even a statement on the life of eqoa. yeah your right they are makin some loot on this little hike.... but what is the limit...my guess is if the monthly charge was 20 bucks you would still have people playing...thats why its call evercrack...

that money that they are making will shadow in comparison to a -PS3 version.

it will be hard for alot of people to coop with the loss of eqoa, so you won't be the only one...just don't do anything crazy k?

and for the record the price hike has no justification and SOE hasn't given the player anything New since frontiers(which is old).

chicken little

When was the last time since you loged on? About 50 new things have came out since fronts first came out.
