You need to get a slicer to open it for you.

You should not expect anything great from the container unless you are a n00b who is still using a CDEF pistol. The best thing I ever got in a sliced container was another sliced container. It was only cool because I was slicing for XP so the extra container was a big bonus.

I have found random articles of clothing too, but never any armor or weapons beyond CDEF ranged weapons, combat knives, and a staff or two of crappy quality.

Even for a newb those weaqpons suck, lol. An artisan can make better ones out of scrap resources. Sell the contianer on the bazaar as an aspiring Smuggler will pay more for it than anything inside could possibly be worth.

not all locked containers have junk in them...a friend of mine got a jetpack base in one from the DW bunker...

Those aren't dropped locked containers though, those are locked containers that are permanent in the dungeon that drop Jet Pack stuff.

out of the 300+ containers i opened 299 had crap, one once had a crystal in it. so thats .33% of getting something good.

Was the container dropped from a mob in the DWB? Maybe that had something to do with it cause I've opened hundreds of containers and never once got anything good in them.

Just putting my 2 cents in here....

Out of the 1000+ containers that I have sliced (both for grinding and for people who jut want empty containers for storage), the "best" things that Ihave found are as follows:

another locked container
maybe a total of 4 or 5 CAs, very low level ones
a few treasure maps

I have heard rumors of people finding crystals, adneasives, and other random high end items, but I have never seen anything better than what I listed above. Also, the location of the container doesn't matter. If it's a dropped container, it has the same odds of having junk (i.e. 99.999999%) if it was looted in DWB, or from a moisture thief out side of Mos Eisley. At least that is my experience.

Oh, and one other thing, since we're on the topic of slicing containers.... I know a lot of smugglers don't even open containers for strangers any more (myself included) because they are sick of being accused of stealing the "good stuff". First, there ISN'T any good stuff. Second, there is about a 5% chance that the container will be empty when it's opened, so just because that smuggler gives you back an empty container, it doesn't ALLWAYS mean he cheated you. Granted, there ARE some jerks out there that will ***** people over, but not that many of them....

Good point. I always slice containers open for people for free and I sliced three open for some guy while I was converting XP in the Village. First, he expected me to finish slicing the 3 in like 10 seconds, which was impossible because it was pretty laggy there because it was Phase 4 with all of the Sith attacks. One of them turned out to be empty, so when I traded it back to him he freaked and reported me to the CSRs. Nothing happened, but it was one hassle that I shouldn't have had cause I sliced it for free with my money that I bought the precision laser knives and molecular clamps with. Give most smugglers a break people, especailly the ones like me who slice for FREE.

That's another good point. For those who have never sliced an item, it's not quick. For a guaranted slice, here's what we have to do:

1) Make sure we have a knife, clamp, and upgrade kit (if doing weapons and armor) for each item we are slicing. 99% of hte time this means getting them out of factory crates.

2) open the slicing window via the radial dial. Connect the clamp

3) Read the text in the window carefully to make sure you're reading the color/polarity correctly (if you read it wrong, you botch the slice, and **** your client off)

4) Slice the first wire after double checking the color

5) Slice the second wire

Through out all of this you are often trying to be polite to the client who is chit-chating with you.

Granted, all of these steps don't take forever, and all said and done, it probably takes about 20-30 seconds per slice. However, it's not an instant process. Also, even slicing a container, which only needs a knife and a clamp, will run the slicer some credits. So when you get those free slices (which I do as well), make sure you thank your slicer.

Now, I know that part sounded pretty whiny, so I'll mention why I still keep the skill. First of all, it's really handy to be able to slice your own weapons and armor. That saves you several thousand credits as opposed to buying pre-sliced gear. Second, if you want to take the time to either sit in a starport or else be lucky enough to have a contract set up with an armor/weaponsmith, it is a very lucritive skill. I've made upwards of 100K credits in 15 minutes before just slicing a few suits of armor. So it IS worth getting the skill. Just don't put the smuggler or slicer tag up unless you're looking to do some work.

Oh, one other thing, while I'm thinking aobut it.... Please humor your slicer if they give you a big speach about slicing... Because so many people don't know what slicing entails, they assume some things that are not correct (I admit, I was one of them before I started the skill). That's why before I ever even accept the trade for the item I am slicing, I give the following disclaimers:

For Containers: "Just to make sure you understand, containers never have any valuable loot, and there is a very small chance that the container will be empty."

For weapons and armor: "Just to make sure you understand, we as slicers are unable to choose the type of slice we make. We can't choose speed over damage (or effect vs. encumberance for armor). Also, we have no control over the quality of the slice. it is random. The percentage range runs from 15%-30% (I'm not a master smuggler, so I don't have that extra 5% on the top end)"

That way, I make sure they understand the process, and can't justify complaining. Also, I NEVER tell the exact percentage of a slice unless the customer specifically asks me before hand. I will tell them the type of slice (speed, dmg, effect, encumb.) but not how much.

OK, I apologize for turning this thread into a slicer's rant. I'll shut up for a while now. I promise. :-)
