How to Build a Main Tank (revised)Follow

Ok ANY TANK CLASS CAN MT (jus clarifying this). Although Warriors have a slight advantage over the rest others can turn out as good or better than them. TPs Should be added this way:

WARRIOR:

SHADOWKNIGHT:

PALLADIN:

str should only be added up to the req. for MC or a lil higher. Dex should be avoided as much as possible. The Two main STAT Attributes are Sta and Agi. Sta will signifgantly raise your HP and the Agi will make up 1/3 of your defence helping you alot on mobs that hav nasty AC debuffs. Master Class helps alot. As you look at the Master Classes you may wonder why i hadnt chosen others (slayer etc.) because of the HP modifiers. HP is the least important thing on a raid!!!! AC (approx 3000-3500 is all that necessary) and Resistences are the MOST important.

Warrior:

Defender- sta max+50, hp max +500, AC +200
Required level: 55
Required stats: sta: 250, agi: 150
Points spent: 500
Required masteries abilitys: Defender's Resolve 3, Controlled Defense 3
MC abilitys: Defender's Guard (Guard)- Self-buff giving 1000ish AC. 600 duration, 4 recast.Wisdom modifier(?)Defender's Toughness- fr +25, cr +25, pr +25, dr +25, lr +25, ar +25. Strong self buff that Increases Resistence stats.

AC buff is stackable which will add to be 5000ish AC. +25 to resists helps alot to multiple resist mobs.

Shadow Knight:

Deathknight- sta max +50, sta +10, AC +300, DF mod +2
Required level: 55
Required stats: str: 200, sta: 200
Points spent: 500
Required masteries abilitys: Tainted Blood 3, Parasitic Bond 3
MC abilitys: Undead Servitude- Summons Undead Servant. level 40 non attacking familiar. Undead Servant buffs caster with 50 INT, 65 pr/dr/ar, and 300 power. buffs caster with "Veil of Death" like spell: a drain proc buff with an INT modifier. Heals for 116 at 400 INT.
Banshee Wall (Scream of Death)- horrendous scream damages and weakens your enemy. Debuffs monster, 900ish damage. 900ish power. 2 cast. 1 recast

+ 65 AR PR DR Will help you drimaticly.

Palladin:

Guardian- sta max +50, hp factor +2, AC +100, DF mod +2
Required level: 55
Required stats: STA: 200
Points spent: 500
Required masteries abilitys: Ancient Birthright 4
MC abilitys: Divinity- hp max +250, fr +20, cr +20, pr +20, dr +20, lr +20, ar +20. Buff that increases Defensive stats.
Guardian's Aid- Targetable tick heal. Not sure exact stats but ticks for about 380x4 with 200 cha.

HP mods, low AC (better than nothing), and nice resist mods.

can work. nice AC buff but will be lacking on resists. good for a secondary tank.

Ogre Juggernaut:
STA MAX +50 AC +200 DEF MOD +2 FR +5 CR +5 PR +5 DR +5 LR +5 AR +5
MCAS:
Cursed Ogre: STR +50 STA +50 WIS -25 INT -25 CHA -25 HP FACTOR +5
Crush: High Damage attack similar to Kick.

nice HP/AC/low resist mod.

SAVAGE can work because of the high LH every 10 min. Otherwise it wont work.

Etheric Plate Set and Jewelry (best for warriors)

Wind Golem

Tunarian (extremely rare)

Master Crafted

lvl 60 PoS Quest Armor (best in the game)

Poison Tipped Weapons (Spear)

Lava Rock or Tunarian Sheild (they both have nice stats and 500+ AC)

try for those and they will modify you extremely well.

Were-Forms:

Gator--AC BUFF and Str (always needed)
Lion--Agi, sta, str what else do you need
Wolf--can work but str, sta but not the recomended

CMS: (i dont recomend getting all jus as much as you need/want)
(you also need MC req.)

General/Archtype

Archtype-

Battle Hardened (sta mod)
Soldier's Grace (agi mod)
Soldier's Toughness (sta mod)

General-

Vigor 1-5 (sta max)
Nimbleness 1-5 (optional) (agi max)
Godborn (optional) (+25 max to all stats +5 to all stats)

Warrior:

Thank you for emphasizing the need for resists to MT a mob, for you who think its all about HP ill make an example. Parathior (the CLW epics final mob) will do a cold based AoE every minute or so, with minumum CR this will do about 1k each time, but with my CR jewelry set on it did 150-200. Oh and i noticed after maxing my AR then going to farm CT it did nothing, so the bloods they do are unresistable, just some knowledge

with all the cm's that are available, and with the gear out there that has resists on them.. my question is this...

what would a good base resist be? and if we were to choose two or three to buy cm's for which two or three would you do?

i am a troll SK that is going savage... i do not know ANYTHING about MT'n. i dont expect to be the best but i would like to hold my own. and MT some of the mobs.

wisdom is also go for a pally, it is a mod on their undead abilities.

Okay its a good post, but i think there should be some adjustments.

For warriors.

Dont stack ANY str, as you do not need it. Main stats for a warrior are sta/agil/wisdom. Stamina and agil should be 300+ bases, and wis close behind at 60(thats if you do not stack any other attributes.)Need alot of wisdom for that deefender ac buff. Oh, and Defenders get that droped spell, it makes you already awesome ac buff, twice as good. I also sugest go taunt path, because the AC buff stacks. Ohh and the wisdom will alos mod your resist, but im not sre it stacks with a clr resist.

For SKs.

Dont go over 200 str. Plan out your cms so that you put the least amount of tps into str. I sugest not stacking int at all, for the life tap proc usually is resisted by most high end mobs, and your not going lood path ;]. Stack some wisdom, for your resist, at least 100 base. Get your sta to 300+ base and agil to 250+ base at least. NOTE: You will not MT as well as a Warrir, or a paladin. ohh and go taunt path, the AC will help you alots.


For palys.

Dont stack any str, as you do not need it for guardian. str, agil, wisdom are your best friends. Char should not be ignored, since i think your heals are modded by it(if theyre not, then foget char). Taunt path definately. and always have LoH ready to go.

Okay here are a few alternate routes.

Savage.

You say it cant MT well, well io say it can(well when the MT dies it can take over;]). You get the HP(dont tell me its not important) and you dont get the str ;].
For a savage (SK) Dont stack any str, stay with sta/agil/wisdom. in that order. The Direct heal is VERY good. Its a LoH every 10 mins. You also get the HoT from savage, which will help you very little lolz. Taunt path definately.

Crusader(sideline).

Gets bad *** stack heals, so you can spam the MT with heals. Go AC pact path, lets any paly/DK have the AC of a defender(with out the Defendr drtoped spell =]). Ohh and high char (heal mods)

SKs are pretty useless during Raids... only thing they can do is be the puller(unless you want to MT and thewres no warrior around). And its the truth. They could possible tank as well as a paly, but they dont get the LoH(cept savage).



Okay to sum it all up, STA/AGIL/WIS is all the stats you need attribute wise, try for most AC you can get, Maxout those resists, KNOW your enemy(resist and what not), have a good Faith resist path, and have about fiddy leben necros behind you.

Ohh and alays have your sta/agil maxed out, and wisdom for a defender (or come close).

Bad weapon to have, The dot will break root.

PoD weapon quest reward for tanks is a 1 handed cleaver with 700dmg 200hp. Dont remeber exact name atm.

Not too big on the jewerly, black sapp would be better.
Plate aint too shabby just low ac.


May I also recommend stamina of the gods, ripper earring, gold ingot earring, ring of ageas, ring of destiny, lavasteel tower, sword of rain, Gladiator bp, worldbreaker bp, firepit insignas, Tainted bp.

Not neccasarily, depends on how your character is built.
Wind golem has more ac, but fewer hp than it.

Also remeber the werewolf forms add hp in the second and third form.

Yes and no. You have to find a good balance between resists and tank stats.

Str gives more mana per point on warriors than wisdom. And it also mods your taunts, if you cant keep the mob on you then no point in building a mt.

Sta, Agi, Str, Wis for a mt.

Sta, str, agi, dex if you a more balanced grind tank.

No they dont. If defenders have the plague quest ability, Immortal skin, then a mca is opened that mods this too 1000ac plus wis mod. Spell only drops off Bertoxxlous's dragons now.

Taunt path doesnt do that great, 1000ac boost last about few mins at best.

When I releveled my tank I made him with the fact in mind that I wont be mting. Maybe tanking a few hard raid or quest mobs, but nothing beyond that.

If something hard comes along Ill max a resist out with jewerly, but as for building my tank I made him well balanced. Putting most of my stats in str and sta but not forgetting agi and dex.

Self buff with call to victory I have 463str 510sta 388agi 266dex
6180hp 1830ac
This is with only having the soldier mc requirements bought. No vital bodies bought or any other hp cm.

im slow on CMs right now. i got (no buff) 297 str, 540 sta, 265 agi, 65 dex, 125 int. 6300 HP no buff. I still need VB 5, hearty 2,3 and Vigor 5.

i jus tanked the whole rain chain with me, 60 nec (for 1/2 of it), 60 Cleric, and 60 Sensai. Plz dont ever say that again. Living proof is me and Onyxia. Also Redline.
