City of HeroesFollow

Since City of Heroes is now in Beta and is expected to be released at the end of April 2003, I was wondering if there is any chance that Allakhazam might set up a Game Community for it?

Muuuuuhahahahaha! I got into beta today for CoH. Sure, they are wiping beta accounts in two days but I still get two days to check it out for free.

started beta last night. this game is awesome. so many options for customizing your character, tons of options for powers and even more for customizing them. graphics are decent and the quests are fun.

i hope alla supports this game soon, as it is almost as fun as FFXI in my opinion...just more reason for me to keep my EQ toons retired.

It doesn't seem like a game that needs spoilers like we do. I don't think we will have a site.

It is a lot of fun. And having such lenient lvl restrictions for grouping is a really nice change after FFXI's heavy penalties. Want to play with a friend who just started after you've been playing awhile? np! Instead of babysitting him, make him your sidekick and play together!

I love the ability for such complete customization. Not only in appearance but in power sets and enhancements. Truly, no two players are exactly alike. Unlike most games, 'odd' group combinations can work very well. No more sitting around for hours waiting for "a cleric/whm" or "a tank".

Playing solo is an extremely viable way to lvl. Most mission are short and even if you only have 30 minutes to play, you can log off feeling as if you've accomplished something. You can tackle a mission alone np, if you bring along a friend, the game takes that into account and increases the number of bad guys to fight, making it harder.

Not sure how the high end game will play out and I hope they find a way to implement villians as a playable type. But it's a really nice concept and it's great to have a MMORPG that's not based in D&D.

Too bad, I think you would do a great job on City of Heroes. There is so much quest info and areas that your site would give players help and assistance on.

wrong I've been playing for a week now and I can tell you I need help with this game already.
the things that could really help out are:
Quest shown by contact and by level.
Mob locations for each zone (including gang affiliation).
enhansment eplanation/combinations.
detailed maps with all the contacts shown.
a detailed chart to show which area to go for each level range.
a bestary with weaknesses to each type of attack (physical, mental, energy, etc.).
a command chart to show all the typed commands (the booklet shows only the basics others have been added in since and i'm sure more will be also).
several forums where we can share info and have a couple set aside for like character skins for famous heroes and such.
Finally we can use a guide/chart for the jobs/type of heros we make.

I forgot we need a boss chart too showing where all the named arch villians and big bosses are.

I dunno, I kind of agree with Alla. In EQ, you get a quest like:
"I could perhaps fashion a weapon, but I'll need some form of canine fang, something to tie it with and some strange green ore that I've heard about"

And then you have to find out somehow that the canine fang is "A dirty tooth" of a rare spawn in Chardok, the thing to tie it with is "waxed string" you get from a subquest in Plane of Fear and the green ore is a ground spawn off in some corner of Timerous Deep, under 40' of water.

In City of Heroes, you get told "You need to get the magic ring back from the Skulls in King's Row!" and then you get a big star showing you the way to their hide out, a red arrow telling you the distance and the crate holding the ring glows like it's radioactive.

Some stuff would be nice such as a bestiary and some power info, but all in all I don't think it could flesh a site like Alla's EQ or FFXI sites.

"Go Kill 10 skulls in Kings Way"

where is the red arrow?
how do I know where the skulls there hang out?
how do I know what level skulls are there and which area should the ones my level be in?

"Investigate the strange happenings in the park"
no red arrow
no idea where to go in the park
no idea what to look for

these are just some examples of missions I've gotten without red arrows. It may supprise you to know the higher levels you get with the game the less help they give you.

The guide alone for the enemys and contacts could fill up an entire site too.
what enemys drop this enhansment
what enemys drop this inspiration
what enemy is in this location
what gang is NW of this area
what is this enemy's weakness
what is this enemy resistant against
how many enemies are on this mission
where is this contact
what enhansments does this contact sell
what level trust does this contact require
what missions does this contact give/ at what level
which contact/contacts does this contact lead me too
how do i start an effective SG

I can keep going forever.

Also it would be cool to have the story arc flowcharted.

With the program they use for EQ Character updater it would be great if they used it to create log files for CoH.

So much they could do if they wanted to.

I've been enjoying it. I find it more "shallow" in scope than Everquest which is a good thing and a bad thing. It doesn't have the wide variety of weapons, armors, spells, etc that EQ has since there is no equipment -- you just have your superhero powers. On the other hand, the pace is a lot faster and it's just fun to have the different setting.

I wrote a sorta-write up on it in describing it to Psychojester in the EQ forum -- thread is titled "Jophiel, a little help?" or something like that. It's not really a review or anything, but it might give you an idea of what the game is all about.

This game is balls!!! Best $70+ (I bought a guide with it too) I ever spent. Now, if someone could tell me how to Macro Follow with Brawl, that would be killer.

BTW: Look me up on Virtue:
Brikk House - Mutant Tanker (Stone)
The Jade Sentinel - Tech Defender (Buffer)
Kold Shouler - Magic Blaster (Ice)

Edited to add the other reason why I posted this.Smiley: grin

As far as not having an AllaKhazam site, I think that would kinda be a big loss. If nothing else, at least a forum and section to list Origins, Archetypes, Enhancements, and Influences. The cityofheroes.com site forum is just too ****** to try and deal with.
