What a crock... if it wasn't for my sliced armor and weapons I wouldn't be a staff sargent in the Imperial Army....

Spices I can agree with.

Lol the Devs are going to shoot themselves in the foot with this patch.

First time someone gets thier >300k armor taken from them becaused its sliced, they are going to get pissed and quit :p

Hopefully they will implement imps being able to refuse to pay the fine and kill the storm troopers. Perhaps having a bounty put on their head or being forced to neutral staus after the tef wears off

Look at it this way...Spices can be seen as "performance-enhancers", like athletic steroids or whatever. The use of such enhancers are strictly controlled, and in some cases, banned or made illegal.

Sliced Weapons/Armor also create an environment full of people taking an unfair advantage over others. Grant it, I am guilty of using a sliced weapon or two over the course of playing SWG, and it DID make a difference in playing the game. But, thinking back, it does make me feel as if I've cheated. I know it was in the game to be used, but I shouldn't have to use them to play better. The DEVS implemented sliced weapons to try and balance a VERY UNBALANCED COMBAT SYSTEM.

Keeping with the Star Wars Universe, slicing was only for computer systems, NOT weapons/armor. Most of the Slicers in the stories/books were used to open locked doors, reroute computer information, and maybe cause a ship or a droid to go haywire. They did not change weapons to work better.

Now, if the devs allowed the weaponsmith/armorsmiths, and all crafters likewise, to use a better experimentation system, rather than using points and hoping for a good outcome, there could be modified weaponry/armor. In the Star Wars books, it was common to find individuals with modified weapons, like Han Solo, or in the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Synxxnex and his illegel Double Blaster. These were illegal simply due to the fact that they were too powerful for the average citizen, and the Empire could not allow citizens to carry weapons more powerful than their stormtroopers :)

Just my few cents...

well slicing is illegal so yes, mabey they could just "unslice it" so all u have to is find aanother smuggler. but rember the empirer ban blasters to so if we want get tecnical... And btw spices weren't illegal while the rebublic were in tact

From what I understand there will be NPC Stormtrooper patrols and if you run into them when you have any sliced item EQUIPPED then you will be TEF'd and attacked (I haven't heard exactly how they're going to deal with spices).

I have a full suit of composite armor and every piece of it is sliced. Every weapon I own is sliced. So all I have to do to avoid being hassled (I am covert reb) is unequip my weapon and change out of my armor. Or I can leave it all equipped and have a Stormtrooper BBQ :)

The only exception I've heard about is that if you're a high enough ranking Imperial officer then you can have sliced items equipped and the stormtroopers will "turn a blind eye". Sort of realistic, reminds me of our current administration in the White House actually.

I actually see this patch as being one of the better ones that are going to be implemented. Because it actually gives Smugglers a role in the game, THEY actually have to smuggle things. I see the Imperial Crackdown as an actual enhancment to the gameplay, because to me it will give a more Star Wars feel to the game, epsecially concerning the GCW, and the smuggler profession.

As far as slicing being only referred to in the Star Wars universe, yes it mainly concerned computer slicing, security etc. But as far as slicing weapons I see it more as customizing armor, and weapons, to give better properties. Maybe the Devs should change the slicing weapon/armor to "Weapon/Armor customization" or something like that.

I only hope that the devs continue to work on things like the Imperial Crackdown, in order to enhance the feel of the game even more. For example maybe they would enhance the missions and quests a little more, make it more involved than just running back and forth and killing critters...

Is it an enhancement? Not sure about that... If I end up with all my stuff removed and have to replace it because it is sliced, I'm not sure I can look at it as enhanced.

Since I've seen Empire droids out on battlefields, I'm looking at having the 'sliced' problem at anytime. Losing my gear or a battle over it at any time would def take away from game enjoyment for me, not enhance it.

I can see why you are concerend, and I wouldnt like it much either, but they are trying to give the game a little more content... And i dont think if anyone is sure right now on what exactly happens when you get caught with sliced weapons and armor, maybe they just fine you or attack you. I couldnt see the devs implementing it to where you get your gear takin away, as I think everyones would be taken, as Im pretty sure almost everyone gets their armor and weapons sliced, Including myself (although only my vibro knucks are sliced, cant wear armor :p). But I guess this is SOE we are talkin about here so who knows...

Imperial Crackdown

If Imperial Search Parties find contraband on your character and you are...

Imperial, the penalty is:

Overt Imperial Officers: None. All junior officers will salute their superiors.
High Rank Covert: High Ranking officers will be acknowledged and saluted as directed by the Emperor.
Low Rank: (Identified as having little or no Faction Points spent on Rank): Low Ranking officers found in possession of contraband must pay tribute to the Emperor. Low ranking Imperial soldiers will be given the choice of sacrificing Faction Points or paying a fine.

Rebels, the penalty is:

Overt: Imperial Search party will open fire as per orders of the Emperor.
Covert: Covert Rebels will be identified to all surrounding Imperials (Turned Overt)

Neutral, the penalty is:

Imperial Citizens will be warned and lose faction points or be fined.

I agree with the last poster, read the update notes before posting.

You can just pull your rank and the stormies will walk right by.

FYI..I heard that if you have a droid and store your sliced stuff on it, they wont be able to detect them in the scan.

My R2 droid has a 10 slot capacity....enough for a full set of armor and a weapon or two.

No need for smugglers to carry your stuff to and fro, just put them on your droid.

Or,........when the imps come around AH cantina it's going to be a turkey shoot and a very nice way to increase FP's..

Oh shoot thats so lame! This added content and suppense is just gonna totally damage the AOL chatroomish vibe that permeates settled areas. I just don't know if thats something I want to happen god have mercy. I can't just walk around carelessly chatting and jeering at others as easily as before. That I'm so gonna miss why do they have to make us look over our backs for? When did the heroes of the movies ever have to do that sheesh!

I hate to tell you bud, but Luke and the starwars characters were all loking over there backs, especially when they weren't out in public. Luke because at first like his sister he was a rebel. Han because he was a smuggler on the run from chewbaca. Later Luke is afraid VADER will even sense him on his ship while passing near him in space. Shoot Obi-1 (I don't remeber how to spell it) is hiding out in a safe house in abscurity on tantooine, while Yoda does the the same else where. So no I disagree, having to keep an eye on whats behind you is the StarWars way. Later in the books it gets even worse as the Republic takes open power and the Empire beomes forced to rely more on assasins and spies, where as they had used overwhelming power and numbers to brute strength their way through problems. Yep in the days of the Rebellion it could even be said that it was easier to watch your back because you could see the massive StarDestroyer comminf or feel the Earth Shake as the AT-AT's moved towards your shield generators.

So to make a long story short,(too late). Fear, espionage, and garilla warfare is what fuels the action component of the Starwars galaxies. If you don't want to be afrain, don't go outside stay in your home and be a chef, or make droids or something, but what ever you do don't walk out your door, because if you say your innocent the Emps will think your a Rebel Spy, and the Rebs will think you an Emp Sell out.

If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem, and if your not looking over your shoulder what are you trying to hide behind false security and innocence.

Sorry Jerok, your right with Sarcasm I completely agree with your statements.

And as for Han I know he wasn't being chased by Chewie, He had a bounty placed on his head for botching a spice smuggling job. Give me some slack I am multi tasking while at work here.
