I dunno what wrong's with your PS2, but my launch release PS2 (October 26th, 2001) works just fine with EQOA:F, just as it did with EQOA. I have heard many complaints about the older PS2s and disk reading problems, but I have yet to have any such problem with mine.

probly just the age of the machine that is your problem not the version of it

many of the laser reading parts go out after year

mine is about 1 year 5 months old nad i dont have problem

always run a lense cleaner thru it every oncein a while

also, dust is an enemy of the PS2, keep it off the ground and in a well aired out area

the lil dusters u can buy to dust the air vents in your car or truck work well onthe ps2 lol

Before you buy a new PS2 try this link. I was having disc read errors and I thought mine was going on the blink and a friend told me about this relatively easy solution. You make a minor adjustment to the positioning of the laser eye and clean it. Its not really that hard.

I was about ready to chuck my PS2 and get an XBox and I havent had any problems since I did this.

The same thing happened to me when i got the game. I had one of the old old ps2s, and played for a while unitil i kept on gettin the disk read error. I tried the laser cleaner CD thing but didnt help, but i used the same netowork adapter and stuff. It wasnt until that i found out that the laser probably got bumped out of place. You could maybe get that fixed, if thats the problem, somewhere(no idea where though). But even if you did buy a new PS2 you woulndt need a new adapter. And like the posts above me, try to keep dust our of the PS2, by sucking it out of the filter thing(dont blow in because that just puts it in there)

Hope this helps

Yes people, try that link I posted!! You dont have to buy a laser cleaner disc or a new PS2. Just take out the screws and clean it with a q-tip and some alcohol and adjust the position with the little white wheel and Whala!! no more disc read error.

yes..i have tried that before..if it doesnt work though.....it screws it up so bad u absolutly have 2 get a new one so if i were you pay 50$ and get it professinelly looked at or cleaned, or what not. you have too spwnd money but its better than ruining your PS2.

and no i'm not saying your wrong or nothing jam.

If you follow the instructions and do it right the first time you wont ruin it. Its not that hard. I did it to mine and havent ever had any problems since.

If in fact that is the problem. Maybe you had a different problem. The problem I had and that alot of people have with disc read error is that after hours and hours of playing time the laser eye will sometimes move slightly out of place and cause it not to read the disc properly. Sony put a little adjustment wheel in there specifically for this purpose. Also like any cd player or dvd player the lens must be cleaned periodically. I find it cheaper just to do it myself, but thats just me. So if you want to spend 200 bucks on a new system or pay someone to do the same thing, be my guest.

LOL punchy hasnt been a bad monkey on this thread eithier...whats wrong with you?......anyway if it does say disk read error...you bumped the laser or burned the laser out...sometimes though if you use the waiting stance on the ps2 it will fry the laser..and it cant read purple back disks, and ps1 disk's..if it s\does this you are screwed..becasue the laser is flip up...eithier replace the laser..or throw the ps2 away..
