This might be my own fault, but I just had a guy named "Gollem" on the Ahazi server steal two weapons from me. He is posing as a Slicer and when you give him his weapons to get sliced he takes them and runs. Anyone have any idea's on how I can get revenge on this loser?

Yes report him. He may get his account cancelled if enough people report him.

This is happening WAY TOO often. I wish there was a way to prevent this.

The Master Weaponsmith I use has a Master Smuggler he works with to offer a large supply of already sliced weapons.

Always deal with master smugglers only, less chance they want to ruin their rep

Check their tag

I would hope that "reporting" doesn't accomplish anything. This "phonie" just adds realism to the game. I'm amazed more people don't do it. You are dealing with a "smuggler" after all.

Let the buyer beware!

I would hope reporting DOES do something.

Be persistant, and follow up on tickets. If it isn't answered today add to it the next day with:

I would like to know when my ticket will be answered. Scamming people hurts the game, please fix this ASAP.

If you are persistant you will get a CSR response. Without a report they can do little. Make sure to get stuff in the report.

Make sure you type in /say Here is x and x, please slice them for me and return them and then I will pay you.

Get the smuggler to say OKAY or acknowledge the trade.

THAT IS THE PROOF YOU NEED!

Then when you report a scam and they check it they see some evidence and the person will get a warning and if they did it before they will get banned.

Also do not trade stuff for slicing all at once, do it piecemeal.

Well thanks for the advice guys. They were only two average melee one-handed swords anyways. It just frustrated me when it happened. I guess i'll just keep an eye out for now on.
Thanks

How about as an update there should be a TEF style attackability between the smuggler and the trader.
So.. this would mean if the smuggler makes a move the trader can knock him out or if unsuccessful and the smuggler could literally mug the guy he is trading with.. but!! the imperials will be notified and stormtroopers chase him down, maybe- he could always escape into the shadows in which case you have been a victim of an everyday reallife crime

If so this could be a crime that is noted down by the stormtroopers chasing the smuggler and you can claim back a pre designated monetary sum from an insurance terminal :)

Watcha think? Idea might need to be tinkered with but its a thought to make it more interesting than a big boring 'safe trade'n'slice' window (yawn) lol

oh and if the stormtroopers catch the smuggler then thats were the fun could start!
You could give the smuggler options like a temp game ban for like 4/5RL hours or an extortionate fine or a massive DB from the stormtroopers that does loads of wound damage.

Better still (im on a roll here!!) there could be galaxy top 10 most wanted smugglers who have ripped people off the most times and escaped, if you see one you could target them and do a report style command which will send down a contingent of stormtroopers to try and apprehend them.
If they get caught the person who sent the report first gets a cash reward and maybe 'good citizen' badge.
Obviously the more times you have committed a smuggler theft the worse your punishment could be but i suppose it would need a cap eg. max 24hour ban or max 250K fine or max 1-1-1HAM wounds.

Ooooh new punishment, being totured by the empire so you lose skill points!

The potential for this :D ... maybe :S

Hi. I normally only look at posts in this forum, but i felt the need to respond to this one.
My character is Golem, on the Ahazi server, and i just wanted to make sure that i wasnt the one that you were referring too.
I am a master doc and master combat medic, and have never gone around posing as a slicer trying to steal peoples weapons.
I realize that many names can be similar, but i dont want my characters name dragged through the mud.
I hope that you do find the guy that stole the wepons from you and get your retribution.
Best of luck to you in the future.

I heard that Luke was upset when Han Solo was frozen in Carbonite (sp?), he complained to the writers, and they banned Jabba from the universe. Same thing happened to Lando, but it was only temporary. The Empire was also scamming when their second Death Star was operational long before it was supposed to be. For that they were banned from the universe also.

Whine away!

WTFHAX: not really..... some honorable people who have played the game for about 4 months get scammed.

Theoneiwantedwastaken: Ummmm yeah........ but SOE doesn't like that kind of "realism"

Kareeth: Couldn't agree more!

It's unfortunate that reporting them does nothing... 1: SOE normally doesn't even get to your complaints 2: They do nothing! (or they didn't in Oct.)

PS: To a very lesser degree... that is Cyber-theft, and if no body helps you, check with the FBI if it is illegal (though I doubt it is worth going after him for)

PPS: that actually sounds kind-of-good omutuma.....

Does that even make sense?

Its hard to believe that the whole slicing thing was implemented in the way it is by mistake.

You have to hand over your stuff and hope you get it back.. the chance you will be robbed and can nothing about it must have been known since beta.

So it must have been intended to promote thieves, general dishonesty and lack of trust in the game community as part of the 'fun interactive gameplay'.. ?! Well, I don't find it fun, judging by the amount of posts about this subject I'm guessing a lot of other people don't either. If the majority don't find it fun then shouldn't it be changed?

Personally, I only buy pre sliced weapons and armour. None of my friends are slicers and I just can't trust anyone else. Shame.

The SOE support team are always stipulating "Make sure you check what you are getting before you click the ok button in trade. Only trade when you know you are getting what you wanted! If you don't we can't help you as its your own fault."

How exactly does that work for getting your stuff sliced then when its implented in the way that is!!??

Ok, I'm going to go lie down now.

Most MMOs try to become a micro-casium of society. By having theifs and liers add to the realism. Let me state a few things.

Do I condone this behavior? Hell no!

Do I feel bad when someone gets scamed? Of course I do.

Do I respect peoples right to play dishonestly? Yes I do!

You need to protect your self. The secure trade system in place is there for your protection. People must know what they are doing when they give out stuff of value. This is such an easy thing to prevent. No one NEEDS their weapons or armor sliced. It's nice to have it done, but not worth the risk of losing your gear. If you haven't heard of the player be careful. Ask around, listen to friends, and if you have any boubt, walk away.

P.S. I know this may conflict with the post I made earlier. The best way to prevent this is being careful. After a lot of thought I have decided the system dosen't need be be changed. People just need to be better informed and smarter with thier valuables.

I think it does need to be changed.

Make the slicers be able to slice the items in a neutral window (sort of a cross between the trade window and the image designer's window option). If the guy doesn't pay the slicer the money agreed upon the slicer doesn't click the agreement box and the changes dissapear. Of course to keep people from abusing this (keep saying no till you get the slice you wanted) the slice result isn't made known until the slice/payment is finished.

Seems pretty simple to me.

As long as people are getting scammed, I'm going to tell SOE to do something for this....
Perhaps there could be a way were it never leaves YOUR inventory, like razira said.

There is nothing that ANYONE can say to make me think this is right or people HAVE the right to do this.

I'm might go an check with the FBI to see if this activity is illegal (and nobody can support illegal stuff, lol)

my dear god!! enough allready.

yes you lost 2 1handed swords.
you made a mistake and someone screwed you.
dont let it happen again, observe before you hand over your stuff.
if you ask me you are not a good roleplayer, immerse yourself in the game. if i walked up to you in RL asked for your carkeys and said i would make your car run better would you give me the keys?
exercise a little caution. use your head.

the other guy was smarter than you. im not saying he's that smart either. learn from your xperiences.

Congratulations you have qualified for Common Sense 1,
now find the trainer and get trained.
