Is there an alternative to Bulk Armor? Clothing? Socket?Follow

#1 Jan 30 2004 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
I am a jack of all trades solo-player, and to be honest I hate armor! I can't afford anything as quality as composit, and honestly I don't truly apreciate the effects of any armor I have tried when compared with the encumbrance it places on my character. Is there a clothing or other miscellaneous alternative to weighing my other wise medium build character down with armor. Yes I do use personal shield generators, I think they are great as long as they last. Which isn't very long. Maybe I should have played a Wookie, but I just couldn't get into the being furry aspect, so I am playing a human.

By the way can I repair my items that have become unusable, and if so how.

Oh, and What is a socket and how do I use it?

Sorry to add to my own thread but I thought of a few more questions.

1) Is Peace meal armor really effective. For instance By wearing protective gloves and helmet do I increase my overall ability to resist certain forms of damage or only certain forms of damage to my head and hands.

2) Are multiple armor peaces cumalative in effect, for instance if I am wearing both personal shield generator, and a full set of armor does each peac of armor add a percentage to a total protective score, or is each peace completely seperate. With a shield generator does the attack first have to penetrate the shield and then the armor, or does one supercede the effect of the other.

3)Does duck and cover work, I often try to put a tree, a rock, a hill etc... between myself and my npc opponent, does this effectively cover me from attack to the parts of my body that are shielded from view, or if part of me is showing is my whole body open to attack.

You can get clothing that has been made by a Tailor who has added Bio-Engineer components to it that will give it stats. Such as melee defense boost etc.. Unfortunately you may find this type of clothing rare as many arent bothering to actually make such things anymore and are just grinding.

Also seems most bio-engineers just make pets and not clothing attachments. This may be something do to with the rarity of milk, but I haven't done Bio so not sure.. does anyone know?

The only use you may get out of hiding behind a tree is that the NPC will lose its line of sight and have to move to hit you.. personally I have not seen this happen yet as even when I can't see them they still seem to be able to see and hit me just fine.

This is again all speculation as I don't wear armour (master artisan) at all but I would say the effect of wearing just gloves gives you and overall armour rating, not just a rating against your hands being hit... I don't even think such a thing as targetting just hands is even possible. Speculating the armour rating for multi pieces of armour is indeed added up to give you an overall rating... if not, what would be the point of wearing more than one piece?

You can loot clothing attachments off npc's that may have stats on them, these you can then drag and drop onto any piece of clothing that has a socket to add that stat to the clothing. I looted a +1 to melee attachment the other day and added it to my smock for giggles.

Finally, Artisans can make weapon, armour and clothing repair tools that you can use to repair these items. Just make sure it is a good quality tool (at least 90% or above) and you may want to give the item to the repective class to repair it for you. I don't know if the individual classes (ie: weaponsmith, armoursmith and tailor) actually get a better chance to repair these items or not but can't hurt to ask.

Do all types of clothing have sockets, and if not which kinds do?

Is it possable to have a different number of sockets on the same kind of item depending on its crafted effectiveness?

If I am looking for bio-engineered or tailered components to put on my clothing sockets, what kind of stats should I expect and or be looking for.

Are there any quests I can go on to find enhanced clothing, or clothing with sockets, or components to place in a socket.

hey syljon, seems the artisan got every question wrong. i can tell u as an avid composite wearer myself armour can be very valuably especially in pvp, yes they totally lower your secondariesbut the % of damage removed from them is simply amazing, lik my is 80% kinetic, 71%electricity 64% everything else, and the total ham drain is 330 so i still have some to make my specials not horrible to use, if you arent in pvp or doing alot of stuff that drains your stats besides fighting like healing for instance take the armour off definately, or that 80mind drain heal will turn into a 150 mind drain heal.

Shield generators are good by themselves but dont expect them to last longer than 1 hour of fighting, they do not stack with armour so u cant have a 70%armour with a 30%shield gen of the same effectiveness and get 100% otherwise there would be alot of badasses running around invincible.its either 1 or the other.

socketed clothing is of course made by tailers, not all clothing is socketed it has to do with the results of their experimentation. some clothes have 1 2 3 or 4 sockets depending, and that is how many skill tapes u can add to the clothing. as for bio engineer clothes. they can only enhance several stats ill list them. and usually alot better than any skill tape you will find. bleed defence. warcry. entertainer healing. injury treatment and speed.camouflage a couple of defences like stun. not melee or ranged defence. and al the stats usually are +10 to +25 increase. and are built into the clothing. and if u happen to run into an armour attachment. it is the same as a clothing one but u can place it into and piece of armour with a socket or more. oh and if you are looking for skill tapes? besides looting which is always hit or miss especially now it is extremely rare. go to a cave on any secondary planet. i got 27 skill tapes in a cave 2 days ago in one night. on a secondary planet. they arent loots rather constantly spawning in piles of debris or in containers... if i have missed anything ill try to write again to fill in the blanks. hope i could help :)

Thanks sidius for the site, however it doesn't really answer any of my questions. There are a lot of great pictures, giving me an you the player a lot of options for dress and color scheme, but what I really want to know is what will allow me to work in the field better not look better in the cantinas. I was really lookinf for more information on how to protect my @$$, not sell it on the corner.

The site I will have to admit is a good one, if you are wondering what a character will look like in an outfir before you purchase it.
