I crafted a fishing pole with my general crafting tool, I then tried to proceed to use sed fishing pole to no avail. What do I have to do to use the fishing pole, and secondly what can using a fishing pole do for me. Can I catch fish, and if I do will I then be able to eat sed fish, and will they buff any of my abilities?

Dude its all messed up right now. I had a fishing pole that worked and I accitdently destroyed it. Now every pole I make is bugged. No its not supposed to be some annoying mysteriously difficult task. Its supposed to cast and make a splash when after you load your bait on the pole then click start fishing. But right now the UGH!!! He just stands there, no splash, no cast, and it says you begin fishing but no UGH! no fishing window comes up like its supposed too, then you click on pole again with the "start fishing" option still there, you click that, he reels it in. Now your pole thinks that its still fishing cause it now will say "stop fishing" when you've already stopped fishing by clicking "start fishing" and your pole is now worth as much as a jammed crafting tool. Blah! Its just all glitched out is what I'm trying to say. /grumble /rant

I really wanted to experiment cooking with cause I hear fish does some killer stuff when used in food. Now.. Idk. I doubt fishing will ever be fixed soon its not really priority ya know?

Forget casting and actually fishing, what do you use for bait and how do you load the bait to begin fishing. I haven't even gotten to the casting and fishing part yet.

You have to forage the bait and then you just drag it to pole. Sorry my bad. But it might work for you cause I read someone else had this problem and I was fishing fine, before I destroyed my pole. You can find bait on bazaar sometimes. I sell mine according to volume- 50 per bait. But I've seen alot of really absurd prices for bait before. When you catch a fish and fillet it (nothing special required) you get chum bait + fish units. The chum bait is supposedly the best bait I think I saw the difference. When you fish, try to fish in shallow water so when you do catch something, you can run out to it- you can see a red bobber. You can just wait and try to reel it in but thats chancy. Might as well run out to it. Cause once the red bobber is near you the fish is caught. But if you start swimming you loose it. Also, wait to start running to it after you see the message "you begin to reel in cath" cause if you run out too son you loose catch also. I heard a rumor fish has been bought for like 50-100 cpu. I usually just sold mine on auction unfilleted according to size, so a .5m fish would be sold for 500.

How do I forage for bait. I have medical forage which as I have stated in a previos post is worthless, how do I get scout foraging.

The way its supposed to work:

Forage your bait or buy some. Buy a good quality fishing pole from an artisan (the overall quality of the pole is supposed to help your chances at catching a fish).

Drag the bait onto your pole the same way you drag powerups onto your weaps etc. Your pole can be equipt with more than one unit of bait, just drag the whole stack onto it (highest stack ive seen is 5 units of bait).

There is no need to select the poles radial menu to fish, simply type /fish and you will start fishing.

Once your line is cast a window is supposed to pop up which will say "waiting" at the top. This window also has your bait condition, amount of vegetation in the water and fish density which all effect your chance to catch something. The ideal spot is one that has 5 stars next to fish density and no stars at all next to vegetation.

After a short while you will (hopefully) get a "Nibble", when this happens you need to select the various options at the bottom of this window which read "Tug Up" "Tug Left" "Tug Right" etc.. Just click on any combination of these one at a time and either hit Enter or just click ok. You are trying to make sure you have an action for every "tick" of the window until you will either see "Bite!" or "Waiting" appear up the top of the window again.

If its "waiting" then you just go back to doing nothing until you get a "Nibble". If its "Bite!", start doing the same as you did when it was a "Nibble", randomly select actions as fast as you can (i find the easiest way is to select tug right.. or whatever, with the mouse and then hit the Enter key). You keep doing this until hopefully you will get the "Caught Something" command. All you do then is select "Small Reel In" and the computer does the rest.

You will fight the fish to try and land it but its all automated at this point, you cant do anything but wait and see if you land it or it gets away.

Just to add to this...you don't really have to wait to get a nibble. I've noticed a pattern but it's not totally confirmed. I start with "up" then "right" then "left". You'll get "nibble", "bite" and "caught something" as the results of your actions. What you're looking for is almost like a combination lock. If one action gets a "nibble" then the look for the next action to get a "bite". If the second action doesn't trigger the bite, go back to the first action then pick a different action for the second. When you get the nibble-bite combo down, pick an action and keep your fingers crossed for the "caught something". Again, if you don't get it, start the sequence again and change the third action. Yes, I have too much time on my hands! :)

Oh yeah...don't fish from a bridge...you can keep a fish on the line for five minutes but you'll never reel it in.

I love fishing. It really helps us Scout/Rangers out. It gives us another way to get Wilderness Survival XP besides camping. It gives us something to do with all the bait we forage. We can then sell the fish fillets for cash and keep or sell the chum bait.

What I normaly do is gather a large supply of bait. Find a good spot to fish. Then fish till I run low on bait or get bored. I set up a camp and fillet the days catch while gain more Survival XP. Hit a Bazzar and sell my goods at about 75%-80% of the going rate, only after I fill my Guilds needs first.
