SWG has a wickedly high turnover rate for a MMORPG. If I were to guess, it is something like 66% after the 6 or so months. What they are trying to do is get the people who quit the game (because it sucked) to give it another try. If the people who quit it after the first 4 months come back and actually see the improvements, then SOE will get the monthly revenue again; if the people still don't like the game then nothing was lost.

The people at SOE are trying to do everything short of giving away the game to get people to continue playing month after month while they try to fix it up.

I forgot to add: Worlds of Warcraft (WoW) probably factored into this strategy too. WoW is supposed to announce their beta test within the next few weeks. From people that played it at the expos and trade shows, it seems far more stable then SWG is. SWG will probably have another exodus of subscribers if the subscribers get accepted into WoW's beta and those that have left before will be lost hopes for SOE to recapture. It is best to pre-empt WoW and try and scoop up as many subscribers as they can now, while they can. Pretty soon it is going to be a battle for the subscribers' dollars.

yeah im participating in that beta most definitely and the only thing that will keep me from buying game when it comes out is my current subscription to swg LOL

If SOE wants to win they will have to either a. lower monthly cost or b. duh! make the game less glitchy

they keep adding stuff in instead off fixing whats already broke!

I think the glitches Fitzilla is referring to are the general ones that people complain about: duping, common dropped connections, really laggy performance if they don't reset the servers daily, class balancing, lack of things that should have been in the game since launch (like milk), et cetera.

I don't agree that dropping the price is the way to go. They sold over 330,000 boxes, so there are alot of people willing to shell out money for the game and its premium monthly cost. I think they can get less people cancelling if they gave the game more challenging goals. Not everyone wants to destroy their character in order to unlock the force sensitive slot. If you just want to play with your starting character, you can max out his skill points and get the best equipment within a month or two of playing. After that, the game really doesn't have anything to offer besides superficial missions.

Well, I did a mission just last night on Lok and after I destroyed the lair it never actually completed the mission or payed me. It gave me the weapon experience, but kept the waypoint. I had to terminate it.

Kudos, Monserat.
You are (imo) right on the money. It is not a good sign, though, when 6 months after launch, you have to compete with the initial Beta test of another game that wont be out for what....at a minimum 6 mths? And that is being very optimistic.

Um, SOE, have you checked the weather forecast? Keep a watchful eye, for you may get snowed in by a Blizzard!

The problem with the game isn't the glitches. While most of them are annoying, it won't stop you from playing the game. The problem with the game is that its not that entertaining! There's very little content, and most of the time, I feel very isolated in this game, despite the fact that its an MMORPG. I've been doing alot of reading on WoW, and its 100% likely that I'll be switching to it when its released.

i've been doing alot of reading on WoW myself, and I'll probably be switching as well. I'm a big SW geek, but there is not enough content in the game to keep me entertained. Its not that hard to Master a profession if you really look at it, and the rewards for doing the game quests arn't anywhere near spectacular. I'm also dissapointed by most of the players. I'd say a good 40% of the people out there are just grinding their way to open that FSS and not really looking at it. The other day I had my RP flag on, like I usually do, and not a damn person would roleplay with me. I was hurt.... almost, I can usually find one or two people with enough imagination to RP, but the stock is growing thin.
If SOE wants to keep this game in motion, they have some serious work cut out for them.

Oh yeah, any news on the space expansion?

WoW announced today that beta signups begin Wednesday, January 28th at 9pm EST. I won't be suprised if SOE does something to try and steal the thunder and take all the buzz off of WoW's announcement. Making an announcement about their space pack or a new profession, maybe?
