starships, space, and piloting professionFollow

Has SOE or Lucas Arts released any information on live action space travel and star ships?

Since before the release of the game I have been following the production of SWG on the web and specifically the Lucas Arts website. From the beginning there were reports that eventually player owned starships and live action space travel would eventually be added into the game. The addition of speeders and swoop bikes gives me great hope for the future. The big question is when? Also if and when they do add the space/starship component will they then add new professions like starship engineer, and pilot, or even fleet commander?

Will the Artisans now have to craft starships as well as everything else. Imaginr the cred and resource cost. It would literally be astronomically costly to be an astronaut.

I dont mean to be a party pooper, but the vehicles didn't really impress me at all. They are too slow to begin with and are too basic. I think the Space layer is going to "look nice" and basically suck! I'll be you my account on it. Im hopin I am wrong, cause piloting an xwing or any spaceship would be cool, but the people at SWG have to dumb things out for the genereal masses. I Hope I am wrong on this one, I HOPE THE FORCE WILL BE STRONG IN SPACE LAYER!

With forfathers like the original x-wing/b-wing game and its sequal tie-fighter game space flight simulators it would be a real shame to ***** up the effects and play of space flight now. I guess it really depends on how much support or control soe vs Lucas Arts has over the game designat this point.

On another note, I really like the speeder bikes and can understand why it could be possible for only one person to ride one, but the hover car should deffinetly be able to hold two people. This function should be easy, join in a group and everyone in the group should be able to ride in the car, and preferrably groups of two could also ride on the speeder bikes, with the group leader or the vehicle owner at the helm. Also what is the deal with not being able to fire a weapon from he speeder bike or hover car. In Return of the Jedi the speeder bikes actually can equiped with a laser rifle.

When they do add space travel, however there has to be ships that can hold more then one person, ships for cargo like the falcon and ships for combat like x, y, and b-wings.

I wish we could but you could drive through imp towns shooting the crap out of them on a bike. With 2 people on the bike have a commando on the back with a flame thrower sparying the crowds as you drive by.

I just hope that with the space expansion there will be special missions for smugglers to SMUGGLE something! Do something with this profession I want to smuggle!

Hehe, if they let you shoot from vehicles, we would be surrounded by druids...i.e. as in EQ you would have the retardly powerful kiting classes (mainly druids but also wizards) killing 4 at a time creatures that a normal group would find challenging to hunt solo.

Personally there are times I would like to have weapons on the vehicles as well, but then I remember being a warrior trying to pull Hill Giants in a zone filled with kiting ******* druids and I remember why I don't mind not having them!

Can you imagine a poor TKA trying to run down a kiter on a bike? It is bad enough trying to get to those stinking eye-shot-spamming bounty hunters before they kill you!

im somewhat disappointed with the vehicles myself, but like them becasue its soooooooooo much better than walking everywhere. you cant zip through trees on a speeder when the trees dont pop until you are right in front of them, but eh, what can you do. the control is extremely simple, but i think that was the intention. but x34 needs to hold two people. you dont have to be able to shoot from it, but it would make up for it being so slow

as far as space, i dont see it being good. im so pessimistic, but just have doubts. i dont see it happening until before xmas next year. becasue its gonig to take awhile anyways, and it will create buzz for sales. i hope its good, i really do. im not a smuggler, but i feel for a smuggler that cant smuggle anything. it would be cool to own your own ship, but i want variety. i dont want every fool running around in a "slave 1" (sorry im not dorked out enough to know the model)ship, or a yt 1300. i want some big sluggish bulk cargo cruisers, some varied light cargo ships, a good number of fighters. but unless you are overt rebel or imp, you cant be flying a rebel or imp ship. no xwing for the politician. it just doesnt make sense. there are other fighters out there. i think star destroyers would have to be npc, too big. it would be nice to be able to run them with a crew of 6 (unrealistic i know) but that would just be too complicated for this game. oh im ramblnig now. this game needs space, its frickin star wars. we can dream...

The rumore are that freighters can transport 6 people at a time once they are available. Thats cool but what will costs be? Fuel, Repairs, batteries, all of that will be expensive. I want to fly the X-wings really bad. Hell even the A-wing would be cool. Yet it leaves me to wonder how will flight effect guilds and Faction members? I mean i have about a billion speculations but as we know SOE doesn't like taking the plain and simple choices.

Is anyone sure that they aren't going to work like the starships do now? You wouldn't have to use tix but once you get in the ship cutscreen until arrival at the new planet. Does anyone know for sure that you will be able to set a waypoint to another planet and fly there? Is that doubt in my voice ? Sounds great being able to fly these ships and all but couldn't you see SOE taking the easy way out on this one?

wouldnt it be awesome to have some monstrous starship be the HQ for a large PA. Or maybe be able to buy star destroyers in the same way you can purchase Reb/Imp HQ bases. Just plop a star destroyer in orbit around Corellia, and then see how long you can defend it from the pathetic rebels.

Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari StarCruisers, hell YES!! That would be ultra-sweet. But they would have to cost massive amounts of faction. I wonder if they will include Space battlegrounds, and if they do, I hope they make them a lot better than the current battlegrounds, cause right now they suck. The big thing I hope will happen will be the customization factor with space ships, upgrades, "tweaks" and the like. You know, being able to have a Gotroc freighter modified with a hyped-up engine, a whisper drive, smuggling compartments, and a pair of turbo-lasers with gunnery-targeting droids in them would rock! Woah, I think I went a little too far into the realm of geek with that statement. Anyway, I'm staying optomistic about the whole, after all, they have plenty of their original space flight games to work off of.
Just had a thought (amazing huh?). How are they going to work that into the game itself. I mean, are they going to expand starports so that people can land? Is it going to be the "universal" hanger so that only you can see you ship even though everyone is exiting from the same hanger or are they going to put in several hangers and have a limit for the number of ships at a city? These are the sort of questions that should be addressed. What about player cities? Is everyone going to be able to park their ships in the city's starport? Or even better, rent out spaces (citys make more money that way) to people and make them pay fees for takeoff and landing. Basic starport fees, 100 credits for refuel, clean, and mynock check, then another 100 for basic maintenance if you want if (some people might want to maintain their own ships.) which bring into question new place classes. Obviously pilot, but what about Gunner? Mechanic, who also has the ability to tweak starships and fix vehicles? A fleet commander I think should really be faction oriented, unless someone out there want to set up their own Pirate Orginization. That would be sweet, be the leader of the Void Wings, robbing freighters and the like, can you imagine the roleplay aspect of it? Oh yeah, the more I think about it, the better I like it.
