Ok, I am thinking about getting Everquest for the PS2. I played the PC version at a friends house, and my computer is so crappy so I couldnt get one of my own, so I want to get it for the PS2. I know that I need the game, a keyboard, an online connector or something, and pay 10$ a month.

I have an AOL dial up connection, will this be a problem to play Everquest or will I need to buy an expensive DSL adapter or something so there wont be any lag?

How much will the online connection for the PS2 cost?

Which Server should I go on?

The PS2 version is a little faster paced than the PC one. If you already have an ISP then all you will need is the network adapter for your PS2 and to pay the $10/month fee which you can either pay by credit card or buy 1 month game cards. As far as choosing a server when I first started playing the game suggested the Proudpine Outpost server so that is where I went and that is where I stay. Any server you choose will have people you like and people you won't. If anything you could play a day or two on one and see if you like it or not. Besides the $10 subscription fee for EQOA and your ISP there are no other online fees. Hope this provides some insight.

And also if you are using Aol you will have problems getting on your characters after level 10 or such so I strongly sugest you use enother sinternet provider or you won't be able to play right.

Well First of all You also need 3000 kbs of space on a PS2 memory card, any one will do. You do not need a keyboard but it is suggest since ther is a lot of chating and a Keyboard will make easier communicating, currently when communicating between group and guild. I suggest getting the guide, the frontiers one not the orginal one it stinks only shows the class for each class for first seven I think. The title is this ( this is proably dump but incase you get confuse)

EVERQUEST ONLINE ADVENTURE: FRONTIER

Heres a link, I dont know if it will work for you but it does for me althougth it is for the everquest classic.you need adobe acrobat reader. Its http://eqoa.crgaming.com/downloads/eqoabeta3manualv1.pdf

As far as itnernet connection you will be able to use AOL dail-up but I recommend using something else. DSL would be great since it dosent mess with the phone get rids of all lag caused by someone calling you or someone uses the internet PC if you network your connection using an ethernet network. For prices and services heres a link http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat01171&type=category

Now for the playing fee it $9.99. You can use a credit card or buy a game card at best buy or a video game store its also $9.99. And your first time you get 30 days free

I HOPE THIS HELP, AND GOOD LUCK, PLEASE RATE THIS HIGH

If you are going to use AOL, you need to call them to set up their "Gamer's Club" which is basically another way they can get 5$ more a month out of you.

Thanks for all the help guys, but I still have some questions.

Suminarian - I'm sorry I don't know what ISP is.

Why will I start having problems after level 10? So I need to get off AOL now?

Iceabc - Ok about the memory card and keyboard. Is EOA Frontiers the expansion pack or something? If yes, should I just go ahead and buy that or what? If I buy the Game Card at Best Buy, is it like an automattic pay or something? I don't think I will be able to get DSL because I heard it was expensive.

I have to call up AOL for the Gamers Club and cough up $5? What is that?

Thanks guys!

I'm not any of those people, but I can help.

-An ISP is an Internet Service Provider.
-I don't use AOL, so I don't know about that.
-Frontiers is NOT an Expansion Pack. You don't have to have the first evequest for the PS2 to play it.
-About a Game Card, it doesn't pay automaticly. You have to enter it. When you do get EQOA: Frontiers and log on, you can go into Manage Account. Find the billing option thing. You can select from Credit Card or Game Card. If you have a game card, you have to enter the number that is on it.

Hope that helps!

Frontiers is both, its depnds on wether you, you have eqoa classic or not. If you do its an expanison, if you dont its a full verison and an expanison

You dont have to have DSL, its only for better gameplay. Just be prepared for lag and some disconnections. As far as the aol gamer club I dont know when i was last playing I had some small local connection where I used to live I moved and havent been on since september. ARRrr I NEED MY MEMORY CARD those dumb movers packed all my PS2 games and memory cards I had LOL. I got every I need but a memory card !!!!

GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

the network adapter for the ps2 will run you around $30-$40 US dollars, depending on where you get it.

as for the AOL gamers club thing.. call AOL and tell them to shove that $5 where the sun doesn't shine, and tell them you will cancel the service if you cannot play your online games. they will give it you for free.

don't even bother to play if your going to use dial-up... just don't waste your time and money...
#13 Jan 04 2004 at 10:47 PM Rating: Default
Ok buddy...what do you mean wast your time. I played on dial up for a long time. Did you know they actually programed EQOA so you get the same connections dial up or modem. I just recently got modem and guess what..the load time is exactly the same. If you dont believe read that game pro from a long time ago. The ONLY ADVANTAGE of DSL, modem, etc is that you cant go linkdead. But you can still get the black screen of death or freeze, and YES you still lag.

Just wanted to throw this in. You do not have to pay the 5 bucks if your on aol, it's only an option that they offer. Also I would ask around and see if they got it fixed yet, there was some kind of a problem between the people at aol and the people at eqoa. Basically the two systems just don't like each other, and the people at both camps go back and forth blaming each other. The problem is called error 6. I actually cancelled my eqoa for a couple of months then broke down and got a second ISP (internet service provider) because I cant get rid of aol. One thing I always found amusing was, you but the game and use aol to play it. The box for eqoa says right on it AOL compatible, not sure about frontiers, I never thought to look on it. I think what it came down to was eqoa was trying a little to fix it, and basically aol doesn't give a **** about it because their main concern isn't for gaming it's surfing the net and perverts and losers in the chat rooms, LOL. I was told by someone that they had it working with aol now though, not sure. One last thing, the error 6 problem was being experienced by a few people who were not on aol, a few on earthling i remember, not sure of others. I signed up for earthling though and have never had a problem with error 6, have had a few other minor problems, freeze up, ... but were always fixed with a reboot. GL
