Finally some more exact info on how it's done.

http://deathknight.info/2008/07/unlocking-your-flying-mount-in-northrend/

Quote:
* Level up to 77.
* Speak to Weslex Quickwrench in Nesingwary Base Camp and do his questline if you didn’t do it yet, at this point you probably already completed it while leveling.
* Once the Spirit of Gnomeregan is repaired, speak to Professor Calvert and accept the quest.
* Go to Lakeslide Landing near River’s Heart and talk to Pilot Vic here.
* The first quest he gives is a short quest to find his keys in the lake next to him.
* The 2nd quest will let you go in a reconnaissance flight with Pilot Vic. After defending your airplane against undead attackers you will eventually have to control it after one of the shot hits Pilot Vic. Go back to the Lakeslide Landing and …
* Enjoy your flying mount !

So basically you're stealing the mount of a dead guy...

So does that mean that we cannot use our current flying mounts in Northrend after completing the quest, or did I read that wrong?

I haven't bought my epic flight yet, and if I am not going to be able to use the epic mount in NR, then I will probably just not pick it up until later if needed.

Edit*

I think I read it wrong originally. You get a new skill "Cold Weather Flying," so I assume that means we can use what we have already we just need a new skill level :)

No freaking way!

I am so hoping there is a Faction grind the Non-DK's can do to get one, because personally the DK doesn't sound all that exciting.

If DKs get a skeletal gryphon, warlocks need a flying flaming horse.

I completely understand why flying mounts won't be allowed in the early levels of WotLK. But, I have to say it's really going to suck. For anyone that's had flight (and especially epic flight) for a long time, it's just second nature to fly in and out of just about everything you do in Outland. Getting you first mount at 40 (30) was a change, but not as big a change as being able to fly. It's going to take some major adjustment and getting to 77 won't happen fast enough.

While we are at it, my paladin would like a Golden-Plated attack Gryphon.

Broomsticks for the Females would be ok (i.e Witches and not the lame Harry Potter crap), but I'd rather see my Male Mage standing on a Turbulent Cloud of Mystic power.....ahh to dream.

(This was not intended as a Female bashing comment, so don't take it that way)

FTFY. Help! It's the Dire Bear bunch!

Also, I'd like a Milennium Falcon mount. They already got spaceships and aliens and Indiana Jones, why not Han Solo too?
