Posted here in Noctis Leonhart's Guide to Botany it says "Gathering: Decreases the gathering remainder while logging.".
What exactly does that mean? Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I've no idea what is meant by "decreases the gathering remainder".

When gathering you get a remainder bar which is kind of like durability. When you select the position you want to chop, and do not hit the correct spot the remainder bar will decrease. Once the bar is completely empty your attempt has failed. However, you will have multiple tries on a node whether or not you fail or succeed.
Also when you’re gathering, your remainder bar will become empty if your attempt was successful. You will know by the sound made if you’re successful. You will receive the loot and it will move to your next attempt to collect more if there are any attempts left.
This is the same for all Gathering Classes.
