Future bots of FFXIV?Follow

I hope Square-Enix takes time to ensure that the fishing class does not become what it was in FFXI. For those who do not know, 90% of all people fishing in FFXI were people running programs. When you have to compete with programs that fish for you, it makes the skill no fun at all.

I'm hoping that whatever system they come up with for fishing with be complex enough that it will be a while or just plain to difficult to make effective bots.

Though I'm sure at some point there will be bots, just hopefully they aren't wide spread or effective to mean anything.

I have to agree. This was a really big problem in FFXI and I also hope that they will address this problem. It was pretty lame that you had to compete with these bots.

I agree that in the beginning fishing bots were a problem, but after SE changed the fishing system ~3 years ago (or whenever it was) things got much better, also all the efforts placed with GM going around auditing fishermen, it was working pretty good I think. Anyways I hope the fishing system is at least as interesting as lately in FFXI.

SE screwed the honest fishermen a hundred times over with the new fishing system. I fully agree that there needed to be something done about the bot fishing but SE made a huge mistake with the new fishing system; your fishing level meant sh*t it had no longer any importance. Everyone with the money to buy a Lu-Shang and some reflexes could reel in the high level fish. Me and a lot more fishermen spend years leveling fishing to a point you could finally reel in those high level fish. And then all of the sudden that was all for nothing with the introduction of the new fishing system. And also the whole fishing system didn't do what it was meant to do, stop bot fishing. It took the programmers only a couple weeks to come up with an easy to install and use bot that was fully compatible with the new fishing system. Actually the new system gave the bot fisher a even bigger advantage over the honest fishermen as a bot is much faster and efficient at draining the stamina of a fish. With a bot reflexes don't play a role and even a very low level fisherman was able to catch anything and everything except for a couple legendaries.

I really hope that SE learned that they need to solve the problem by the source (bots)and not try to fix the consequences (fish flood) of bot fishing that only hurts the honest fishermen like it happened so many times with FFXI. If SE battled the bots instead of the result of bot fishing there wouldn't be a need for a fatigue system in the fist place.

I too hope that Square will take a more agressive stance from the getgo on bots instead of letting it run rampant for years before changing it. With that said though I hope the fishing system is a fair sight better/more fun than the one they put in place.. Was rather frustrating I was unable to pull in fish lower or not much higher than my skill just because of lag and what not since I didn't get on the lushangs train earlier on when it was easier to get it. /rant

I could not agree more. I hope SE learned their lesson and not punishing everyone to fix the issue. At the same time they should come up with a way to have exclusive recipes for Culinary Jobs that require Fishing and by learning that recipe you have the ability to catch an exclusive fish that can ONLY be used by the Chef. Just a thought. If there is a way to make money someone will do it.

It will have to be a pretty complex bot to fish in FFXIV. Visual clues are used to catch fish now.

After getting fishing to rank 10 in the beta, the fishing almost reminds me of three mini-games put into one.

From what I could see in game in beta there wouldn't be any difficulty in someone writing a bot for fishing. Hacking FFXIV on the other hand is (from all accounts) a large project and one which I hope keeps the game free of such exploits for a very long time.

bots are anything from simply using a mouse or keyboard with programmable buttons to make some task easier to using a scripting language to automate key/nouse commands for more complex tasks. I will openly admit i used a programmable device to make it possible to properly switch class from fisher to pugilist because the in game macro system just didn't cut it for me. I expect the in game stuff will work better on release though so fingers crossed.

Hacking on the other hand is where the hacker uses tools that inspect, intercept and change the normal operation of the game code. They might do this within the client memory space or the data stream sent to and from the client.

Lol, JP BBS had a fishbot up today. Yah, clearly it's real difficult.

My friend found a fish bot this week. I came to check it out. The bot missed a lot of the fish. It always pulls to the left. Sometimes it gets lucky and just as often or more, it loses the fish. Being that it is a bot, fishing 24/7, it has still managed to get into the high 30s fishing rank. It was using a Willow fishing rod in grade 3 with 66/99 minnows stacked as bait.

We both reported him. You have to report through SE's website; no in-game functionality to call a GM.
