I agree that in the beginning fishing bots were a problem, but after SE changed the fishing system ~3 years ago (or whenever it was) things got much better, also all the efforts placed with GM going around auditing fishermen, it was working pretty good I think. Anyways I hope the fishing system is at least as interesting as lately in FFXI.
SE screwed the honest fishermen a hundred times over with the new fishing system. I fully agree that there needed to be something done about the bot fishing but SE made a huge mistake with the new fishing system; your fishing level meant sh*t it had no longer any importance. Everyone with the money to buy a Lu-Shang and some reflexes could reel in the high level fish. Me and a lot more fishermen spend years leveling fishing to a point you could finally reel in those high level fish. And then all of the sudden that was all for nothing with the introduction of the new fishing system. And also the whole fishing system didn't do what it was meant to do, stop bot fishing. It took the programmers only a couple weeks to come up with an easy to install and use bot that was fully compatible with the new fishing system. Actually the new system gave the bot fisher a even bigger advantage over the honest fishermen as a bot is much faster and efficient at draining the stamina of a fish. With a bot reflexes don't play a role and even a very low level fisherman was able to catch anything and everything except for a couple legendaries.
I really hope that SE learned that they need to solve the problem by the source (bots)and not try to fix the consequences (fish flood) of bot fishing that only hurts the honest fishermen like it happened so many times with FFXI. If SE battled the bots instead of the result of bot fishing there wouldn't be a need for a fatigue system in the fist place.
