1v1 people above the GM road in AB

wait wut

Nah I cant say I have hardcore strategies, so much is situational. In AB as Horde I like to hold LM/BS/Farm its just the most obvious tight triangle with easiest accessibility to any attack. Have a few roamers and a few defenders on each flag you can easily dominate this way.

But having an idea how many people are attacking then sending the right amount of people to defend is how you hold. To cap a base you need enough people to overwhelm and slaughter defenders so fast that on average they wont respawn in time. If they do respawn you should slaughter them equally fast and get the cap. So if theres 3 defenders and you want to take that flag with a high probability of success, send 6 attackers.

Say its Battle for Gilneas, you're Horde. You obviously take Mine, and both teams rush Waterworks. You get to Waterworks. Whats going on, most of the time its about a 6v6 or so if both teams rushed it. You can tell alot about what the enemy is attacking by how many are at a current flag. If we win that fight at WW I can preemptively tell the enemy will make a second push on Mine so I'm already riding back that way.

If we get to WW first and slaughter the enemy, say 6 of us kill 3 alliance, I know for sure the other 5-7 went Mine. Its noticing these little things and fighting in the right places that wins battlegrounds..just takes practice I guess.

Strand of the Ancients Strategy Guide:

Offense:
Declare which way you want to go ahead of time, blue or green. Sometimes it's actually best to wait and call out which side they stacked on. Proceed to get into sieges CC allies and get the sieges together on the gate chosen. Dispel sieges and continue to CC until relic has been taken. If sieges die, cap a graveyard and continue to run with sieges together until relic has been taken.

Do not fight on the beach. Do not continuously kill the opposite faction without supporting sieges.

Defense:
CC sieges. Call out where they are planning on attacking. If there are 2 mages in the group make 1 go by each dock and ring of frost the dock for some easy CC on players and the siege. Continue to CC sieges and take them out slowly. If sieges have been controlled properly then you will win.

Do not fight on beach. Do not continuously kill the opposite faction without putting CC on the sieges.

As often as not, I find myself on the side that hasn't been called ahead of time. As often as not, I then find myself going through yellow first, having come up the other side where all the enemy aren't either. It's lonely, but effective.

Cap both graveyards, in case sieges die. I mostly rogue, so when I'm on the side that has been called I usually have that gy while the defenders are reacting to the gate being down. Then I get the other one and as often as not I get to yellow first on the 'wrong' side again. And of course I never take the southern graveyard...

Oh make them stop... "All to beach! Get behind attacker! Defend by positioning attacker between yourself and the thing you're defending! Chase them uphill never quite catching up because it took a moment to mount and they move at the same speed as you and there are attackers holding you back! Scream 'all to yellow!' as they destroy purple in seconds! Yell 'fall back you nabs!' as they plough through yellow! Blame poor gear and afkers as you lose!"

There's plenty of war, but very little craft. I get threatened with afk reports for not going to the beach - I sit in the middle of the bridge and then defend the gy on the first side that goes down, in case someone's doing what I do on the attack.

What do you make of the guns? I occasionally find myself on one at yellow, but I've given up trying to convince people to use the massive shield to do substantial aoe dps without ever running out of mana etc. I think it's an ego thing, but I haven't crunched any numbers. The lower guns can be useful too, if only in distracting some of the attackers range. All the demos must pass the middle guns, but they're rarely used when the gates are down.

The guns are worthless now, they don't do enough damage and have no slow effect. Also never cap the one GY that is far from more vehicles.

Guns aren't worthless. Does 30k damage to tanks and about 15k to players. When they bulk up you do a **** load of damage.

Also, while you’re shooting a cannon, you can’t be crowd controlled, and you’re just a hop away from the teleporter to the next level.

Manning cannons on Strand of the Ancients weekend is a great way for new 85s to pile up honor despite lackluster gear.
