The first PvP season of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is underway! Players are now able to compete in level-85 Rated Arenas for top gear, items, and titles -- and for the first time ever, they can enter level-85 Rated Battlegrounds to fight for the same rewards available through Arenas, along with the original World of Warcraft PvP titles. Players can also participate in unranked War Games, skirmishes that allow Battleground and Arena teams to hone their skills against opponents of their choosing -- even if they're in the same faction. So prepare yourselves, aspiring Grand Marshals and High Warlords, as the struggle between the Horde and the Alliance is about to get bloodier.

Really? A week after launch? I'm not even 85 yet. Wah.

Yeap.

I am going to do some with my rogue as soon as I get back.

I won't be gearing properly for a while though and am in the process of leveling my priest to 85 as well...

I don't think you are missing out on too much though so don't worry ^^

Woops, sorry, I was so busy whining I forgot to add the link: http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/143472/pvp-season-9-information

It also has all the information about what gear is available for which kinds of points, and their point costs. The costs seem to be roughly the same as the Wrathful stuff was, so no surprises there.

Weapons are available for conquest points only. Everything else has a lower tier that can be purchased with honor.

A significant difference between this and Wrath's model is that you only get CP from winning arena matches or rated bg's. No more /dancing through 10 matches and still getting points.

I'm curious about people's plans. Are you going to get some resilience via honor gear first, then start doing arena/rated bg's, or are you just going to jump right into the majors straight off?

Hit 85 already teacake. There is just SO MUCH to do i'm overwhelmed by it all. Crafting, or making money (that's right, buy my metagems you sexy bastards) or rep to get epics or howl and weep your way through heroics. Not sure i can handle pvp on top of all that. I haven't even seen uldum or hyjal yet cause my paladin went vash > deepholm > twilight highlands.

I'm gonna go holy pvp, prot pve this expansion i think. I'll probably flip between ret and holy as the fancy takes me, or should i dig up zin'rokh etc. Then again, all my alts look amazing fun for pvp so i'll end up suffering from fatal alt-itis for at least season 9. I spent about 13k gold buying all the dragonmaw blacksmithing plans so i'm set as far as starter gear goes (unless they fix honor gains at the moment, it will take you about 2-3 days of farming to get each 1650 piece so the crafted gear is a great starting point while BGing).

What does worry me is that my guild have no plans for a rated BG team, i'll have to prod them into that some more. There's no reason not to jump into arena though and get enough wins to cap your conquest points every week, i think the higher your rating the more you can get per week.

Stop stressing me out! It's Christmas! That's like a full time freaking job around here! I've already cut my cookie output down to only 40 dozen this year. There's only so much a girl can do.

My guild is putting one together, and I have a lot of faith in the leader, so I'm really looking forward to that.

I think I'm simply going to continue trolling warriors by comparing Throwdown to Cheap Shot and saying it's OP, while not doing any PvP myself.

I blame Bloodline Champions.

God, I can't bring myself to care about serious PvP right now. Too much other crap going on. Smiley: frown

Hockey to watch, lacrosse to play, books to read, websites to design...

And my birthday to celebrate today (technically, since it's already the 16th).

No minimum gear score? Scrub.

I'd link an achievement, if there was a 1k one.

Happy birthday, Theo.

There should be, tbh. Not that 1K is an actual 'achievement', but if there's 'chieves for level 10 through 60, why not 1K arena rating?

Indeed. Everyone combines my birthday and Christmas.

Not that I'm complaining, since I usually get a huge pile of gifts on the 16th and nothing on the 25th.

I'm really impatient. Smiley: grin

Same here. At the moment I just cant take it seriously. Probably just do BGs when I logon. I'm still not even 85 yet bah.

Kinda related to the whole birthday thing, my birthday was awesome and sucked.

Awesome: got $100 iTunes card (I read a lot of books and have an iPad), also got $150 Under Armour gift card (I have so much Under Armour it's actually ridiculous).

Suck: someone broke the passenger side rear window of my car. Didn't take the iPod, GPS, or computer in the back, or the $300 lacrosse sticks, just broke the @#%^ing window and jammed something in the lock in the driver-side door.

So yeah. I guess it was good that I got my car broken into today of all days so it sorta balances it out? Smiley: confused

Edit: oh, and more suck; I didn't go out drinking because I've had sort of a simmering rage all day where I know as soon as I got a few shots and a couple beers in me I'd be punching the first douche bag I saw and probably spending the night in jail.

Happy birthday Theo.

Good and bad, karma eh?

I did some 2v2 and 3v3.

The 2v2 didn't go so well... disc/muti

The 3v3 on the other hand was promising! We went 6-1 losing to a tri-dps team. We were slow to react and lost our healer.

I will hopefully be doing some more with a different mage tonight.

Gearing will take some time though as I am fairly busy.

To be honest, I think mutilate is pretty much dead in PvP now that it doesn't have prep. You need to play much more conservatively than a Sub player would, since you don't have additional cooldowns.

That's just my opinion, though, and I've loved Sub since ShS got put into the game.

Sub just doesn't have the damage running for it... Might have to give it a chance soon though.

We tried 3 mages tonight. 2 frost and 1 fire. We stopped at 1507 rating. We also faced some teams with a clear gear advantage over us, gearing will not be fun...

Overall I am enjoying 3v3 and look forward to getting some decent gear and pushing the ratings up.

Currently the gear is just not there yet...

Damage isn't there?

You should be able to set up a burst where you can basically dump a ridiculous amount of damage on someone during a CC chain on their partner. The rest of the time you're just staying alive.

I mean forgive me for being skeptical, but I was mauling people inside of a ShD. 15k Ambushes with my crap green dagger with a 5 sec garrote was ridiculous.

Of course you need ~10% haste and have Recuperate going in order for you to put out enough abilities, but that's pretty easy.

I am currently away from home. I have my graduation ceremony on Monday! I shall become Master Devz! :)
