After much though and deliberation, we have decided to remove the 25 v 25 bracket from rated battlegrounds. We felt that overall, it created too many logistical issues for players and that in the long run, most players would just skip that week in the rotation.
source.

I'm still not sure why they're "rotating" different brackets. Seems like a silly complication without value. Just keeping honor bonuses by BG weekend would serve the same purpose without the extra work, no?

Good decision, 25 good players were going to be tough to find.

I agree though, I don't know why they're making rated BGs rotating. Seems pretty silly. Should be brackets similar to arena.

Guess it depends on what we call "good players".

I'm more worried about having excellent duelists (or the expectation that you have to be a 1v1 god) than I'm concerned about people following strategy and protecting their healers. BGs aren't arenas, the goals are not the same. I'm expecting successful pre-made BG groups will be far more focused on goal strategy rather than kill-rates by necessity.

But, yeah, 25 people for any PvP would be pretty tricky especially when the other weeks are half that (average) requirement. Any PvP group set up like a raid (standard times, standard rosters, etc) would have annoying attendance issues.

Groups can put together 25 solid people for PvE content - why not for PvP content? I personally would have enjoyed 25 man rated battlegrounds.

How many 25 man groups do you know that killed hard mode LK?

Now, how many 10 man groups do you know that killed hard mode LK?

Now, how many 25 man groups do you know that are relived to be downscaling to 10 man for Cataclysm?

:)

I like this change, was planning on skipping the 25 man bg weeks...

It's definitely more difficult to wrangle 25 reliable people together than 10. But the real kink for PvP groups is that you only would have needed to get that many together once every third week. Attendance is tough enough for raid groups that need the same number of players consistently. Imagine if the roster changed every week!

With 10 & 15, a stable, regularly scheduled group of 12-ish would work very well for both. Extra bonus if the 12 are guilded (guild XP requires 8 or 12 respectively in the BG pre-made for guild XP).

Hmm.... wonder if I could get 12 guildies to commit to a weekly "PvP raid night"....

Good. Like pretty much everyone else, I thought 25 was too many.

The numbers are still weird. You'd need 30 people to have full groups each week with nobody getting benched. With my guild we'll be lucky to fill the 10 consistently though, so I'm not worried about it.

This is one of the reasons that while I think rated BGs will be popular, until Blizzard changes how teams are formed, it won't beat out arena for serious PvP competition.

I've already got my teams pretty much set (rogue/disc, rogue/feral, maybe rogue/boomkin or rogue/resto, rogue/feral/disc) for arena at 85, meanwhile it doesn't matter too much about my rated BG teams (though I've started to recruit for them) since you can't actually form a set team.

Honestly, I think since I'll be participating in rated BGs, but nowhere to the extent that I'll be doing arena.
