So far, did a class stand out in Beta for PVP? From reading the Warlocks, Priests and Shamans are looking good. Can anyone confirm from tests in Beta?

I'm going to guess it will end up being, mages that will start off OP and take a while to fix. I would go pally but that is sooo early WotLK.

Some one should make a poll.

I think it's too early to tell. They just now started balancing the numbers, so until that's completed we won't know for sure.

And there's still the possibility of the 3.0 Ret Pally fiasco happening.

I remember at the moment every ret pally was massive QQ about how bliz was destroying ret paladins and I was warning that this was making them OP for PvP. But I guess the majority were the voice of reason and I was the lone QQ'er (who at the time played mainly Paladin).

Seriously, most of the things I say I think are OP are things that I've been abusing in game. If you want to call it efficient use of game features fine, I'll continue making efficient use of game features.

As for Cata FOTM, my expectation at the moment is on rated BG teams composed in 70%+ of rogues+druids and 30% or less of the rest of the classes. Not because either Rogue or Druid will be the OP but because strategies based on them will be.... efficient use of game features.

Thus far ShD rogues look very powerful, as do Mutilate as long as you don't snare/root them. 20% extra damage for 36 secs with Vendetta is a lot.

Shadowstep allows you to teleport to the cannons in Strand of the Ancients, from there you stealth and sneak past gates you haven't destroyed and cap the graveyards [as soon as a gate breaks and before the defending team has a chance to retake positions]. Efficient use of game features for rated Strand of the Ancients.

You can't cap a graveyard in SotA until at least one of the gates below it falls. Subtlety rogues can shadowstep past the gate and lurk right by the graveyard flag so they can cap it right when a gate falls, but that's a different kettle of fish.

Feral druids are getting some obscene buffs, and i'd say they are already a formidable pvp class (just very difficult to master). They have some (specifically arena) survivability issues, but they're a supreme duelling and BG spec.

edit: Just thought i'd detail a few of the changes. Rouges are losing heightened senses. Currently a rogue will always get the opener on a feral, not so much in cataclysm (sap has a larger range than pounce of course, so it's still a little easier for the rogue's spam macro to connect first). Ferals new talented interrupt is absolutely monstrous. 13 yard range so it's yet another gap closer. 10 second cooldown and sucessful interrupts cause the caster to have a 30% increased mana cost on their spells for 10 seconds.

Feral ambush (ravage) is hugely buffed in damage and feral charge: cat will allow it's use out of stealth for 6 seconds. Feral shadowdance!

My druid dinged recently, so i'm practicing feral atm in BGs!

Every passive increase to stealth or stealth detection has been removed. It's yet to be determined what's the detection range going to be. If it's equal or less to 10yd frontal cone of fire you're going to be sapped before you can unstealth a rogue.

Is Warrior new ability "Gushing Wounds" means for rogue to get back into stealth and have to stand still for 9 seconds...Looks like Rogues will have their hands full with Warriors in Cata?

Also Heroic leap + Gushing wounds = Dead Hunter, it will be harder to kite Mr. Warrior.

I'd bet on warriors - the arms tree looks godly at the moment - but they're still too gear dependent for early dominance.

Warriors has always performed well in PVP, gushing wounds was too good to be truth.

In Wotlk they weren't, they were strong against rogues and sometimes against hunters. They're the hardest class to play.

In Cata Whirlwind damage has been reduced to 50%, I think this means the damage of Bladestorm is also reduced to 50%. If that's the case bladestorm pretty much becomes just an extra Escape Artist button.
/cast bladestorm
/cancelaura bladestorm

I'm not saying warriors will be weak or that bladestorm will be useless, but if bladestorm damage is reduced 50% then the only way in which it will be useful is as a snare remover.

What I'd like to see is stance restriction being removed from pummel or arms working in Zerker stance again just like in TBC. Really, the reason why battle stance wasn't used until wotlk was because you couldn't use pummel, and the reason why arms warriors use battle stance now isn't because they like it, it's just that you're forced to use it because your rotation is dependent on rend-overpower. Nobody wanted to be in battle stance and the reason was pummel.

And I don't think Arms looks very good right now, It looks more like Prot will be the PvP spec.

I would have liked to just have a bleed that refreshes it's duration if the target moves. It doesn't need to do more damage than rend, just refreshing duration would have been good enough.

PTR notes on mmo-champion say pummel will be usable on battle stance now.

If you have played warriors and hated the stance dancing, that single change will be a big relief on that. There's still things that need improvement but it looks like this time around warriors are getting much better class design.

I don't know much about other classes but I think Hunters should be able to do decent. Though with the recent change to Bestial Wrath and some spells being reduced they might not perform as well. Their survivability is still pretty bad except for Mirror Blades deep into the SV tree. Camo will be ok for a bit but we'll see how that works out.

Hunters have generally only been average as BM; the best are usually MM.

Mirrored Blades, while nice, doesn't make it a requirement in PvP. Deterrence is pretty **** awesome already.

True, but BM pvp just got a lot worse. With the nerf to Bestial Wrath they are no longer CC immune so once you see a hunter go red you just stun/fear/poly and wait the now 10 seconds Bestial Wrath lasts.

MM was good with silencing shot and some hard hitting damage with aimed and chimera, but now with aimed having a 3 second cast it won't be used as much. Chimera provides a bit of heals though which could be nice.

Silencing shot is really the key IMO, it's pretty much the only reason to spec into MM after pets got disarming effects (and it was taken off Chimera Shot).

SV looks good too, though.

Yeah I can see SV being a really good pvp spec.

1. Some survivability with stam bonus.
2. Lowering defensive cooldowns like disengage and feign death.
3. 100% LnL procs on frost and freezing trap.
4. Mirror Blades

While most of that has always been in the survival tree it just looks a lot more appealing now. There will probably be a good combo with shadowmeld + camo for NE's too.

Resistance is Futile will be good in the MM tree depending on if there is any internal cooldown and how it actually works. I wish I knew a bit more about that talent.
