Did some poking around in Warhammer Online and I've come to the conclusion that making resurrection spells a 3-second cast and usable in combat would do great things to Battlegrounds. Terrible, yes... but great.

I think I'd make it 5 seconds, but I agree it could make things really fun. A reduction to healing-health ratios, increase in mana costs and ability to raise (with skill and stategy) sounds fun.

Especially since it could actually make dps idiots care about protecting healers. They might not care about nonstop heals, but the idea of never taking a trip to the graveyard might ring differently.

It would also make insignia stealing worthwhile. Currently I only do it if I'm bored and low on cash. 22s from a dead Rogue, booyah!

Balancing all those gains is the loss of Inner Will.

No, not quite. You're thinking WOTLK healing. Obviously, if you get CC'd for 6 seconds instead of 4 right now, your partner is dead and it's game over. In Cataclysm, he'll drop from 70% to 50% hp.

EVERY class lost their cc reduction talents. It's not just Priests.

Every class that had one. Not all did, and few were as conveniently placed or as powerful as Inner Will. Overall, a loss for Priests.

In fact you can ress people in BGs, just not during combat. It's just people release so quickly, and it costs so much mana, and they get rezzed at low hp, no mana, unbuffed and with no pet.

You'll probably still see it being used in rated bgs. There's moments when it's worth ressing someone.

Some classes really don't have much to do in the way of defending a healer other than dpsing the guy that attacks the healer. Mages for example could sheep but if the target has a DoT then all they can do is pew pew and hopefully kill the enemy before the enemy kills the healer.

Mages might not be optimal for defending a healer but they do have a whole slew of snares and roots as well as talented silence and stun. Also a glyph which, although it doesn't get much use, removes DoTs on poly targets. Not to mention mages are a tasty distraction for a lot of classes!

I don't think rated BGs or the possibility of a res will have much of an influence on these so-called "idiot dps". If winning the BG isn't enough motivation to protect your healers, I don't think anything is.

I think you are right that the ability to get a res won't help, but I think rated battlegrounds will give us better players on average. Especially if they don't implement bg scrimages.

Since players will now have an incentive to enter BGs with a coordinated group, they might learn skills that they will carry back to pick-up matches. Of course, there are still going to be all the baddies that don't ever bother doing rated BGs.

Then again, there's also the possibility that the people doing rated BGs never bother queuing for regular ones anymore, so we will also lose good players from the queue.
