AB fence jumping is backFollow

#1 Sep 10 2010 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
So it seems that the Allies have figured out how to jump their fence again and it's turning into a major pain as battles are starting with them having capped 2-4 flags depending on how many of them know the trick (I keep waiting for enough of them to jump the fence to start the game with a five cap).

Don't know if this is race/class specific but the most recent one who pulled it off this afternoon was a gnome warrior prot/fury spec with no professions (well, herbalism 4 and no secondary but I doubt that combo helped) - not sure if it's appropriate to post his name so wont for now.

Any clue if it was even worth our time reporting him?

That sounds more like RMT with a position hack than anything to me, though I can't imagine what they'd gain from BGs (honor for epic gems? there's got to be faster ways).

Easy to do it in EotS (though I don't think you can cap anything 'til the start of the match), and I assume that it's possible the same sort of way in AB.

Not gonna tell how you do it, though.

The EotS one is harmless because if you jump down you get teleported back into the bubble. Never seen anybody be able to go down yet.

The AB one on the other hand, that is a pain because you start handicapped. I really hope they fix it in time for rated bgs, otherwise there will be a lot of QQing I tell you!

It's worth your time to report them. I got the usual canned responses to most of mine, but got one that basically said that the matter is being looked into as they have not been able to determine all of the ways people are jumping the gate; but they are taking the matter seriously. It also said to make sure I report whenever I see it happen. At least that was the non-canned answer I got.

Also, I've been on Alliance and seen Horde do it on my battlegroup, as well as seeing Alliance do it when I'm on my horde characters. It's not just available to one faction. I've reported when it was the other team, and I also reported when it was my own faction.

I'm fairly certain they could fix the Arathi Basin fence exploit by either making a 100-yard invisible wall, or by implementing the teleportation thing from Eye of the Storm.

I've yet to ever see a horde player do it.

As for fixing the bug - simple fix - make the entire field a GM which auto-bans you for three days if you clear the fence sooner then three seconds before the game starts (that way laggy players don't accidentally get nuked) - problem solved.

They should install programming like that for a variety of behaviors - would clean up BG AFKers in a heartbeat as well.

They would never suspend a player for something as innocent as getting onto the field early or AFKing.

Jesus, grow up and use the in-game methods for dealing with them.

I wouldn't exactly call using exploits to gain an unfair advantage 'innocent', but hey what do I know. Seems to me like a major gamebreaker that should be punishable with a temporary suspension. Would hate to think what would happen if this wasn't fixed in time for rated battlegrounds...

They should probably at least temp ban and issue a warning to people exploiting such things multiple times.

The simple solution is to implement the teleportation method that they have at EOTS which makes the annoying bubble obsolete and unnecessary.

And what you should do when people assault nodes is issue a ticket and include the names of people who assaulted the nodes before the battle started. You'll get a note saying thank you for helping to protect the game from players doing illegal actions and saying that they cannot tell you what actions they will take against the player.

When issuing a ticket about an exploit make sure your description is very precise, say something like "has captured the node before the battle had started" instead of saying "is using some exploit to gain unfair advantage".

Personally, I find this exploit to be unfair but I have yet to see a team that does that actually win. For whatever reason the times I have seen alliance use that exploit I have not seen them win.

It's actually not. It's abusing terrain bugs (like wall hopping a few years back in TBC), but it's not a hack.

It's an exploit - how would you like it if your arena team started losing matches due to other teams using an exploit to get an advantage on you?

As for in-game methods - lol - what am I gonna do, kill 'em - it's a BG, that's supposed to happen. Sure, the team could try to focus on stalking and corpse camping the guy but personally, I'm always quite thrilled and happy when I manage to force the opposing team to devote multiple players to taking down my BG toon - if five players have decided that their mission in life is to keep me at the GY then that gives my team a better chance of winning - so retaliating like that is a reward, not a punishment.

Probably because the opposing team gets pissed off and fights harder - I know we won the fight that inspired this post but I honestly can't recall the results from previous instances.

We usually win the Battlegrounds where someone decides to cheat. In a normal AB, the chat would be something like "Call inc and ignore Stables, dammit" some 10 minutes into play. If someone is cheating, the chat is more like "Ok, report that *** and let's go cap some flags" followed by a dozen "Hell yeah" and 15 minutes of faceraping Alliance for being cheating scumbags.

I still report the guy, despite him actively helping us win the game, because exploiting is bad. Smiley: schooled

Or you could make a GM call and get then at the very least suspended? Wow, what a nice feature to put in the game, a GM call.

Also, I've lost arena matches from exploits. Back when you could talk in say in arena, people would link warglaives to people from other servers and it would cause WoW to critical fail, making you lose the match.

Who hasn't been feared through a pillar and fallen under the world at least once? Not a cheat, I suppose, but you're still cheated.

Yeah, that sucks really hard. I got feared through the wall of Nagrand in a game at 1860 in 5s.

We lost. Smiley: frown

But was the fear a case of someone setting up to deliberately do it - ie/standing near that area so that they could fear you through when you got close - or simply happened in the heat of the fight?

Accidents are quite different from exploits.

Someone is always going to cheat. I remember when a Horde Shaman sat on top of Stables where nobody could reach him. You fix one problem and somebody will find another and exploit it.
