Over the weaekend I started doing pvp to level an alt. It was arathi basin weekend and I was getting pretty good XP for a win. Arathi weekend is ovr I just won and arathi game but didn't get any XP. Is the XP only for the weekend bg? I guess I should go back to questing for now.

BGs give XP for achieving the goal required to win. In WSG, you get XP when you cap a flag. In AB, you get XP every 160 points (140 on Call to Arms weekend, and I think if it's your random). You then get some small amount of XP when it ends.
For example, at level 69 in AB, I was getting 3k XP every 140 points because it was AB weekend. For winning, I also got two extra ticks of 3k, and then the Call to Arms bonus of 90k. If it were not the Call to Arms weekend, I would have only gotten the normal 3k ticks.
You still get XP in BGs, you just don't get any real bonus for winning.

You might have missed it in the honor spam or the thing might have bugged and not awarded your XP - I know that the BGs were acting a little flaky over the past week with food sometimes not giving a buff and some spells not working either.
