I went to work today! Just got home, installing game (Amazon was not late, like they were with MoP). If I get to play at all tonight, cool. If not, there is Friday-Sunday (hopefully).
I hear people have already hit 100, and it only takes about 12hours. That is cool, as I never did decide on a main, so I have 5 to get to 100 from 90. I'm super OK with the "short" 10 levels, as I read people are ******** about it being to short...or long *** Qs... ***** ***** ***** ***** **** google's filter.

I played last night @ launch through the beginning phase. When I hit the first zone the tree boss held me up for a while then the 3-4 min lag killed the rest and I went to bed at around 2 am. I woke up at 8am to get ready for class and logged in had about an 80 queue before getting in, started all my characters with rested Xp.

Got home from class at around 3, tried to log on to a 6000+ queue, estimated time 700 minutes. Decided to clean the house, make supper, only to be disconnected while in queue about 4 times.

As of 8:25 pm PST Im sitting in a 1700 queue (Estimated 70 mins). I figure I should be able to get on later tonight maybe at around midnight, if im lucky. I'm going to be setting up a looping macro on my keyboard to keep me logged in this weekend.

Played some tonight.

Moon Guard had a queue of 4,300 so I said "uh, no, I'll do my Horde characters on The Scryers instead"

Well, it had 127 queue (first time I have EVER seen a queue on Scryers), but I waited it out.

Experience was OK for awhile, the occasional quest that took 30+ seconds to acknowledge I turned it in, UNTIL I got to the part where you do the whole Bladespire Citadel thing, and return to Durotan's home and defend it.

Right after that.......

No NPCs would spawn.
Everything I attempted to loot said it was "busy".
Garrison Hearthstone did not work.
Went to my garrison manually (without taxis, because no NPCs would spawn)

All the way there I got attacked by mobs that I killed and got XP for. I could mine mining nodes and get mining levels, but I could not loot anything at all.

Got to my garrison, and saw 100+ people sitting in the garrison (didn't get my phased version of it).

Got rested status, attempted to log out...... nothing. Clicked exit game.....nothing.

Had to CAD to get out of the game.

Figured I'd try it again after they get the stuff working, lol.

Yep there was some major problems last night. I am on Dalaran and for the 1st time in a few years we had a que. It is kind of crazy considering it has been a low to med pop server for a while. There was a lot of bugs with quests and even people getting stuck on flight master taxis. Then started getting server lag around 930 est. Eventually my main in draenor got booted and i couldnt log back in with him, it said world server down. As i was able to log into other toons that were in pandaria, people reported being booted to the shrine. Then the entire server got locked and i couldnt get into any other servers i use. So had to stop a little after 10.

Before all that happened i was having a lot of fun. Especially the garrisons, were way better than expected. That might be the highlight of this expac so far. I didnt que for the dungeon or any new pvp. The quests were decent and i like also how the professions are working with drops to get you patterns and blah blah. So other than the crashes it has been decent so far.

I had a 3hr Q, and managed to play for 10min. At that point I DCed, and it seemed it was server side. Good times!

Well I did finally get in last night at around 11 pm. Managed to get to 92 and about a half. Had Dcs all night but was lucky enough to get back in while in the grace period. The lag was manageable, sometimes it was bad but overall was ok. I played until server reset, now Im at a 6k que again.

Well, apparently, they were also suffering a DDoS attack on top of the high traffic period of so many people trying to play at once.

I understand they wanna sell the expansion, but when you create huge hype trains like they did, you're going to get millions of people trying to log on as soon as the expansion drops even though nearly everybody knows the experience for the first few days will be downright horrible.

It doesn't matter how prepared Blizz attempts to be, nothing is going to handle millions of simultaneous players trying to play the largest MMO in the west.

It isn't all Blizz's fault, though. There's the DDoS attack (hopefully Blizz's lawyers can do some real damage to those responsible if they can figure out who is responsible for it) and there's the players who try to log on even though they know the experience is going to be terrible but decide to force the issue and then complain about it on the o-boards.

Yes, I logged in on day one, but I logged out when I saw that it wasn't working properly. I didn't sit there hammering the server with login attempts over and over and over again like I'm a spoiled child who needs his fix.

At the end of the day, I can and will just simply play something else until the congestion clears. When I do log on, I will have a much better experience than the people who sat around for hours trying to get on, or dealing with the myriad of problems.

The hype must be working. I'be been playing this game for at least 5 years now, and in the last 2 days my younger brothers have asked me about the game...something both have made fun of me for (paying to) playing.
It is a drag neither of them have a decent PC or laptop to play the game.

It is a good thing my mom decided to quit near the end of MoP -- I don't think her PC could handle WoW today. It was struggling before at ~40 FPS in most places, now it'd probably get what, 30? lol

Probably the roughest launch for an expac to date, without question.

The night of launch I had a 2 hour wait to get in and when I did get in it was too laggy to play. I turned it off and went to bed early. I got on just as servers went live this afternoon. I'm sitting at lvl 96 right now. Story is great, questing is great, garrison is great.

Lag has bounced around, main beef right now is:

A) Phasing is atrocious, I'm having flash backs to Twilight Highlands in Cata. Whether it is lag or not, hard to tell but there are times when I go to click on a question item, move half a step and it disappears. It got really bad in Talador. Quests bugging out as well due to phasing, basically I have to figure out how to cheese it when phasing acts up.

B) Pacing of quests & XP. Tanaan intro moves quickly, SMV is slow as molasses, but overall enjoyable. Gorgrond is a blast and xp ramps up and moves smoothly. Then I get to Talador, the xp is half of what you get in Gorgrond, yet it is a higher level. I was getting 17k-20k xp per quest in Gorgrond, 11-14k in Talador. Made no sense and leveling went super slow, it basically forces you to get out of Talador as soon as you are able.

Kind of hoping they offer free transfer to a lower pop. I paid to get in to the one I'm on now, but... it takes almost 3 hours to log in.

Should I quest each zone fully, or move to the next zone asap?

I usually do 2 levels, and then find the NPC that will send me to the next zone, until cap, and then go back and do all the quest in each zone (for the gold).

It definitely pays to move one and soon as the next zone is available.

That being said I am just putting along, I've completed each zone so far, even Talador. I am one quest turn in from 97, I did use the 25 daily quests to get 46% into 90 on launch day. We had some strong nerds who managed 100 on the first night, they must have planned it out. I am just hoping to hit 100 today and spend today and tomorrow gearing if the servers will allow it.

I'm really enjoying everything so far. Aside from the server hiccups the first couple days, which seem to have been fixed, I'm loving it. I'm in no hurry. I'm at 96.5 right now (lost significant time to server issues and RL over the weekend, but I don't care). Taking it as it comes. I don't want to rush and burn out and miss stuff.

The zones are simply amazing. They are head and shoulders above anything that came before. I have yet to come across an area where I just want to get out of as soon as I can (c.f., Desolace, Tanaris, Silithus, among others). There is detail and depth everywhere. It's great. I love the many little easter egg type things hidden around the world. The art is just fantastic. Stop and look at the trees sometime, for example. They're great.

The questing is really good. It's all still mostly variations on kill X, pick up X, talk to X, but they just seem more well done. There's definitely no shortage of quests to do, in my opinion. I was in SMV well past when I should have been because I was still following out quests.

The garrison is a really cool feature. I'm really enjoying all the activities it opens up. I'm a little concerned with the impacts it will have on professions vis a vis making money, but the garrison itself is really cool so far. I love the addition of the Lumber Mill. It's really cool to wander around and see trees that can be harvested. Makes the world that much more interactive. I hope they develop it more, like as another profession even.

I love the carry-over from Timeless Isle of the mob tagging. It's great not to have to fight to be the first to tag a rare or quest mobs. Bravo.

About the only downside--ymmv--is the difficulty level. There isn't really enough danger or fear of death, in my opinion. My first death in WoD occured at level 96, when I jumped off a ledge thinking I could use the slow-fall trinket thingy. Well, you can't instant cast it...oops...doesn't say that on the item! Guess I wasn't the first one, several guildies chimed in that they had done the same thing. Anyway, back to difficulty. The leveling dungeons are cake. I know they're just leveling dungeons, but they are really easy. I'm sure Blizz was trying to avoid a Cata repeat though. More than once, while exploring, I've run through some areas I shouldn't have that are filled with level 100 baddies, aggro'd a bunch, and made it out alive. Early on (Level 90-92 maybe), it seemed like it was probably just because I was decently geared (556 resto druid), but now that I'm more caught up with iLvl, difficulty still seems a little low. Really, though, it's not a big complaint. The positives far, far outweigh the negatives.

Oh, and I'm really enjoying the little touches that are obvious homages to Burning Crusades. Obviously we're in the same world, sort of, but it is also signficantly different from Outland. But, there are little things all around that just make me remember BC in a good way. It's very cool to make everything new, but incorporate the nostalgia, too.

Overall, at this early stage, I'm giving WoD a very hearty thumbs up! Really loving it.

I think garrison's craft is to combat Gold Sellers. It was being discussed in one of the zones, and peeps were giving good points to it.

I wish I knew how to change one of my buildings... I found it odd a quest had me go through and build a building that is my craft (Enchanting). The building is somewhat useless to me, as I can just DE and do my own chants. Only thing I do not know yet, is if there is (I'm sure there is) another enchanting NPC for the daiy CD stuff (books).

It has also came up that a garden needs to be added, or they need to add a Garden hearth stone, so people still have a reason to go use the garden (but why? them mats are for MoP food...)

Coolest NPC I've found is within my Garrison, so lets assume he is in every Horde one, and that would be Moz'Def (a Troll).

One thing I am not really a huge fan of is the constant Daily Cooldowns for crafting _everywhere_.

Okay, yeah, I get max-level blues and purples should have Daily Cooldowns....

But Hot D*mn, it looks like EVERYTHING requires stinking daily cooldowns. I mean, seriously? What good are crafts if you can't really use them for anything other than endgame? That's what we had back during TBC, Vanilla, and even Wrath had dashes of that too.

I suppose you could use work orders, but eh? Why the limit on how many you can make? Why not just let me make them myself? Oh, I could..... but it takes ridiculous amounts of materials, for example, Hexweave Cloth.

I dinged 100 on rogue last night. There is just to much to do. I completed the first 3 zones for horde. Then did the last few levels running around killing rares and finding treasure. I have killed every almost every sub 100 rare in all leveling zone and have found almost every treasure. I went thru and completed Nagrands story last night also, I HIGHLY suggest it the cutscene is pretty awesome.

I'm hating the crafting daily cooddown bs. I have engineering and jewelcrafting and unless I want to spam green items to possibly level I can only make enough daily CD items to get a +5 skill up every 3-4 days and thats with having max workorders at the respective places.

Also thats another thing. The work order idea is neat but they take WAY to long. My Gf who's a BS said its going to take her a few days to make a blue plate piece by then you would probably have a comparable Heroic piece. It just seems overly inflated and cumbersome. Why require basic items to have 100 of (daily cooldown item) when you can only make like 15 a day?

I was going to type exactly what Azwing wrote, but since he did it already, I don't have to!

If you are in no rush, finish all the quests in every zone before leaving (where possible). I did it with Frostfire ridge, and then started jumping all over the place in other zones as my wanderlust took over. While fun seeing all the new sights, it really messes things up as so many things are tied to quest chains, such as followers and outposts.

And if you thought MoP had "a metric tonne" of stuff to do, WoD has even more. It's like clam stacking, but better!

To change a building, go to the Architect Table. Just drag a building from the list on the left over to the map on the right and place it on the building you want to replace. It will show you the cost and give you a confirm button.

The MoP farm illustrates one of my long-term complaints with WoW: making content irrelevant and obsolete with each new expansion. I know why it's done, but with something like the farm that took so much time and effort, it's a bit frustrating to have it relegated to the dustbin. The garrison will probably be the same in the next expansion.

I'm not 100% sure about the enchanting thing, but I believe if you have the profession and make the building also, you get additional recipes/benefits that someone without the profession won't get. I think that is what I've read.

I resubbed and bought the expansion. I tend to do this from time to time, even while insisting I don't play WoW anymore, because my guild is awesome.

I took the free boost for my undead lock, because it's been a long time since I played WoW and she wasn't even 90 yet.

Then I had to start an Alliance alt because my Horde-side garrison is so ugly, and they get such a pretty one. Smiley: frown
