Hi all!

After taking a very long break I am back. I could not resist the $15 deal and made a new account (my last account was hacked by Chinese gold farmers and got locked down but that's another story)

Anyway, as you can imagine a lot has changed and its pretty overwhelming. I see specializations and talents. Hunters start with a pet now. And undead hunters? Anyway, in a few sentences, what else has changed? I just need a few pointers. Like, where do i go to get the best mods? What are some of the best ones? How isnthr state of pvp these days? I never had time for raiding. What class is flavor of the month? I heard paladins were.

Thanks in advance and I'm on my phone so please excuse any typing errors.

If you want addons, either WoWinterface or Curse.com.

Many, many changes have been made.

MOST Classes are pretty close to each other in PvE; nobody cares what you are as long as you can do your job. There are Guild Levels/Perks, Pet Battles, Glyphs, Inscription (not sure when that was added. Was that Wrath? or Cata?), Archaeology (tidbits of lore and the occasional BoA equipment).

Best thing you can do is go through the natural levelup process until you get to Level 90, if you don't know where to go next, go to Stormwind City or Orgrimmar and look for the Heroes' Call or Warchief's Command boards respectively, they'll usually have quests that tell you where to go next for your level.

You can use the Looking for Dungeon tool to grab a 5man dungeon run now-and-then on the way up, but you should be fine without them. When you ding Level 80, your first few quests in Mt. Hyjal might be a bit rough. This is normal, and it will quickly get better/easier.

Jade Forest (Lv85+) has an item vendor that sells you greens that are probably miles better than what you were wearing, this vendor is located in Dawn's Blossom for both sides, or the Goblin in the Hozen Camp (Horde) and the Alliance counterpart is in the Jinyu Village once you get far enough into the quests.

Not sure what else to say, if you have specific questions, ask away!

What levels are these?

Because my Mage is feeling squishy, but he's only 82 or 83...

My DK doesn't feel squishy at all. But then again, he gets a 20% self heal after killing a mob, plus high self-heals whenever I feel like sacrificing some dps, plus a pet...

The Green items sold in Jade Forest are 372 (not quite as good as the 378s that are awarded by Cataclysm End-Time Heroics).

All you need to do is ride to Dawn's Blossom and look for the vendor there, he sells a full set of gear, weapon included (though you get a 372 weapon out of the first quest when you arrive in Jade Forest). They are Lv85 required.

As far as your Mage, not sure what to tell you. There's a decent weapon from Deepholm if you haven't already done that; that weapon will probably last you until Jade Forest's first quest.

I remember this one addon that showed your health bars on the left and right side of your toon. It was curved. Basically a hud addon. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

There are a bunch of UI addons that do that. Name of one is like "something unit frames" I think?

You can group up with a friend if you are both playing the same faction and if either both of you play on EU servers or both of you play on US servers. You need to be RealID friends or Battletag friends for that. To see your Battletag-name simply press O and you can see it displayed at the top of the window.

Apart from current tier raiding (and I think Arena) everything ingame can be done with a crossrealmgroup.

And let's not forget that anywhere other than Pandaria, there's Cross-Realm Zones, the technology behind which allow Cross-Realm Grouping.

You'll randomly see players from other similar (RP/PvE/PvP/RP-PvP) servers in your areas except for Capital Cities and Pandaria.

Ice HUD and nUI are a couple that do that. nUI is an entire UI in one add on, where as Ice HUD is just the HUD display. I like nUI a lot, but I just wish there was a way to make things bigger. I'm only 30 and I don't need bifocals and I have trouble reading things. Granted I'm playing on a 13 inch laptop screen, so maybe that's why.

That must be what my friend was talking about. Seems like a good solution for low pop servers. I was looking at a server pop list and some of the alliance to horde ratios are crazy. 17k alliance vs 100k horde. Does the cross realm stuff fix this in high pvp areas?

I play strictly on PvE servers.

But I have seen a LOT of complaining on o-boards about CRZ dumping tons of high-level players in low-level zones for gankfests that haven't been that bad since Vanilla.

Lots of Lv60+ flying around in lowbie areas with flying ganking the low level people who don't have flying.

If you're planning on doing a PvP server.... you might want to reconsider unless you're into masochism or don't mind LFDing it all the way up. Otherwise, prepare for World of Gankcraft.

As for CRZ in PvE zones.... yes it does mean higher population, however this is usually a detriment to the player just trying to level: More population means more competition (a common complaint on o-boards as well). More people killing the mobs you need, esp the quests that want you to kill 5 of A, 5 of B and 10 of C where C is the rarest one. Or Named Mob quests.

Or trying to level Mining/Herbalism.

IMO, CRZ does more damage than it fixes, but meh. Whatever. All of my characters are Lv90 now so I don't have to worry about it.

Hopefully CRZ will be gone for good once they connected all the realms they want to connect.

To answer OPs question: They don't even try to fix faction imbalances with CRZ (or Connected Realms for that matter). Not because they hate us but because it is nigh impossible to do so. Most PvP servers have much more Horde than Alliance. On PvE the norm is much more Alliance than Horde. So unless they connect PvE to PvP servers (which ain't gonna happen) there is no way they could ever fix faction imbalances.
And even if they could magically do so, two years later they would most likely have to do it again because of server/faction changes, players quitting, new players starting, all which would tilt the balance on a server to one of two sides.

At least those are the reasons they gave and they sound plausible to me.

Hmm I didn't think about the gankfest....

But yeah, my buddy and I ran into the competition problem last night. There were tons of people leveling in the orc starting area (and I assumed it was from the bundle deal thats going on now). We ran into issues with competing against other players.

But I've always gravitated towards high pop servers so it's nothing new to me.

Something I am seeing now though... is we can now have horde AND alliance on the same server? Guess blizzard decided it doesn't matter?

Yes they lifted those restrictions from PvP servers a while ago. Apart from the 11 characters/server + 50 characters total restrictions that are still in place you can go wild with your alts. ;)

Alrighty, I am about to ding 86. Ive been leveling with a RAF and speed leveling through all of the old content. Shame, because I never really got to experience wotlk and cata, but I'll probably start a DK just for that experience. We just queued up for LFG the whole time and got 3 to 5 levels per run, with the quests.

Now that I am actually grinding my levels in pandaria I am having a blast with the story line. I like how the introduce you to the new content with the cut scenes and for the first time in my WoW career I am actually paying attention to the quest story lines. It's a lot of fun!

I love all the changes they brought in. I didn't think I would care about pet battles but it's surprisingly addictive and fun. Once I hit 90 I plan to go back to old content and try to collect all the pets while leveling my gathering skills.

I love the changes to hunter. The pet system is great. I'm not really sure why they got rid of talent trees. Anyone got anything they can share on this? Why the devs thought it was a good idea? I thought talent trees brought more variety.

Oh and I love dual specialization. There is just a ton of great stuff - too much to mention. But this game is still "new" to me so we will see after the new-ness wears off if I still enjoy it.

This time around, I can see myself wanting to grind for rep and get achievements and all of that grindy type stuff just because it's all part of the game. Right now I'm "rushing" to 90 but as I plan on keeping my hunter as my main I want to really stop and 'smell the roses' after I hit 90. I have fun flying around the old world (now that you can do so) and checking out the scenery. I've found a lot of really cool places.

I may start a druid after this just to play out the old content and see the questlines. Not sure yet :)

In any case, I am glad I am back!

quick note: my old account was hacked by chinese gold farmers awhile back. I don't know how long they had it for but once day I tried logging into battle.net and had to reset my password. Next thing I know I see a resurrection email in chinese. Then I get a notification that my account has been locked down because of suspicious behavior (someone kept trying to access it). Oh, I also got one of those reset password emails that I didn't initiate, so I followed the link to block it. In any case, I have a level 74 dwarf hunter there.

Can we merge accounts? I am curious at whats on that account now and I'd like to see my old toons. In order to get it unlocked I have to send blizzard some proof of identity via snail mail. Kind of a bother, hence why it's still locked down.

edit: ok I found this thread: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7004450512 on combining accounts. So here is what Im thinking.

I have the updated wow license on the new account (my old account only has up to TBC content). I'd like to get a paid toon transfer from my old account to my new account (maybe, not sure on this yet since its a hunter and I already have one. maybe I'll do my shaman). But I want to switch the NEW account email to my old account email since thats my main one anyway, but I don't want to lose any of my new account achievements and account wide stuff since thats stuff Ive been working on for the last week and a half or so. Does that make sense?

so to sum up,

merge both accounts, keep new wow account licensing and account wide unlocks, have it tied to old account email, and transfer old account toons to new account

hmm, maybe I need to talk to billing. I gotta dig up that email from blizzard that tells me how I have to prove my identity.
